A Gentleman in Moscow (2024)
Excellent Series so far
To address all of the other concerns about too much D&I, yes I agree that it's a bit unnecessary and distracting. I had to stop and look up to see if this was normal for the period in Russia so I could better understand the characters and their interaction with each other. And it took a while to try to understand everyone's place and that race does not appear to be a factor.
But if you are able to look past this and just follow the story line without getting distracted by race, it's an excellent series. It's incredibly engaging and entertaining.
I do wish I would have known this before starting to watch as it would have made the story flow a little easier.
On to the series. It's really good! I love the script and the acting.i had no idea of the recent history of Russia.
Station Eleven (2021)
Art for art's sake
This series started off so promising, but is beyond terrible. I get the idea that with any series or movie you have to suspend disbelief. But this goes beyond that.
The writers would have the audience believe that in 20 years, there's been very little attempt to rebuild infrastructure, return essential and modest "luxuries" that mankind has gotten used to for the last 150 year? Yet an outdated and completely unrelatable Shakespearean play becomes the only thing that matters to almost all of the main characters. Both the players and audience somehow are willing to put their lives on the line for Hamlet, but not modern amenities? And somehow a glorified sci-fi comic book becomes like a Bible to at least two of the main characters.
But even if the story line wasn't absurd, the dialogue is ridiculous. They speak in prose and innuendo so frequently that as the person watching you constantly have to figure out what's going on.
Thunder Force (2021)
Another funny McCarthy movie
If you are looking for a high quality film in this, you've been living under a rock fir the last 29 years. If you are looking for a good chuckle, watch this movie.
Uncut Gems (2019)
The idea of the movie was OK, the execution left a bit to be desired
First I don't recommend you watch this right before bed. It's 2 almost straight hours of characters screaming at each other. As I got to the halfway point I felt my heart racing, my teeth grinding and I found myself pacing around.
This film performs at 100 mph for the entire duration. It's not 2 hours of action, it's just 2 hours of mindless bickering and talking over each other. From the first 5 minutes I just wanted it to be over. It took me over an hour to wind down and fall asleep after it was over. Never in the history of watching movies, has anything evoked such a physical and uncomfortable response as this movie.
People said there was no story line, there was. And had it been delivered with a bit a better execution and some breaks it could have been watchable.
Dripping in Chocolate (2012)
Terrible Terrible Terrible
I saw a decent rating so I decided to watch this movie. There is nothing redeeming about it. The acting is awful. The plot is unbelievable. The script is terrible. Essentially chocolates from one independent, random chocolate shop show up next to all of the victims and all of the suspects. That's how they solve the crime, follow the chocolate. And the woman who makes the chocolate randomly runs into the lead detective everywhere, so he just includes her in some of his questioning of suspects. Makes total sense. These chocolates make more appearances than the lead actors. Dumbest movie ever.
