I have no idea what movie all of these reviewers saw
31 July 2021
This was not an exceptional movie.

It was barely a decent movie.

I have no idea what all these unbelievable reviews are about.

I felt minimum tension, I rarely laughed and mostly found myself confused as to why certain things happened; events that seem to have no connection to anything; characters appeared & then disappeared for no clear reason.

The pace was good; I like movies that take their time. The acting was good, but I have no idea how anyone could give this anything higher than a five.

Constantine (2005)

A lot of fun
1 February 2005
I really enjoyed this movie. It's more a story of a human being with no redeeming characteristics, save a significant hatred of evil, and I find that oddly appealing. John Constantine's journey toward heaven or hell is effectively portrayed as the human journey we all have to take, with of course the requisite explosions and great special effects. Shia LaBeouf's character is as fun to watch as he always is, though I wish he had more screen time; hoping that that will happen in the inevitable sequel. The opening scene is particularly potent, and a warning that the usual rules of a horror movie will not be followed. A great deal of fun for those looking for a good time.

Absolutely Relentless
25 February 2004
Breathtaking, relentless, visceral and brutal. I remember a scene where one of the characters spoke to Jesus and said "Just a little more, its almost over" and I felt like the director was talking to me. Charges of "excessive violence" by Americans (I am one) strike me as lacking in morally authority. This was not violence for the sake of violence; it had a point. Christians basic belief that Jesus had to suffer pain for our offenses made it necessary to push the envelope here, and not let us off the hook. An inspiring, challenging movie. I can't say I liked it; that would be brutal. So let me say this instead: I needed it.

Stunning

Absolutely stunning. Powerful, emotional, hilarious...all these things and more. A movie about reconciliation, love and the joy of life. I highly recommend this movie; particularly for those who need a "lift" without the typical hollywood transparency.

This is it

This movie absolutely blew me away. A fine, sweeping, emotional story of redemption and sacrifice. Great acting, powerful story telling and beautiful scenery. It does tend to drag on a bit toward the end, but any problems are easily overlooked by the overall greatness of the movie. I highly recommend this.

Happy Family (2003–2004)
Good, predictable fun
9 September 2003
Having just seen the pilot, I must say I enjoyed myself. All the obvious elements are present to place it solidly in the category of your average sitcom (predictable set-up's, obnoxious laugh track, etc), but the great sense of timing among the actors and the dialogue set it apart from the others. A fine effort.

Great summer fun

A fine movie; crisp timing, good acting and great dialogue. I enjoyed this movie very much and recommend it highly. Something rare about this movie; the director lets you use your imagination; there is, believe it or not, some subtlety to this movie. Enjoy!

Great diversion

A great diversion! I enjoyed myself during this movie; the action is perfectly choreographed, the characters are consistent with the premise and the ending extremely well done. Good flick, lots of fun.

Shockingly Good

A fantastic movie; intriguing plot crazy dialogue, diverse characters, all out fun. I highly recommend this movie. Weaknesses? A couple of times, the vulgarity was gratuitous.

All in all, I dug it.

A good diversion
20 March 2003
This was a good movie; certainly not great, but very well put together. The fight scenes were intensely well choreographed and didn't have so much flash that you couldn't tell what was going on. The strength of the movie to me lied in the skills that the various characters portrayed. The weakness was definitely in the movitvation of the Hallam character.

I enjoyed watching this movie and will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out.

Lots of fun
6 February 2003
This film was a hoot. A great blend of tension, intrigue, humor and character. All of these qualities held together by a cast of excellent actors. Until the credits had begun, I waited for the next surprise. I recommend this movie highly. Enjoy!

Oh Yeah!
16 December 2002
This was Star Trek at its finest: a focus on Picard and Data and as little "acting time" as possible for Troi. The enemy was wonderfully portrayed and the special effects were flawless. Well done on every level. This is one to enjoy!

I enjoyed this

I enjoyed this movie; it was a lot of fun to watch and well acted. I liked that the writers didn't feel compelled to "make a statement", except about the hunger to survive. A fine movie, a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

Gritty, intense and tough
25 October 2002
I liked this movie a lot. A sharp paced, brutal movie with enough bad attitude to make a tough day better. Strong plot, good action and a likable character in Mel Gibson. Gibson clearly had a fun time playing the character he did, though at times, he struggled to refrain from slipping into his "goofy" persona from the Lethal Weapon series. All in all a lot of fun.

