We Bought a Zoo (2011)
There is no quality acting and little meaningful writing in this B-level movie.
'We Bought a Zoo' is focused on the loss of a wife, not knowing what to do, dealing with a dysfunctional son, then finding a run-down zoo to buy, and, yes, then the Zoo saves everyone. That is the story, plus new love for both the grieving father and son. There are many stupid scenes, like where 'father' Matt Damon, at night, drives 16 miles back to a store to buy butter for his two darling, spoiled kids to put on their corn-on-the-cob. Yea, like my dad, would have done that. NOT real life. Nothing is close to reality. I mean who can really buy a large 20-acre Zoo, with animals, located in Southern California and only sixteen miles out of town (wait add a huge house, buildings, and lots of equipment) on a newspaper writer's job? Reality? Then when the repair and food bills mount up and credit cards and banks are overdrawn, an $84,000 cash gift is enough to keep the Zoo running. Reality, No. Funny, No, Bad writing, melodramatic and thank god for the fast-forward control. YES.
Pressure Cooker (2008)
What a find!
Brilliant, Inspiring, Engaging, and at the end, emotional. Reminds me of great movies like Stand and Deliver (1988) or To Sir, With Love (1967) yet this is a documentary about a ghetto High School in Philadelphia that has a brilliant/drill Sargent culinary arts teacher Wilma Stephenson.
American Experience: The Big Burn (2014)
A must-see documentary
A must-see documentary for those that want to know Idaho/Montana history. This great documentary takes an in-depth view of the Great Fire of 1910, the establishing of the National Forest Department, and the burning of Wallace, Idaho. Stunning was the fact that within 36 hours the fire spread throughout the forest an area the size of Connecticut. 3 million acres of forest were eventually lost.
Deadwood (2019)
Seriously Disappointing.
This movie is like having all the ingredients (original actors) to make a cake but no baking powder (storyline) and it falls flat. The entire movie is spoken in Shakespearean language! Why? Nothing happens in the movie, nothing, until halfway through, then the movie slowly drags on. Look, I was a serious fan of Deadwood the TV Serious, I bought all the DVDs. That Deadwood won scores of awards (getting "universal acclaim" by Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic) but this movie is a serious misfire, dud, spent cartridge. Avoid.
Wunderland (2018)
Should be filed under tragedy as a film.
Total Bunk... beyond bad. Over dramatic acting and a script written by a high school drama coach, "I think they're coming" Nah, they are beaten and it's winter they ain't coming. You sure, I mean, I think they're coming." I mean dang they couldn't even get the weather right... where is the snow!? Ardennes right? December right? Heavy snowstorms, right? And then there is 5 min segment about a goat ... that's right, a goat. Total crud.
