Defiance (2013)
They killed Eureka...
For this mess. SyFy is packed with something less than morons.
Eureka (2006)
Eureka needs...
A movie. A two hour TV movie. OK, *I* need to visit these people again.
That "SyFy" (WTF name is that?!) canned this amazing show for "Defiance" (what a train wreck) remains one of network TV's dumber acts.
Geostorm (2017)
Propaganda
Literally, this is a 120 million dollar left wing propaganda film. If you can get past the hysterical GlowbullClimateWarmingCoolingChangey stuff then...
You get crazy science that only a lefty looking for something to prop up his fantasy would believe. But if you can get past that then...
There's the ham-fisted writing and the hit-and-miss acting and the predictable "surprises". But if you can get past that, then...
Did I mention the crazy left-wing propaganda and psycho-science?
OK, we'll, the FX are what you'd expect for a 120 million dollar Hollyweird hot mess and they are pretty to look at.
That's really all there is to this thing.
The Grasshopper and the Ants (1934)
Typical Disney
Beautifully animated for the time, and pointlessly changes the entire story meaning. In the fable the grasshopper pays for his irresponsibility and laziness. Here he gets a free pass because it feels good. No lesson learned. No responsibility taken. Pretty much perfect for our times when you think about it.
Is That a Gun in Your Pocket? (2016)
Bloomberg Propaganda
I mean that literally. Funded by the usual suspects in the anti-gun fringe, this..."movie"...is free of story, character and plot. It's purely a message piece, pushing the obvious agenda and inviting the use of force...or passive/aggressive bullying...to achieve the goal. I will admit I wonder, though, did they really understand just how few people would willing see this thing? Less than 40k recouped at the Box Office. Surely they had hoped, even as they knew it would lose a lot of money, that it would not fail that badly?
If you can find a way to watch it for free, a way that does not put one dime back in the propagandists pockets, then it's worth it to see just how bizarrely out of touch the left is with, well...reality. Otherwise, just be happy you dodged a bullet.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
If you want to see...
How far Emmerich's politics have slid(degenerated?) to the left over the years go watch ID4, then watch this bloated train wreck. Or you can just ask him why it took so long for him to produce this mess; he'll happily explain it to you with no understanding of shame at all.
But I thought, hey, I wade thru all the rest of Hollyweird's politics, I can survive Emmerich just because of what this is. Well, I could have...but there's nothing else there except a lot of CG that at times may actually not look as good as the original.
Even if you don't mind his politics, watching this thing is basically like having all your good memories of ID4 gutted with a dull alien blade... Just go watch the original and save yourself the pain.
Minority Report (2002)
More a review of a review
I stumbled upon a review by "spleen" and had to shake my head. This person dismisses Saving Private Ryan as a bad movie, then praises the horrid "AI" and equates this to the latter. In that at least he's correct, both AI and this are...less than stellar.
His title is some blather about "rare good sci fi", when good sci fi is in fact not rare and this is not good science fiction. He then also entirely misses the issue of giving up freedom for safety, seeing only the precogs as being the losers rather than all of us. THEN, to top it off he pans the Blade Runner presentation of the future in favor of this as the superior vision and manages to insinuate a none too subtle attack on the US justice system as well.
It's stunning the garbage some people will produce on these boards...even this movie deserves better.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Revenge of The RoboBalls
The excuses for this thing at this late date are that we shouldn't have expected Shakespeare. True. And I didn't. I expected mindless entertainment like the first one. What we GOT was bad humor, cheap sight gags, FX that were maybe not as good as the first and way to much Meghan Fox. This was bad movie making even by the "standards" of the first one and that it made so much money is, as with that horrid "Avatard", a sad comment on the movie-going public.
I don't expect people to like the same things. I don't expect elitist "Theater" for summer fun. Bbut I do expect the makers to try for something good and it would be nice if the people buying the tickets wouldn't when they are presented with crap like this.
Punisher: War Zone (2008)
Get the DVD of Thomas Jane's "Punisher" and forget this mess
It's trash. It cost 35 million to make and 12 to market and made 10 million at the BO, domestic and overseas total. It even flopped in DVD sales. In other words, it couldn't even get all the Punsiher fan-boys out to look at it, let alone anyone else.
While War Zone is not the biggest flop ever in actual dollars, certainly, I do wonder how close it is to the biggest flop ever in percentage of budget recovered. Only slightly more than 20% gross of costs earned back at the box office. Slightly more than that in DVD sales gross. About 22 million total. Figure the studio got about 60% of the theater take and around 50% of the DVD take so they recouped about 11 million total of almost 50 million spent... Only one fifth of their investment regained because they listened to the fan-boys cry they wanted to see more heads rolling around and less confusing things like story and character development.
Does it get worse than that? Probably, but would you really want to watch anything that bad? It's two hours of your life and ten bucks from the bargain bin that you can never get back. Don't punish yourself.
Captain EO (1986)
Well Mike DID...
...still have a nose.
Other than that, lemme see, the effects are dated. The acting is horrible. James Horner should be ashamed. Lucas and the rest HAD to be on some bad drugs...
The main value of this thing is as a sad piece of history serving as a reminder to us all that the creature we see on tabloids today was once Michael Jackson. Probably one of the most talented people ever to come along and, then, with a future so bright nobody could imagine where he'd go...
...certainly we never imagined where he'd wind up.
