Ice Age (2002)
if you mix "Shrek" and "Monsters Inc." you get ICE AGE
But it's very original in it's way! This movie is highly recommended for all audiences (even grown-ups will enjoy it). It has lots of laughs, emotional moments, and an interesting plot. All I can say is : Don't miss this one, go to the movies now!
Inspiración (2001)
# 1 movie for a date
In the end, this movie will leave a smile on your face. "Inspiracion" is a great romantic comedy with good acting, a beautiful lead actress (Barbara Mori has to be the one of the prettiest Latin woman nowadays), and an entertaining -but predictable- plot.
I must say that I'm not the kind of guy that enjoys, cries, or whispers after watching a romantic movie... but I enjoyed this one, and I don't feel guilty.
Have a good time and watch "Inspiración". It's a must see for everyone!!
Memento (2000)
a round trip journey in time
"MEMENTO" had to win the best screenplay written directly for the screen in this year's Academy Awards. This is the kind of movie that will make you think, it will keep you wondering, but for sure, it will not bore you -unless you don't take it seriously-.
The characters of the movie are developed greatly, and the actors who portray them are perfect. The direction of the movie is great too, but if you blink maybe you'll get lost in some parts. "MEMENTO" is a flawless movie, it's perfect in all senses, it's watchable for thriller and mystery fans. A MUST SEE!!!!!!! 10/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
fellowship of the NERDS
I know I may be hated by thousands of IMDB fans, but... whatever!. This movie is only for the lovers of sci-fi or fans of the Tolkien book. LOTR has great special effects, and a good original music score, but that's it!! There's no good acting, I can't believe Ian Mc Kellen got nominated for Best Supporting Actor. This film is almost dedicated for nerds, those who think that this is the best movie of the year, or even worse, the best movie of all time!!!! Don't get me wrong, this movie is entertaining, but it's not the 8th wonder of the world.
---Minor SPOILER--- The ending! what about it??? It's like a soap opera's Friday episode it lets you guessing what will happen on the next episode,... the difference is that in a soap opera you know what will happen on Monday, and in this movie, you'll know it until late 2002!.
Fantasia (1940)
Magical! Fantastic!... Scary?!
"Fantasia" is a masterpiece, it's an excellent picture but...... what makes this movie frightening is the fact that the demons are real, they're based on true "characters". Ok, children may not know that interesting fact, but I remember having nightmares after watching the movie, (specially that scene!), so I think that other children may think they're scary, and may have problems trying to sleep as well. Ok, dont' miss this great film!!!
But beware, you'll be in visual contact with R e a l demons.
Veneno para las hadas (1986)
A very scary movie
I'm a fan of horror flicks, and I must say that "Veneno para las hadas" is the scariest film in 80's Mexican cinema. Horror films were very popular at that time, films such as "Friday the 13th", "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "Halloween" -and their sequels- followed the same plot, you know a boogyman killing everyone around, except a virgin heroine. "Veneno para las hadas" has a flawless direction, some false scares, and very good acting; this movie is for those who believe in witchcraft, devil, and in good horror. That's it, go and rent it!!!
Mannequin: On the Move (1991)
nice attempt...
"Mannequin 2" is not better than the original, but sure it's a great light comedy. I'd say that it's perfect to watch this movie with your sweetheart, or by yourself if you're in the mood for silly jokes, and a silly plot, but hey!!! you'll enjoy it.
William Ragsdale's role kinda reminded me his role in "Fright Night", he is dumb, but gets what he wants, but maybe it's just my imagination.
Kirsty Swanson looks great, and is OK, ... oh yeah, she was hot! mmmh Meshach Taylor gives the most homosexual performance in a 90's comedy movie. And Gail's character was OK because Julie Foreman is so pretty.
Don't expect too much of this movie, have a nice time watching it!
Blossom (1990)
not bad...
I've been watching the re-runs of "Blossom", and I feel guilty because I like it. This show has good acting, kind of funny plots, and a beautiful and skilled lead .. uhm, actress. Watch "Blossom" if you don't have anything else to do.
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
not that awful...
...yes it's a bad movie, but what did you expect of a 5th installment in the "Halloween" series. After the excusable part 4 the Hallowen franchise should've been killed. I'm not saying that this movie is terrible, sure it's a bad horror movie but it's ok if you want to waste 90 minutes of your life.
This time Michael got special powers to "stay tuned" with his niece Jamie Lloyd, he also got the ability to drive, and the ability to swim.
This movie is wrong in several aspects such as the plot. We don't get a reasonable explanation about the "man in black" (well, until Halloween : The Curse of Michael Myers - the worst of the sequels), and it seems that everyone lost respect to Michael, he isn't scary anymore.
What saves this movie from being buried in the bad cinema graveyard is Donald Pleasance's performance, and I think that Ellie Cornell is the cutest girl in any 80's horror movie.
