Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Best movie of 2022
There's little to say when a movie so absurd manages to not break the fourth wall. So. Here's some bullet points:
1. The editing is crazy good, and so is the vfx(the latter having been made by only self taught people is just crazy to me)
2. The writing is very good. After someone said something and there was some silence, i thought "how would I write the rest of this conversation" and found it incredibly hard, but when the conversation actually went on, I was always surprised
3. This movie has let me give a definition of surrealism/absurdism: "saying real things with surreal events", and I think this movie is brilliant in this aspect: it tackles emotions (and philosophy, and love) without being sugary.
Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (2002)
9.5/10. It would've been a 10, but the first part is slow
Other than that, this movie is really great. Really fresh and fun. It mixes reality and fantasy in an uncommon way that works really well: no wizards or elfs, just a magic freeway.
La Causa (2019)
Great documentary but there's no story
It's a random accumulation of pecuilar things. Still a must see, because the stuff you see is quite impressive in a negative way, but there's no order in the way the stuff is presented.
Unbelievable: Episode 4 (2019)
Another plot developing episode
The subplot of the courtroom feels somewhat comical, which is somewhat bad in this show but also somewhat good to release some of the tension.
Other than that, it's another plot developing episode, like Zodiac, so nothing really too good or too bad, but I liked the ending of pulling over the black guy just because he has the same truck. I would like more backstories on the characters though, and also the pool table scene where recurring characters exchange information on rapes feels really out of place.
Unbelievable: Episode 3 (2019)
Moving forward with the plot, not too much to say
This is a basic investigation episode, not a lot to say. I hate the acting of the white girl's bf. I also hated the whole image enhancing scene. But I liked that they suspect a cop and the story thickens. The episode feels like it's going nowhere but I guess that's because the investigation is going nowhere. Until the end :)
Unbelievable: Episode 1 (2019)
Starts off sloppy, but it's on point
I like the idea (well, it's a real story so what can I say), but I didn't like some of it, like the fact that she's being treated with 0 emotional empathy and that the cops push her to admit that she's made it up all so fast. Also, the interrogations and the whole "tell me your story again" seems very unrealistic. For the first part, they should've hired a psychologist that works with this to write better dialogues on this part, but if the interrogations are conducted the way they are in real life, then they should've made it clear that irl interrogations work like that and are so cold. On the second part, same deal. Third option(besides this being realistic or this being just bad) is that they're so cold just because it's all seen through her eyes and she's so scared she's seeing everyone as cold while they really aren't. The acting is on point and I'd say it feels very immersive. Only exception to this is when she asks "am I in trouble?" and one cop has to explain to another what that means. I know what that could mean, I'm sure a cop that old wouldn't have to explain it to a cop that's about as experienced in this. But overall pretty positive, also I know that the next episodes are going to be better because they have the same pros but solve these cons.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu: Episode 5 (2020)
Kind of cheap
The animals reappearing makes me mad. So does the cliche of the organization in the middle of nowhere and the eccentric guy at the top. The riddle was good and makes me think that these games are the best, and not the ones where brute force is involved.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu: Episode 4 (2020)
Solid themes but lame execution
Having a random panther pop up is such a cheap thing to do that I can't even. So is the whole "you were standing on the goal the whole time. Also, the first episode was a 3 and this is a 4 but the solution is very lame: if the protagonist figured out the solution, they would've just stood there doing nothing, while in the first episode there was tension even though the protagonist had it figured out. Either make the difficulty lower or make the game feel more complex. I just suppose they needed the extra visa days for the rest of the show.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu: Episode 2 (2020)
This isn't it, but still watchable
This episode isn't it. There's so many things that are unrealistic: why do the horses move that way? They could've ended the game immediately but they are too theatrical o do so and prefer turning slowly or rising the gun slowly. Also, the fact that there are 2 buttons in the end just to make the episode longer. That would make no sense.. I like the female character, I hope she comes back for other episodes but it seems like every person does their own thing. I liked the variety of not having every protagonist play every episode. These things rise the vote from 6 to 7.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu: Episode 1 (2020)
Starts good but with a very long premise
The pilot is good and keeps you engaged but is very slow paced in the first part, but it has to be because the game is very fast paced. I liked the cinematography but some framing are either bad to watch(meaning they could've been better) or too short. Cfor example, when the protagonist is looking for everyone, there's an aerial view of him that should've lasted the whole rest of the scene to emphasize the fact that he is alone, but they cut it after 2 seconds. I recommend it because it's a good idea and seems to be a saw-like with different themes.
La casa de papel: Vivir muchas vidas (2021)
As the last 3 seasons, a loss of much potential
I'm not one to usually write reviews but I had to express how much I hated this episode. Not because of Tokyo's death per se, as her being a main character doesn't mean she shouldn't die.
I want to first address the whole Stockholm storyline, as it didn't make any sense. Her and Denver's love is put into question and no one cares to answer except for her in a whopping 2 words.
As for Tokyo, her first injuries are so poorly explained I'm at a loss: there's no windows, how is she supposed to get shot? I would have loved something like Gandia putting a camera in and describing her position to the snipers who shot through ghe wall,(as unrealistic ad it sounds) but this is just dumb lol. Also, the flashbacks suck and are just there to put into question her love for Rio. And there's basically no questions about it, as the last 2 seasons she didn't even know he was there and now he's her prince charming just for the sake of it? Lol
Also, those helmets look so funny because of their sizes compared to the heads lol, they just lose credibility in my eyes.