A fine movie
14 October 2002
An excellent movie that I deeply appreciated. I give this high marks for its respectful representation of the life of a simple saint. At times, the movie is certainly dated, but the humor and truth of it remains. I recommend this movie with some disclaimers; its not terribly exciting or romantic; its just a good, clear biography of a saint.

Outstanding
7 October 2002
This was the finest of the Harris books on film. Disturbing, suspensful and exciting, I give this the highest rating I can. Each lead actor did a superb job of adapting a great book into an excellent movie. I highly recommend this movie.

the real deal
30 September 2002
This movie was fantastic! I laughed so hard I was in pain. Few movies have gotten me like this one did. I enjoyed the free spirit of the movie; they didn't take themselves so seriously and force the typical hollywood message down the viewers throat. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the non-traditional comedy.

Sexy Beast (2000)
Another stupid American chimes in
26 March 2002
Yeah, that's it; I'm just not sophisticated enough to get this movie

because I am an American. Give me a break! I understood the dialogue just fine and got the

"plot"; I'd seen it in the other 50 movies with the same idea. This

movie was low on plot, low on talent (Kingsley obviously

excluded), low on action, low on just about everything but profanity. Straight up, I could have told you the ending about 15 minutes into

the movie; if an American made it, it would have been cliche. Yuck. I didn't like it at all and I am bummed that I wasted 89 minutes of

my life that I will never get back.

The Shield (2002–2008)
The best of 2002
19 March 2002
This show rocks. Very tight filming (no wasted dialogue), well scripted, sound acting and almost perfect production. The only weakness I have seen so far is an overabundance of adult material that I feel is only added to make it seem edgy. The thing is, the show is sufficiently edgy without the extra. Anyway, I highly recommend this show to adult audiences looking for something that actually lives up to its billing. This show is it.

Ali (2001)
Basically, a MTV video
4 January 2002
Sorry, but this did not cut the mustard for me at all. It was,

basically, segments of Ali's life with vast spaces of music in

between. Will Smith was flawless and saved the movie from complete

basement status, and no two ways and the acting was superb, but

I have to say that I did not like this movie at all. Way too much music, way to little Ali.

Perfect
20 December 2001
No kidding, this was flawless. Hands down and to my memory,

the finest adaptation of a book that I have seen on the big screen.

What could be left out was without damaging the plot and what

needed to be kept in was. The director successfully avoided the need to impose modern

ideology and "remake" the classic book into a fine, fine movie. The acting was superb, the filiming was flawless and it was a

fantastic experience for myself and the five I went with. I cannot recommend this movie enough. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Broken Vows (1987 TV Movie)
Predictable Tripe
30 November 2001
This worthless movie was obviously created by someone who doesn't know enough about the priesthood to condemn it as much as they do. Falling back on every cliche about the priesthood they could muster, all the people who made this movie do is succeed in irritating and preaching with a type of blind passion that they condemn in the Church. I wish I never would have paid the $2.50 to rent it.

A Good Movie, but not great
28 October 2001
I enjoyed this movie, it was worth the money I spent on admission. There were some great moments that a good musical score would have made even better, but the movie did carry itself well It took me some time to realize this, but Robert Redford is not a great actor. This, and the improbability of the ending scenes is what kept it from being great. This is not to suggest, however, that you should avoid this movie, it is well worth seeing.

I rooted for the Dinosaurs
28 July 2001
Warning: Spoilers
When making this movie, the director had to decide whether it was going to be a childrens movie or an adult one. He took the third option and never decided. This movie lacked excitement and consistancy. The beasts looked great and that was fun, but nothing else worked for me. Action scenes took you to a point that would have been fun, but then they remembered it was also a kids movie so they stopped the scene before it could get hot.

SPOILER WARNING!!!!

The movie got so bad, that toward the end, I turned to the guy next to me, woke him up and said "10 bucks says they 'cut a deal' with the dinosaurs". They did. I mean, I know you don't make realism a goal when you make a movie about dinosaurs, but please, the child surviving in some kind of truck for weeks...why, oh why do this??
