Fall (2022)
Horribly predictable
This movie was literally a knock-off of The Descent (2005). The same storyline, same "adventure gone wrong", not joking when I say EVERYTHING was the same except for the activity they were doing. No creativity went into this film at all. The acting was absolutely horrible and the circumstances were completely unrealistic. It absolutely felt like a D quality movie.
This type of movie has been done so many times over and it's recycled material. I find it hard to believe so many people left reviews about it being "profound". Anyone who has watched movies similar to this one would know it's a waste of time.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
We need a prequel with the story of Jane Doe!
This film is a perfect balance of old and modern horror. If you're looking for gore or jump scares, this isn't the movie for you.
The thrill of discovering who Jane Doe is makes you wonder what happened to her. I feel like there is so much more to the story, without feeling like anything was missing. I would love to see a prequel to this, with the same sense of slow building horror.
This is very similar to James Wan's and Mike Flanagan's style of horror, so I'm not sure why so many are unimpressed. The purpose was to be on the same path of discovery as the main characters, which is absolutely does. You see and feel their fear, which is a nod to classic horror.
Queen of the Damned (2002)
You only love it for Aaliyah and the soundtrack
I remember watching this movie when it came out and loving it. I was also pretty young. In a moment of nostalgia, I decided to watch it again and see if it was as good as I remembered it to be. It was not, at all. As someone who loves horror movies, this definitely misses the mark. Nothing is appealing about it except the soundtrack and of course, the beautiful late Aaliyah being the queen.
The storyline and acting is horrible and cannot compare to Interview with the Vampire. The main vampire, Lestat is meant to have sexual appeal and he does not. He's like a random extra they threw a wig on and told him to act sexy. Even Gary Oldman had more sexual appeal in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Most vampire films and even in books, they're meant to have an appeal and charm to them, which entices people to be around them. This was not it.
I feel as though a lot of people based their review on the nostalgia of the alternative rock scene at the time and being able to see Aaliyah, as she was one of the most popular musicians of the late 90s/early 2000s. It's a movie in a time capsule basically. Other than that, for what the movie is, it's actually horrible. You know it is, and it is okay to say that. This is definitely one of those movies you watch again in 20 years to reminisce and remind yourself why it sucked.
Fargo (2014)
If you love anthologies, this is for you!
The first two seasons are very much inspired by the original Fargo and amazing! Billy Bob Thornton steals the first season and the entire cast of the second season is great. The third season is honestly a season you can skip over. The way they tried to incorporate it into the storyline was very odd and although it has talented actors such as Ewin McGregor and David Thewlis, there wasn't really characters you could latch onto like the first two seasons. The storyline also fell flat for me. The fourth season doesn't meet the tone of the first two seasons, but is very good on it's own. A very talented Jessie Buckley fits her role perfectly. Must watch show if you love offbeat black comedies!
Room 104 (2017)
Beginning seasons are boring, does get better though
The first season was very dull and many of the episodes were nonsensical, maybe one or two were pretty good. I'm the type to give shows another chance to see if maybe it's not me understanding something and I'm glad I did. The second season was better, the third and fourth are a lot better. It does seem that they are now enlisting actors and directors with more credibility for the series. What is not mentioned in a lot of the reviews is that the series is an anthology series. If you enjoy something different every episode and have a hard time following along with regular shows, I would definitely recommend this one. You never know what the next episode is going to be. Excited to see more of it.
Room 104: Rogue (2019)
One of the better episodes
Since this series can be considered an anthology series, it is hit and miss. This is one of the more entertaining episodes of the series in that it combines sci-fi with drama effectively. There is not too much of either. It's only 30 minutes, but feels like a part of a full length movie since they provide the context of the situation so well. The relationship and meaning is very beautiful. A must watch.
