Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Beauty and the Beast (1991) Review - 8.5/10
This is one of my favorite Disney animated films. The story was just wonderful and the music was defintely among the best in any musical ever! And the ending was the best, most warm-hearted, and satisfying endings a movie could have. Honestly, this is the movie that modern-day animated films should be measured by.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) Review - 7.8/10
Return of the Jedi is definitely the weakest movie of the original trilogy. That's not saying it was bad movie, it's not by any means, it's just bad compared to the first two films, which...how could it not be, those films are near-perfect. It was a fitting and satisfying end though, which resolved Darth Vader's story in a very nice and warm way.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Review - 9/10
Although it isn't my favorite film of the saga, The Empire Strikes back is an absolute classic, and is known as one of the greatest sequels in cinema history. And I admit that it's better structured than my favorite film in this movie series, A New Hope. I believe this is the movie that best showcases Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford's chemistry, as well, obviously, the best movie reveal of all-time (after Snape being revealed as the Half-Blood Prince, lol).
Star Wars (1977)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) Review - 8.9/10
This movie is my favorite thing to ever come out of the Star Wars Saga. I'm not saying it's better than Empire Strikes Back, this is just a film that was really entertaining, and it scores some extra points by being the first film in what is one of (if not) the most popular movie franchises of all-time. Overall, this is a very fun and enjoyable film and is my favorite Star Wars movie.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Captain Marvel (2019) Review - 7.3/10
This is one of the most underwhelming, anti-climactic films in the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which is sad because this is the first female-lead movie in the MCU. Captain Marvel has a fantastic class, full of award-winning actors, a pretty okay story, and okay writing. So why did I rate it so low? Because I was expecting so much more from this movie than what I got. And I'm not one of those people who hated this movie because it's cool to hate it on the internet. I dislike it because it's just like any other uninteresting superhero film.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) Review - 7.6/10
Unlike most people I enjoy this movie over the first one and I think it benefitted coming out after Avengers: Infinity War. I say this because after such a dark ending in Infinity War, a light-hearted movie was exactly what we needed. And I think this movie is just like the first, with everything dialed up to ten. In short, this film was funny and enjoyable enough. If I do have a complaint, it's that this movie had a very under-developed and uninteresting villain.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) Review - 9.4/10
This is one of the absolute best movies of 2018 and how it didn't win any Academy Awards is astonishing to me. I think this is Robert Downey Jr's best performance, and Thanos is definitely the best MCU villain to date. Also, the twist at the end was just perfect to set up Endgame, and the Guardians joining the Avengers was amazing. This movie was a perfect Avengers movie. And the action and storytelling is the best of any MCU flick.
Black Panther (2018)
Black Panther (2018) Review - 8.3/10
While I absolutely give this movie a positive review, I think it's one of the most overrated MCU movies. I just don't understand people hailing as one of the best films in the MCU. I'm not saying there's necessarily anything wrong with it, it's just not as great as some claim. With that out of the way, here are some positives! The score is amazing and it even won an Academy Award for this very reason. Also, Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan shine in this and it's one of their best performances, ever! Letitia Wright as Shuri is also very entertaining and she's one of my favorite MCU characters. Overall, this was a very good and rewatchable movie.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Review - 8.5/10
Thor: Ragnarok is a very well put together film in the MCU, and it saved the Thor trilogy from becoming comically bad. The comedic timing was amazing, and I think it's up there with Guardians Vol. 2 in terms of how funny it was. The action is amazing, and Taika Waititi was the perfect director for this movie. We really didn't know we wanted him until we got him. One complaint I have is that sometimes the humor undercuts some of the serious parts of the movie, but it's not too bad.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) Review - 8.4/10
This is one of the most underrated films in the entirety of the MCU. In my opinion, it's the funniest MCU film, the action isn't the best, but they make up for it with a compelling villain, in Ego. The score is even better than the first, in my opinion, and the only reason I don't think it's better than the original is some of it's charm is gone by now. Overall, I love this movie!
Doctor Strange (2016)
Doctor Strange (2016) Review - 8.3/10
I have to admit that I like this film better than most. And while I can understand some of the criticisms, I absolutely love this film. Especially the special effects, which are just top-notch in the MCU. Tilda Swinton and Benedict Cumberbatch also give great performances, which can only help. And Kaecilius is an underrated villain, played by the great, Mads Mikkelsen. In short, I have nothing but positive things to say about this movie.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Captain America: Civil War (2016) Review - 9/10
Captain America: Civil War is in my top five MCU films. This is a movie that I'd show to a person whenever they make fun of me for watching superhero movies. There's action, storytelling, amazing performances by all of the cast, and the Russo brothers in the director's seat. This film has just got it all. And the final fight is also one of the best, and emotional, in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
The Hateful Eight (2015) Review - 8.5/10
The Hateful Eight is one of Quentin Tarantino's most underrated films. Which is saying a lot because it was very well-received. With a star-studded cast, lots of gory action, and sweet Tarantino dialogue. One critique I hear people talk about when they're talking about this film is how long it is, which I can absolutely understand. But I think it works to the movie's favor, as the longer the movie goes on, the more tension builds up, which leads to an epic finale. Really, this is just a really good film.
