Sons of Liberty (2015)
What nonsense!
I consider the true history of the American Revolution, and the establishment of our present Constitution, as lost forever; and nothing but misrepresentations, or partial accounts of it, will ever be recovered. (John Adams) Never was that quote so true as with this pathetic, over reaching example of the American revolution in film. I missed it on Television so I purchased the set on Amazon. I watched part 1 and some of part 2. I was literally cringing and screaming at my TV. So as not to have debris spread all over my living room for taking a hammer to it I calmed myself long enough to toss the garbage into the trash. In case my views are not clear. The makers should be tarred and feathered. At least then they could claim that they have some knowledge of what it was actually like to live during that time. As it stands now, its clear the producers haven't a single clue.
Noah (2014)
Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and Transformers
Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and Transformers all rolled into one. With the exception, of course, the other 3 films were great. This one is embarrassing to watch. I wondered out loud whether this was meant to be a joke or perhaps an homage to those wonderfully campy and totally absurd sci-fi B movies of the 1950s. I mean can you imagine being one of the actors and having to participate in something like this!? My negative review has nothing at all to do with this film's total disregard for the Biblical text. I knew when the rock guys or whatever they're called (yeah, yeah I know the watchers) showed up this was trash. I stuck it out and tried to watch (no pun) based on what it is. Not a Bible story. But, an attempt by the writer to bastardize one of the most recognizable lessons in the Book. What you won't see in Noah: Non-spoiler alert! Mankind paying for generations of their sins. God speaking to Noah. Noah and his family eating meat. (Could not believe this buffoon of a writer made them vegans.) Oh, and, Noah's ultimate fall. Is it a story about allot of water and a big boat? Yes it is. And that's where any similarity between this movie and the story we all know ends. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Another asinine Hollywood production. Did I say homage to B movies? How about D- movies!
Free Birds (2013)
Garbage!
So here we have it Pilgrim villains versus Indian turkeys, you're joking? Here's another typical Hollywood, liberal distortion of facts, tradition and values. It's always the menacing white man that has it in for everything and anything that's poor and helpless. Are we too stupid to realize what this idiotic flick is actually about? Let's target kids. Get the kiddies turned off to meat and while we're at it let's make them hate those folks who survived a treacherous 3 month journey and came near to death to attain freedom and remove themselves from tyranny. Unbelievable! Thanks to the indigenous peoples that were here, by God's grace, who helped them survive. You see this is why the Pilgrims set that day aside to thank God. They understood that the help they received was a miracle. The more I think about this piece of trash flick the more angry it makes me. This is a perfect example of Hollywood producers who are desperate to add more vegan, liberals to their ranks. Hey Mosier and Hayward shame on you. Parents beware. Do not let your kids watch this movie!
Elysium (2013)
Hollywood Propaganda
What a bunch of Hollywood liberal B - - l S - - t! "Notify Homeland Security." indeed! Just look at those unfeeling, inhumane rich folks just living to live the high life. (No pun intended.) While the poor 'non-citizen' aliens are left suffering for their greed and lack of kindness and compassion. What the future needs, and according to this movie, seems to lack, is a Nanny State where everybody gets everything and the hard working, best educated and most competent get to pay for it all. This is propaganda at its best. Joseph Goebbels would marvel. The producers, not to mention Foster and Damon, don't even try to mask their disdain for those who have to deal with this country's security and its porous borders. To even dare invoke the name of the Department of Homeland Security in a manner that is totally disrespectful and hateful is outrageous. Shame on them and shame on anyone who thinks this pathetic bit of trash was made purely for the purpose of entertaining movie goers.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
?
The Hobbit Trilogy! Really!? I can't imagine how hard-up some Hollywood movie makers must be to stretch a single book into three separate flicks. Good viewing? Absolutely. But all the eye candy in the world doesn't compensate for the fact that this is milking a text for all it's worth. Literally. I mean after all this a story that most of us Tolkien fans have read at the least a half dozen times. Has it taken any of us more than a few hours at most to get to Esgaroth? I really don't have anything else to submit. I did not do any research prior to going to the theater to avoid spoiling the experience. Suffice it to say, for me, it was a surprise ending. Will I dole out another 26 bucks (given the price of movie ticket doesn't go up, yeah right) to see Smaug finally get it? Of course I will. Does this ridiculous treatment of a classic irk me? You bet.
Amen. (2002)
A true Christian's path but why suicide?
I was very moved by this movie. The Vatican's resistance to denounce the holocaust, to whatever extent it might be true is the sub-plot, so-to-speak. The real story is about a man's faith and where it will lead him. The title itself reflects this thought. I was troubled by his decision to commit suicide. The act belies Kurt Gerstein's Christian beliefs. In his case the saving of life is a very strong conviction, even to his own peril. I'm saddened that he was not treated with more respect and trust by the allies. The movie sheds light on the many facets of his ordeal in a very dramatic way. The acting was superb and the historic authenticity was impeccable.
Brothers War (2009)
Wrong tanks? How about wrong flag?
I'm not a WWII historian. I do appreciate authenticity in movies about history. Especially movies about American history. I know what most people know about it. One thing I do know is that there were only 48 stars on the American flag in 1944-45. The scene in the American commander's quarters shows a 50 star flag hanging behind him. No, you can't quite count all the stars. But, the pattern of the array is of the post 1958 flag. Couldn't the prop department afford to go out and find a period-correct flag? I could forgive terrible special effects and a bad plot and stiff acting. But, the wrong flag! Low budget indeed!
The Deal (2008)
Not Funny?!
Not funny huh... "Benjamin Disraeli? What happened to Tony Blair?" - "...she throws like a girl!!" - "Hey guys thanks much, you're fired, great input though" - "....colonel America" - "...if you circumcised this movie it still couldn't be Jewish." - "...that's Bobbie's trailer, that's his gym and that's his mobile temple." LL Cool J in a Yarmukuh over a Du Rag: Moderately hysterical. William H. Macy's bare butt: Hysterical. Meg Ryan's choices in footwear: Priceless. Especially when compared to some other so called romantic comedies I've seen recently I was pleasantly surprised and entertained by this movie. Besides, Elliott Gould can make me laugh by just reading the phone book.
La Môme (2007)
Subtitles for Songs
I love biographies. I particularly love biographies of musicians, composers and singers. This movie was entirely frustrating in that there were no English subtitles during the musical performances. I am, of course, referring to the DVD release in the United States. It made absolutely no sense to me that the producers would choose to eliminate them. Her songs were mostly about the lyrics. Were we deprived because of some snobbery perhaps? I admit to being a tad cynical when it comes to foreign films. I suppose I can presume they wanted to lend a air of reality to these moments and not spoil them with text. I think I'm reaching on that one though. So, if anyone can answer for this puzzling choice I would appreciate it.