If you are interested in the Halloween series, watch the original, part 2, and... if you are in the mood, part 4.
Hide and Go Shriek (1988)
possibly the most frightening killer in a slasher flick
A must see! if you want to watch a movie with false scares, creepy environment, creepy music, and entertaining death sequences, then
"Hide and Go Shriek" is the perfect movie.
The flaws about this movie are bad actors, and a boring plot (8 teens stay in a place and get stalked and killed by someone). This movie is different from others because we get to know the killer at the end, and BELIEVE ME, it will be scary.
This movie will sure give you the creeps...
Bring It On (2000)
she's Torrance!
I have to admit, I only watched this movie because Kirsten Dunst appeared on it. Kirsten is great in this film, she's fun, she's pretty, she's a princess!. After watching it, I realized that I enjoyed the movie. It's a typical teen film, but it sure has it's fun moments.
Watch "Bring It On" ONLY if you are in a good mood... or if you are a Kirsten Dunst fan.
Halloween (1978)
BEST HORROR FILM OF ALL TIMES?
After watching "HALLOWEEN" on a rainy night my life changed. I was so scared because I was so into the movie that I felt that anytime Michael Myers could enter in my room. That was long time ago, I had 12.
The superb direction is by none other than John Carpenter. "HALLOWEEN" is the father of all the 80's teen - slasher films, and it influences the actual horror films, that's something that none other movie has done for the horror genre. Seems that horror's glory days are gone, and horror fans quench their thirst of terror with lame horror films (SCREAM ?). Where's that feeling of fear when the killer of the movie appears on scene? There aren't even haunting music themes for actual horror movies.
I hope that horror will emerge in 2002. Maybe horror will return, but not in it's full glory, as it's shown in "HALLOWEEN".
With Honors (1994)
One of the best movies of the 90's
I enjoyed this movie , I have to admit it. Joe Pesci is perfect in this film! The acting is well, I was surprised to know that Brendan Fraser can act !.
This is a must see for everyone... If you are in the mood of feeling diverse emotions, go and get this movie!
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
still kickin'!!! Jason is back!
"Jason Lives" is a great horror film... From the beginning to the end, every Friday the 13th fans will love this sequel. This movie should be considered as Friday the 13th part II, completely avoiding part II, III, the final chapter, and the lame part V.
This 6th installment in the Jason saga is a total surprise, it has gore mixed with humor making it one of the best horror movies of all time. This movie will make you laugh, and maybe scream, what else do you want in a movie ???!!!! The shocking intro, and the end are pure gold in the Jason movies. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR HORROR FANS!!!
Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
"a new dimension in horror"
This movie has it all for a Jason fan !!! It has Jason being the killer wearing the hockey mask, it has good looking teens, it has plenty of gore, some cool special effects, and a creepy atmosphere. "Friday the 13th part III" is one of the best of the series, it has good murder scenes, and you'll jump one or two times in your seat. This is a classic in the Friday the 13 th saga!! Jason wears the hockey mask for the 1st. time... Acting is bad (uh, it's a Jason movie), but what saves this movie is that it's as good as part II. I recommend it for any horror fan. IT'S NOT THE BEST OF THE SERIES, BUT IT'S STILL "GOOD" .
Vertigo (1958)
pure quality
Hitchcock's best film ??? I think yes... "Vertigo" is the best thriller I've ever seen, it has great performances, an amazing plot, and what can I say about the direction of the film? it's masterful. I watched this movie after watching a music video called "Last Cup Of Sorrow" form the band Faith No More, and after I knew that the plot was a rip-off of this movie, I watched it and now it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
All I can say is that if you haven't seen "Vertigo" what are you waiting for??? Go now and rent it, no no, buy it! it's a great film in all aspects.
The Marriage Fool (1998)
good!!
This is a film to enjoy with your family... John Stamos performance is good, and what can I say about Walter Matthau?, he carries great the movie in his shoulders.. The chemistry between Matthau and Stamos is perfect. This is the kind of movie to watch on a Sunday morning, or when you are in the mood of watching happy ending stories.
Léon (1994)
EXCELLENT FILM!
Excellent is the word that better describes this movie.
Jean Reno delivers an amazing performance, he's a Spanish-French actor, in this movie he's an Italian-American "professional". And this was Natalie Portman's debut in a movie, which is a fortunate debut, she convinces as Mathilda, a young girl that lives situations that not even a grown up could resist. I was amazed by her performance, I think that this is the best performance by a young actress in an action movie.
The couple formed by Reno and Portman is brilliant, both actors show how to impress and act at the same time. SO, the 2 main characters of the movie are great. And a key element for this movie is Gary Oldman, he's -great- performance is convincing, he's the cold blood villain with no feelings. I think that Gary Oldman is role model for every action movie villain.
