Kronk's New Groove (2005)
A Worthy Successor
because i work at a very popular movie rental chain, i was able to see this movie before it comes out on DVD dec. 13th. i tried going into this movie with no expectations, and i must say that i was pleasantly surprised. it'll never live up to the brilliance of the emperor's new groove, but it's still pretty good for a Disney direct-to-DVD release. it referred back to the first movie a lot, and it rehashed some of the old jokes (ala austin powers movies), but it had enough fresh gags to keep me entertained. kronk was good as a main character, and we get into his character a lot, but the character development did get in the way of the humor of kronk from time to time. when it comes down to it, kronk just wasn't as funny as he was in the first movie, but he's still a great character. check it out. you may enjoy it.
Tom Goes to the Mayor (2004)
best original thing on adult swim
this show is the greatest. bob odenkirk's influence is definitely there. i know i'm in the minority here, but i am not a fan of aqua teen hunger force. it can occasionally be funny, but for the most part shake and meatwad are annoying as hell. sealab isn't much better. with that said, i have to say that tom goes to the mayor is hilarious, and when it's not laugh out loud funny, it's so weird and offbeat that i cannot help but admire it. a big reason why it's funny is just the voices themselves, especially the mayor. he could say anything, and a grin would spread across my face. its off beat style is almost intelligent in a way, just because of its creativity. a lot of fans of ATHF and sealab hate this... i'm the opposite. hope tom goes to the mayor stays around for a decent amount of time.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Another self-righteous Kubrick film
Like 2001 and Full Metal Jacket, Kubrick tries to express the point he's making WAY too hard in this movie. Nothing's left to the imagination, and it's like Kubrick thinks that his audience are a bunch of morons who can't come up with conclusions and ideas of their own. See Lolita. I thoroughly enjoyed that movie. This was before Kubrick became all self-righteous and tried to push ideals on his viewers. I heard Dr. Strangelove was good, too. The same kind of humor as Lolita. And Peter Sellers, who's in both these films, kicks ass. Kubrick, I don't know why people praise you so much.
