Army of One (2020)
Nothing new here.
Boring characters except for our heroine. Really insulting plot. She just stumbles thru the woods and happens upon the bad guys? Not worth the time. Better to watch "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster OR if you really like nasty "revenge porn" go find the "I Spit on Your Grave " (remake).
The Beyond (2017)
Real science fiction.
This film is surprisingly good. Classic science fiction themes - what it is to be human, exploring the unknown. Shot documentary style which drew me into the movie right off the bat. The Beyond is well acted, well directed and very well edited. It's also a beautiful looking film. The special effects are great. A truly suspenseful and intelligent adventure/drama. If you love REAL science fiction - no space battles, laser guns, cgi monsters, silly space explosions - this will appeal to you. It's on NETFLIX right now.
Search (1972)
Great action show with a hook.
The hook was the tech. Tiny cameras, tiny transmitters and dental implants for coded info. A wicked cool "mission control" room. Three known actors in rotation - all with previous film and tv success. Would love to a reboot. Maybe have a more diverse team? How about a team of four? A woman; a young, impulsive guy; a middle-aged, veteran man and.......? They can appear alone or in any combination.
The Tattooed Stranger (1950)
Low budget but pretty good.
A short, low budget production.
Most of the acting was a bit wooden, but the dialog had it's moments. A police procedural much like the first half of a "Law and Order" episode. NO hunches or lucky coincidences, just good old-fashioned police work - both forensics and leg work solves the case. A well-structured chain of evidence leads detectives to their murder suspect.
Watch for brief appearances of a very young Jack Lord as a police lab assistant.
All-in-all a pretty good movie.
Planet of the Apes (2001)
quick review
Looks great! Tim Roth is excellent as the villain of the piece. Newcomer Estella Warren is given little to do but she does display a "star-like" screen presence.
Tim Burton creates an original "re-imagining" of the original story. The plot, however, has a major logical flaw.
SPOILER ALERT>>>>
Our hero, Mark Wahlberg, tells the others he is from Earth. He crashes on some planet and discovers his ship of origin also crashed on the same planet. When playing the computer logs of that ship, we all hear the commander saying they are about to crash on an UNCHARTED planet. We subsequently learn that Wahlberg actually crashed on a future Earth.
Sooooo
How come people FROM Earth didn't realize they were crashing ON Earth?
