Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Masterpiece
Squid Game perfectly illustrates the animalistic nature of human desperation. Each game presents its contestants with a challenge makes them question their morals for the sake of their own survival. Had me at the edge of my seat the entire time, would love for the series to receive a season 2.
Shôjo tsubaki: Chika gentô gekiga (1992)
Confusing and Distasteful
I want to start off by saying I respect the hustle of the director being that he single handedly composed, drew, and animated this film over a course of five long years. It also apparently took over 5,000 individual sheets of paper to complete and that's no easy feat. However, this film was extremely difficult to follow. Was there a story? Yes. Could I tell you what happens in the end? Nope. It's a roller coaster of confusion and gore without real meaning. I honestly don't know how there are people giving this film such high ratings, they must be able to appreciate something in it that I cannot.
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (2011)
Promising Beginning, Disgusting Overall
This film certainly has a better storyline than the first film in the series. Despite the main character not speaking for the whole length of the film, it wasn't boring and was still able to convey his emotions to the viewer. I also actually liked the choice of using black and white overlay as it gave it more of a gritty and vintage feel. Honestly, I believe it started out strong but as it went on it just became more and more disgusting almost to the point of being intolerable to watch even for the most seasoned gore/horror movie watcher. I wanted to like this film but it became too much. Unlike the first film, after I finished watching this I was left feeling lightheaded.
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)
Great Actors, Bad Film
I already knew what to expect before watching this film as I'd heard it mentioned many times in disturbing movie lists. It's also just well-known for it's odd and extreme premise. I believe the actors all did a great job with what they were given but the film itself could've been executed better. There were many mistakes and moments that lacked the logic of a "normal-functioning" human being (ex. Lindsay's running away and cowers behind the door and the bed when there was an ample amount of time to break the window and escape). Overall, great actors and an interesting idea but horribly executed film.
