Collateral Beauty (2016)
Wow, talk about beauty.
This movie was a complete surprise in that I didn't expect to love it. Not long into it I figured out the hook, but it was all well done and completely worth my time. Beautiful piece of artwork. Cathartic, poignant, emotional. Well done.
Limitless: Brian Finch's Black Op (2015)
Save Brian! Very funny episode!
Any millennials watching this may completely miss why this is one of the funniest episodes of any TV series watched this year so far. In my household the Baby Boomers, Gen Xer and Millennial have all been subjected to multiple viewings of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and that set the foundation for much laughter watching Brian Finch's Black Op. We've seen homages to Ferris before, but somehow this one fit perfectly. We love when a drama steps out of the formula and has some fun. See the original CSI and also Supernatural for how to do it right. From the first minute when we realized what direction the episode was taking to the last hysterical second we were all engaged. The attention to detail, so funny. We had to pause the DVR again and again so as not to miss anything over the laughing and the giddy cries of "OMG, did you get that?!?!"
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Lost & Found (2010)
The writers should be fired! Horrible.
I'm a big fan of CSI but this episode was pathetic. What kind of father would have done what we're expected to believe this character did? He comes home to find out that his teen aged daughter has killed her little brother, that she's been raped by her uncle (his brother in law) and is pregnant by the creep, and what does this father do? He puts his son's body into a foot locker in the garage, stages their disappearance and sets up housekeeping in another town where he pretends to be her husband? Ludicrous. I'm all for suspension of disbelief for entertainment but c'mon! First things first, he'd want to kill the brother in law, or at the very least turn him in. No self respecting father would just let that pedophile off scott free. Why wouldn't he call the cops to report his son's death? It was an accident by a traumatized teen who had just been raped. She wouldn't have done any time and again, pedophile bro in law goes to jail. And playing house in Reno acting like his daughter's husband is seriously creepy. They had changed their names, assumed new identities, why not just say he's her father in the new life? Sad, sad, sad and lazy writing. Did the writers take a vacation and leave some daytime soap wannabe writer to take the reins? My husband and I could write better than this poor rip off of an episode of Maury. We were incredulous at how low this great show has sunk. Just horrible.
Supernatural: Changing Channels (2009)
Parodying the guilty pleasure shows, how appropriate!
Our favorite brothers held captive in TV Land by a Trickster, and Castiel is helpless to save them. This is one of the more comedic oriented episodes that is a refreshing way for the show to make clear that they don't take themselves too seriously. My husband and I must have replayed this episode a dozen times just for the pseudo CSI:Miami scenes alone. Mind you we *HATE* Caruso in CSI:Miami, making fun of it on every occasion, and Sam (aka Jared Padalecki) had "Horatio" down to perfection. The writers / actors were also dead on with the "Dr. Sexy" / Grey's Anatomy scenes, the Japanese game show and all the rest, exploiting what is ludicrous yet memorably addictive about these shows. Supernatural continues to be fun, innovative, thought provoking and imaginative entertainment. We LOVE this show!! It is our personal Guilty Pleasure!!
