The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
To 851222 from Lithuania
I hit the wrong key in attempting to give a "thumbs up" to your review. Your comments were very correct and express my sentiments exactly. This movie has to be one of my 3 favorite movies, if not my actual favorite movie of all time. I just want to apologize for hitting the wrong key and agree whole-heartedly that The Best Years of Our Lives is, for me, a definite 10/10 and a true masterpiece.
Since my comments were too brief for this site, let me add that I agree, as well, with the reviewer from Lithuania, that Teresa Wright gave a marvelous performance and certainly should have had all of the males of the day thoroughly smitten with her.
Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941)
A Perfectly Marvelous Film (and I hit the wrong key)
With specific reference to A_Different_Drummer: I hit the wrong key and meant to agree with your review. In fact, it's one of the best, most insightful, and heartfelt reviews I've read. Now, as to the movie, everything clicked perfectly in this film: the stars, the supporting players, the sets, the costumes, the sparkling and dead-on dialogue (no pun intended), and even the absolutely abysmal alto saxophone playing. No, they don't and, I am convinced, can't make movies like this anymore. Unfortunately, if they could, I fear that no one, but we oldsters could enjoy it anyway. I agree, too, that the blackout scene was very moving, but, alas, not being a hunter, I'll have to find another way to assert my manliness. Definitely 10/10!
Tales of Wells Fargo: Return to Yesterday (1962)
Talk about egoists!
This is directed to "sandcrab277": clearly, that individual is incapable of enjoying an old TV series for its entertainment value and is unable to separate the writer's and director's perspective from that of the actor playing the role. One can but hope that that reviewer confined his or her comments to this one entity.
As to the series itself, it was much better suited to the half-hour format and did not adapt well to stretching it's usually crisp story line over a span of fifty-odd minutes.
