BigBug (2022)
Deliciously weird sci-fi grotesque
What a ride although it's all playing out just in one space. But what a space that is!
Gorgeous 50s design meets over the top futurism in the brightest colours available.
Marvelous.
The dystopia shown here is so unique although the topic is ages old AI critical robots gone wild. Humans vs. Artificial intelligence is not new but the take is extremely refreshing.
The actors sell the grotesque comedy by playing their characters straight. Which is the best way to get the most out of the situations. The camerawork is so extravaganza and gonzo as Jeunet is always known for.
If you liked Delicatessen, City of the Lost Children and The Zero Theorem - this one's a treat for you.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
As with most Argento films this one has a handful of plot holes. The actors are not that good. The scenery is a bit like in a TV movie. Nothing new for Argento fans so far.
Now the good things: the murder scenes are gruesome and the music terrorizes the viewer even more. The idea to have a buddy movie between a blind prostitute and a child orphan in a horror film is something refreshingly new. The dog scenes are great and the car driving action scenes are suspenseful. This is obviously one of his better films. Loved the cinematic experience, might watch it again.
Bates Motel: Shadow of a Doubt (2014)
What is this?
The drug trash town stuff is taking over a prequel series about Norman Bates, one of the best film psychopaths in movie history. Really?
The nice girl from season one is a revenge killer now and starts a drug war. Really?
That's the whole story the writers found interesting? Meanwhile Norman Bates and his mother are singing a musical cue. Really?
After Breaking Bad came so many bad Breaking Bad clones and this is now one of them. So sad to waste the interesting core plot of domestical abuse, maybe incest and one of the great serial killers in movies. I don't know who the target group for this is, but it surely ain't no fans of Hitchcock or Psycho. What a waste.