The plot is well threatened through the film, and the action scenes are amazing, what else can you ask in an action film? Well "Léon" has everything...
This is a must-see movie , "Léon" is a great action (drama?) movie that will keep you in your seat until the shocking end. This is one of my favorite movies of all time...
Two Thumbs Up!!!
Boogies Diner (1994)
has anyone seen this sitcom??
This sitcom is not as great as other series, but it had a light touch that made it funny... The characters are funny (each one in their own way). The situations were nothing different from other teen sitcoms, but were ok..
Anyways, this was an entertaining program, it was not perfect, but it was ok if you didn't have nothing better to watch.
The Next Best Thing (2000)
an enjoyable movie
Madonna is great in this one! Her performance is more than good, and it was better that her performance in Evita, well ! it's Madonna, everything she does is great!!. This is the kind of movie to watch with your girlfriend. It you have the chance to watch "The Next Best Thing" well!! watch it, it deserves a chance.. 8 out of 10
Beyond Reason (1985)
weird, weird movie
This movie marked the debut of Telly Savalas as director.
*SPOILER* "Beyond Reason" is a bad movie, don't even try to find it, it's a waste of time. Telly Savalas (Dr. Nicholas Mati) has a normal life, has a wife, a daughter, and lives well. Everything seems to be good when Dr. Mati starts having flashbacks about a "black" event of his past (you'll find out when you watch the movie). Then, Dr. Matti starts having a fatal attraction with one of his students played by Valentine (Priscila Barnes), who delivers a "good" performance... (by the way she looks great, she's beautiful). These kind of events turn Dr. Mati into a man with mental issues... but I won't give away the -poor- ending of the movie.
There are disturbing scenes such as the man that commits suicide, the flashbacks of Dr. Mati, and a scene where Dr. Mati gets in Valentine's department acting like a psycho while she's sleeping...Yikes!
Ok, don't watch this movie unless you are considering studyin' psychology. After watching this movie, you will change your mind about your studies.
Hellgate (1989)
a bad, bad movie!
Ok, hellgate is a TERRIBLE movie, ! bad acting, bad direction, bad cinematography, don't even rent it.. or do not watch it even if it's the only thing to watch on TV. The reason for me to watch this movie was JOSIE ( Abigail Wolcott ) She had no acting skills, but she is Hot!!she was the only good thing about this BAD movie.
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
A decent end for Jason... but not Friday the 13 th style
----spoiler----
"The creator of the first returns to bring you the last" , after watching the trailer, and that line, I was so excited about watching the movie. I've been a fan of the movies since I was a little boy. After watching the movie's first 10 minutes I thought : this movie returns to it's roots, it has all the Friday the 13th elements : a dumb girl, no reason for nudity, dark settings, and Jason being scary. I was impressed by the scene where the SWAT team shoot and throw a grenade blowing Jason in millions of pieces. I thought again : this movie will rock!!! But sadly, after the opening credits the movie was no more Friday the 13th. There's only one part of old Friday the 13th style, the scene where the campers get killed by the possessed Coroner. The movie is not scary, it has lots of dialogue scenes, and the acting is good overall.
The movie has good direction, some settings are dark, beautiful and creepy at the same time. It was nice to have John D. Le May (Steven) as the lead actor, 'cause he's part of the Friday the 13th series, and he is a well known character. Kari Keegan's (Jessica) performance is ok, and she's cute too, but the character that I enjoyed the most was Steven Williamson (Creighton Duke) he had great lines, and convinced as the mercenary that wanted to end with Jason, his role was important. Kane Hodder as Jason is always cool, he gives Jason a personality. I was disappointed with the plot, c'mon! if the movie's title is "Jason Goes To Hell", Jason should do the killings looking as Jason! the hockey masked murderer. Anyways, the movie's end will please die hard Friday fans.
I'd say that this is a good movie if you are a fan of the movies , ONLY if you are a fan.
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
a good sequel!!!
This movie started it all, Jason is the killer this time.
Friday the 13th part 2 is a scary movie, it has a "good" plot (Jason, the boy who supposedly drowned in the lake returns seeking revenge for the murder of his mother, this revenge consists of killing everybody near Crystal Lake, or anyone that steps in his way). This time Jason is a grown-up , so that means him chasing teens, and them killing them one by one. There are some good scares, Jason is scary when he comes to screen, and the atmosphere is creepy . Amy Steel is the best female character that fights Jason in all the Friday the 13th movies, her acting is very good. This movie is recommended for horror fans.
The Dead Come Home (1989)
An underrated horror movie!
This movie is pure horror! The plot is simple : A group of teens have to repair an old house, but when one of them hits a grave in the backyard, and old lady awakens from death, and one by one, these teens get killed by the old lady.
Well, you have to watch the movie to understand it. This movie has plenty of gore, and some scares. Any horror fan should watch it.