Ant-Man (2015)
Ant-Man (2015) Review - 7.3/10
This is one of the most light-hearted additions to the MCU. But it is also a pretty meh addition. While it is definitely not a bad film, it just pales in comparison to some other MCU movies. And there's nothing really wrong with it, Darren Cross is an okay villain, Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly are all good in their respective roles. Overall, it's a pretty fun film and a good movie to watch with family.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Review - 8.3/10
This film isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. While the story isn't as good as the first Avengers, the acting is still just as good, the action is even better, and Ultron isn't a bad villain, he's just an under-developed one. Honestly, the action makes up for most of the flaws of this movie and it also set up a lot of MCU films, or at least foreshadowed a lot. Movies like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame, and Captain America: Civil War. Overall, this isn't a bad film, at all, but it is the weakest of The Avengers franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Review - 8.7/10
This is one of the funniest, well-written movies in the entirety of the MCU. Chris Pratt is amazing, as always, and the rest of the cast is not to be slept on. Even the professional wrestler, Dave Bautista was great in his role as Drax the Destroyer! This film was excellently casted, wonderfully acted, and let's not forget that score. One downfall is the villain, Ronan, but that's not enough to ruin this film. For Christ's sake this movie made me cry because a tree said "We are Groot!" That should tell you why this film is so beloved.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Review - 8.7/10
Definitely one of the best sequels in the entire MCU. It's everything you would expect and everything you could every ask for in a Captain America sequel. There's nazis, HYDRA, Nick Fury faking his freaking death, and action. Lots of fantastic Marvel action. This isn't just one of those films that are just 95% action, 5% storytelling, one of the things this films does best is balancing story with action. For example, the Winter Soldier and Steve have some of the best fights in the MCU, but whenever Steve finds out who the Winter Soldier is, it becomes not only an amazingly choreographed fight, but also an emotional one. In conclusion, this is the first truly great MCU sequel.
Her (2013)
Her (2013) Review - 8.7/10
This is one of my favorite Joaquin Phoenix films. It can be funny when it wants to, dramatic when it needs to be, and most importantly of all, satisfying. Driven by Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Scarlett Johansson's incredible performances, and lets not forget, Spike Jonze's directing. This film is as good as it could've been, which is great!
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Thor: The Dark World (2013) Review - 6.9/10
This is the film that most people consider to be the worst in the entire MCU. While I don't agree to that, it could've been a lot better. And perhaps it would've been better if Marvel just let Patty Jenkins do her thing. Nonetheless, the action and acting is pretty good, but the comedy is just cringe. The jokes just do not fit the dark nature of this film, which is something Marvel Studio's improved on in Thor: Ragnarok.
Iron Man Three (2013)
Iron Man 3 (2013) Review - 7.3/10
Although this film is an improvement over the last, it is still not that great. The Mandarin twist was actually pretty funny, I admit it, but he was shaping up to be a really good villain. Also, Aldrich Killian's backstory is something I just can't take seriously, which is another problem in this movie; it feels like a fan film. Not to discredit director, Shane Black, or any of the actors, I just wasn't feeling this movie. It wasn't that funny and it was a little too goofy at times. One good thing I will say about this flick is that the action (particularly the final fight) is probably the best in the Iron Man trilogy, to be honest.
The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers (2012) Review - 9.1/10
This is one of the absolute best MCU films and one of the few I've rated over 9/10. Loki, as a villain, is even better than he was in Thor, and this is one of RDJ's best performances as Iron Man. The action is also everything you'd expect from an ensemble-action flick. In summation, this is a very good film, to which I give a very good rating.
Thor (2011)
Thor (2011) Review - 7.4/10
Thor is a good enough film, but it definitely doesn't meet the standard of today's MCU movies. It's a bit slow at times and I don't like that 80% of the film took place on earth. One thing I did like was the ending, whenever Thor finally got his powers back and whenever he sacrificed never seeing Jane again by destroying the Brifrost bridge, so no one could travel outside of Asgard. Otherwise, it was a good film, but it also could've been better.
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Iron Man 2 (2010) Review - 6.6/10
This is the absolute worst MCU film. I don't think I can even sit through it again. Jon Favreau and the rest of the cast and crew aren't the problem, in my opinion, I think the film could've been a lot better if Marvel gave Favreau another year to write and develop a better story. This movie is just not it for me.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Inglourious Basterds (2009) Review - 9.3/10
One of my favorite films of all-time. Everything in this movie is just amazing. The score, the directing by Quentin Tarantino, Christoph Waltz and the rest of the cast. This movie is just everything you expect to see in a Tarantino movie. And don't even get me started about the opening. Literally 20 minutes of suspense, and it is breathtaking.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Spider-Man 3 (2007) Review - 7.3/10
I feel like this film gets a bad wrap. I don't think it's as bad as some people say, but it is easily the weakest of the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. There are one too many villains (Venom, Sandman, and sometimes Harry), the story is a bit convoluted, but so much as you don't know what's going on, it's just a bit much for a two-hour film. And something that makes it even more disappointing is that Sam Raimi had planned a Spider-Man 3 that was totally different and would've probably been really good. I'm not giving this film a negative rating by any means, as the cast is just as good as in the first film, it's just a bit much.
