The 39 Steps (2008)
Thank you for the cash.
No point of trying to make a better version of the original. Impossible. So the scriptwriter just had some fun and took the cash. It's so bad in every way.. however it's the lighting that wins the award for worst ever. It has 2 types light and dark. Avoid.
Genius: Picasso: Chapter Ten (2018)
Best episode of the series.
Episodes 1 to 9 are okay. Episode 10 is like a new director took over, it's more focused and entertaining, funny, sad and emotional. When Picasso imagines a happy end to his life.. powerful stuff.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Very unfair on Gone with the Wind.
Notice on the music on the clip from Gone with the Wind is changed from the original sad music, implying it is all a pathetic lost cause, to a more military and resolute backing implying a never give up attitude. Very unfair. GWTW is basically an anti-war movie. Shame on you Spike Lee. A cheap trick.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Monumental Art (2018)
Emotional and powerful documentary.
If you ever doubt the power of art, watch this. Truly an inspiration. You can tell all the people connected to Christo and Jeanne-Claude deeply cared about and loved the couple.
A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
The eyes!
It's his eyes that are wrong. They should be anything but black. Really.
Frankie Boyle's Tour of Scotland (2020)
Brilliant intelligent humour. However not for the feeble minded or easily offended.
A masterpiece of TV. This guy does not hold back.
Did anyone at the BBC actually watch this before broadcast?
The "brake cables" gag! I had to pause and realize what he had just said.
The first episode was actually quite mild. I bet that was on purpose.
He knew the BBC would only watch the 1st episode.
The Genius of Photography (2007)
Best documentary series on photography.
Easily the best documentary series on the history of photography.
Plus has great voice over, great music.
This is the template for how to make a documentary series.
Brexit: The Uncivil War (2019)
The better team won.
Essential viewing for anyone wanting to know about Brexit and how the UK ended up with Boris as PM.
Genius Dominic Cummings completely outplays the arrogant, old fashioned Craig Oliver (Britain Stronger in Europe) to bring victory to the outsider "Vote Leave" campaign. Not so much about who was right and who was wrong. Just the better team won on the day.
I always assumed Brexit was mainly due to young people who wanted to remain
but didn't actually vote on the day, as they were too busy checking Social Media that day (and everyday).
But as this film shows, it was much more than that. Many undecided or apathetic voters were motivated by "Vote Leave" and the slogan "Take back Control"
to actually go out and vote leave. Without that "Vote Leave" would never have won.
