One Night with the King (2006)
Satisfying, yet sub-par
One Night with the King offers a satisfying yet predictable storyline in which the acting leaves something to be desired. The dialog, particularly at the beginning is particularly terrible, though it does improve later on in the movie. I don't feel that Tiffany Dupont was a good fit for queen, especially in contrast with Luke Gross who was cast as king and really encompassed what a king should be.
Historically speaking, it was semi-accurate. I was very surprised at some of the dialog between male and female characters. While the movie portrayed the women as unequal to men, if the movie were true to the time period the separation would have been far greater. The most irritating factor for me, however, was the casting of Tommy Lister as the royal eunuch. A tall, burly man with a deep, booming voice is at the very, very end of my list in terms of men to cast as an eunuch. Though this detail will probably pass smoothly over the heads of viewers who have no sense of the history of the eunuch, or even what one is.
I also found it disturbing that they fell so deeply in love in such a short time, but to each his own.
All in all it was an okay movie that would satisfy the average movie-goer.
