Wynonna Earp: Walking After Midnight (2016)
Walking After Midnight!
Back again with the rewatch reviews, baybee! This is another very fun episode; things are really starting to kick off. Waverly just wants to live a normal life and invites folks over for a party, which only two people show up to - and they only show up to be the typical mean girls.
So when she has a chance to pretend Doc is her boyfriend, of course she does, and of course he goes along with it because why wouldn't he?
Things go downhill fast though when the Stone Witch shows up... and she wants what's hers. Which happens to be a skull that Waverly was left by her Uncle Curtis. Yeah, just what every girl wants as an heirloom.
It's wild, if you wanna find out what happens next, give it a watch!
Wynonna Earp: Diggin' Up Bones (2016)
The plot thickens...
In this episode, Wynonna continues to want to do things her way - and Dolls continues to try and play nice with the government officials and the mayor. They both have the same goals but different ways of going about achieving them which is beginning to cause a bit of friction. I've always hated unnecessary drama between characters in shows - which is why it was so refreshing to have it actually be for a meaningful reason in this media! Everything has a purpose and a reason for happening in the first place in this show - you don't get all the random sh** added in for shock value!
We also get to meet an old frenemy of Doc's, whom I adore. He's a revenant, but not quite like the others - much more mild mannered, he wants Wynonna's help with something. Will she help him? What is it he needs and more importantly waht is it he's offering in return for her services? Go find out!
Wynonna Earp: The Blade (2016)
One of my favourite episodes in Season 1!
What the title says! This is one of my favourite episodes - it's actually playing right now. For this one, I urge fans of Bloody Mary type plots to take notice: because mirrors play a big part in this episode. You'll understand later.
So! Invisible assassin, who kills anyone that has committed a sin and gone unforgiven for it. Beg forgiveness from the persons you've wronged, and you will be allowed to live - if they forgive you. Just that plot device ALONE is intriguing enough that I would have picked it up immediately!
Can our heroes - all of whom have guilts and regrets in their own pasts - take care of this latest revenant? Especially considering that Doc's identity is out in the open now, and he and Dolls aren't quite seeing eye to eye? Well, watch to find out!
Wynonna Earp: Leavin' on Your Mind (2016)
Oh shoot! (Literally!)
The game is afoot. Revenants are just as sick of the curse as the Earps are, and some of them aren't willing to wait for Bobo's plan - which no one but Bobo himself are privy to - to take fruition. So a couple of them make a deal with a witch in an attempt to escape the town of Purgatory. Uh oh.
This episode is a really good one for many reasons - a tiny detail mentioned ends up being an ever-so-tiny nod toward a future episode (and eventually entire storyline!) that I only caught on my second rewatch! No, I shan't tell you what it is; watch the show yourself! It's worth it!
Wynonna Earp: Keep the Home Fires Burning (2016)
Things are kicking off!
And my reviews of each episode continue! The pilot started off strong, and it keeps up steam. We get to see a lot more of the bad guys this time around now that everyone's introduced and the background is set. And one of my other favourites, Bobo Del Rey, the leader of the revenants, finally makes an appearance - played by the ever so talented Michael Eklund.
(If any fans of Blood Ties come by this review and enjoyed Eklund's character of Norman Bridewell in that series, you should give this show a watch - Eklund himself said that Norman was sort of the 'prototype' for how he plays Bobo!)
Our main heroine is sitll reluctant to stick around and play by the curse's rules - but when her sister is put in danger, she realises she might not have a choice. What happens? Watch to find out!
Wynonna Earp: Purgatory (2016)
What a beginning!
This episode started out strong and kept going with the perfect pacing. Most pilot episodes I watch, pacing ends up going screwy - either they cram too much into too short a time, or they start out slow and take forever to set up. Not so with Wynonna Earp! It has the perfect balance, and was what clued me in that this was going to be an amazing show.
We meet most of our main cast, and they are all engaging and leave me wanting to know more about them! (And we meet one of my favourites - Doc Holliday! One of my other favourites doesn't show up quite yet, but we'll get there.)
Wynonna Earp (2016)
Finally, an entertaining show!
I have a habit of being stuck rewatching the same shows I liked in the 90s and early to mid 2000s because most stuff that comes out nowadays isn't that good. It's hard to find media to enjoy, for me.
Then I stumbled on Wynonna Earp and fell in love. The characters are human - like, third dimensional and relatable and real. Add in the perfect mix of comedy and drama, solid plotlines, and - I'll admit it - how damn pretty and engaging the actors are, this is a show you do not want to miss out on!
