Paper Spiders (2020)
What a movie - A perfect balance of comedy & drama
This one deserves to be recognized. I can't personally think of another similar story out there and that uniqueness is something special.
This movie shines a light on what it is like to care for somebody with an illness (of any kind) and the repercussions of that, for the victim and their loved ones.
There are some astounding performances by Taylor, Owen, and Nelson, and the rest of the cast feels so right as well for this story. It starts with a fantastic script, which is in part due to the fact that this seems to be a personal and touching story. The direction, writing, and cinematography are very strong and hook you in right from the beginning.
Babyteeth (2019)
Entertaining despite being heartbreaking
This unfolding tragedy proves to be entertaining, even in all of it's grief. This is not your typical teen drama movie, and perhaps this is due to the fact that "Babyteeth" was adapted from a stage play. It most definitely feels more like a real life depiction of what it is like to have a terminal disease.
Honey Boy (2019)
Realistic and touching
Authentic and raw. Sheds light on what it's like to be a child in the entertainment world. Great acting and pretty emotional actually.
The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
Unique premise
It's quirky and offbeat but remains original nevertheless. It is a bit anticlimactic but overall still works.
