Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993)
Gets better and better
Since I was a kid the the main thing I saw in Superman movies was the focus was completely on his Superman self, and very little on his reporting skills or his relationship with Lois Lane. I was also quite tired of Superman punching a guy and him flying 200 metres and destroying a building. This series was EXACTLY what I wanted.
The first season was I would say probably the weakest of the 4, as some pockets of episodes were good, some bad. It felt as though the writers were still finding their footing.
The story completely got better by the start-mid of 2nd season, when Lois and Clark Kent finally start going out together.
The end of second and third season is where I think the show probably hit its peak, the storylines, mostly focused on the relationship of Lois and Clarke, were extremely nicely written and shown, and the writers had the courage to actually take it slow and think in a long term way, not for short term.
The 4th season was was pretty good too, the storylines were very good again, though I didn't like the way the season ended. They were setting it up for a 5th season but it was cancelled unfortunately so can't really do anything.
Lets get to the acting.
Dean Cain as Superman/Clarke Kent was pretty good, as good as a actor playing those plain-ish roles could be. He definitely did his best.
Teri Hatcher, as Lois Lane, absolutely stole the show without a shadow of doubt. Her acting was better than everyone on the show, her expressions, her dedication, her sweet voice, her enthusiasm, everything was amazing.
John Shea as Lex Luthor was extremely good but Lex being shown mostly in the first season, which wasn't the best definitely hampered the potential of his excellent acting being shown in better storylines.
The supporting characters of Perry White and Jimmy Olsen did their job very nicely, though Jimmy not getting a ending at the end of season 4 is definitely is a sore point.
The parents of Superman, Jonathan and Martha Kent do their job perfectly and one can see how Clarke became such a nice person under their guidance.
All in all its a definite watch and will entertain you. The show got better with age, the graphics also got much better, they could have added few more different background scores but still forgivable. I'll miss the show. Will probably watch it again in a few years.
Baiju Bawra (1952)
Not worth spending 150+ mins on this
I had quite expections when I sat down to watch this one, but unfortunately I was disappointed.
The movie starts very nicely and strongly, which continues for the first 30-45 mins, but from then on, it slowly slowly spirals out of control. The more you watched the worse it got, and even though they tried to emotionally supercharge the last scene, it just fell flat on the face.
The songs were very good but not evergreen.
The hero wants to take revenge against Tansen, but actually Tansen is barely shown throughout the whole movie, and even in those scenes he doesn't do anything from which the audience will have negative feelings towards him. You actually side with this good hearted man, instead of this hell bent on revenge, heartbroken man.
All in all, even though the acting and songs were good, the way the story was shown was very bad, and certainly not worth spending almost 3 hours on this.
Before Sunrise (1995)
If you enjoy romantic movies, this should be the first one on your list.
Words cannot express how good this movie is. They simply cannot properly.
This is easily one of the best romantic movies I've seen in my entire life.
The actors have a done a mind blowing job, and they seem to be just their natural selves.
There are so so many amazing scenes in this movie. The dialogues are insanely good, each conversation, the way they're said and felt, you can connect to them immediately. I didn't expect them to be so good. There were so many dialogues where they immediately touched your heart.
Probably my most favourite scene is where they go into a room to listen to a song in a music shop and there are no dialogues just the song playing and while one looks away the other one looks at them, then they look away and then the first one looks at them. This back and forth, that melts your heart.
All in all, if you enjoy romantic movies, this should be the first one on your list.
Roman Holiday (1953)
A movie with an extremely peaceful end
If you want to watch a beautiful movie that has a beautiful ending and makes you happy, this is the one.
Audrey Hepburn's acting is excellent. You can very well believe she is a princess. Her reactions when she find out she slept in Gregory's clothes are quite entertaining. Gregory Peck is sometimes beside Audrey sometimes behind her in attention being given, but that's completely fine.
The circumstances of how she meets Gregory and runs away from the palace are very nicely shown, so are their trip throughout Rome. The movie was purposely shot in black and white as they didn't want the attention to shift from the couple towards the beautiful city.
In regards to the ending, I thought that Audrey will find out about his lies but in the end they will get back together and eventually marry all that because that's usually how the story in such movies ends. But I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see that this was not the case at all!
In the end they both know their place. The final scene of the press conference was very beautifully shot, and gives a fitting end to a wonderful movie. In my opinion the final scene catapults the movie to even bigger heights than it already was before.
All in all, a very very good movie to watch, and one which will leave you at peace in the end.
Mary Poppins (1964)
You'll feel Peace
What a BEAUTIFUL movie! No other adjective correctly fits Julie Andrews and this movie. The movie is shot so wonderfully!! The attention to detail in the animated scenes simply blew my mind. Every single character acted wonderfully, with lots of humour. Definitely one to sit down with your family and see.
Mr. & Mrs. '55 (1955)
A very nice movie
The acting of Madhubala, Lalita Pawar and Johnny Walker is outstanding. The songs are nice, though not evergreen. The movie gives a big dose of comedy thanks to Walker and cute romance. Lalita Pawar really lives her character as a feminist. Considering this movie came in the 50's, the society's views at that time, I would say this was a really bold movie with a thinking of decades ahead and I'm very happy they pulled it off!
