Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
Another great sequel.
A long movie that entertained me from the beginning to the end. Those who aren't fans of the franchise might think this movie is tiring and feel a bit lost along the way, but it's definitely a good movie in my opinion.
It's funny, it mixes and balances elements of many different movie genres very competently like the previous titles and it could have been the end of the franchise. The battles became more epic, the challenges harder and the risks bigger than ever. The amazing soundtrack and special effects make the experience even richer.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
A great sequel!
The movie keeps the good quality of the first movie and introduces us to a new story, very well linked to what we saw in the first movie. The development of the characters continue, the new challenges are intriguing, introducing new, complex characters such as the villain. Again the story surprises in many moments, in my opinion, it's not a predictable movie. The interactions between the characters, the environment, the soundtrack and the story are very good. This movie mixes elements of comedy, adventure and romance greatly. An awesome title for an awesome franchise.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
The beginning of a great franchise!
The story and the characters are original and interesting, the soundtrack and visual effects are amazing and the different scenarios in ships, islands and taverns do take us back in time. It's a very funny movie, with thrilling moments, using a wide range of different elements that configure comedy, adventure, horror and even historic/war elements. The acting is very good and even support characters are interesting and have their own development.
Despicable Me (2010)
Different, new and funny!
I love this movie. There are so many original elements such as the minions, such as the protagonist being a "villain" and behaving like an anti hero and the girls, each one of them with their own personality.
I love how main or support characters in this movie are not just plain or generic, each one has a different style and mindset of their own and their influence on the main story.
The animation is delightful, the soundtrack is very good and the story is interesting and fun to watch.
Megamind (2010)
Funny, clever and emotional.
It's a movie that brings up many interesting sociological and philosophical subjects in a very funny way. The animation is very well made, the soundtrack is well used and the characters are complex, as well as their interactions.
There are many references in the movie that make it richer. The action scenes are dynamic and pleasant to watch, the story is surprising and the movie breaks many cliches in many aspects. It's not a childish story with basic messages.
The pace of the story is very good, never too slow or too fast. Really fun to watch and re-watch, I wish I had seen more titles of this franchise.
Seinto Seiya: Meiô Hâdesu jûnikyû-hen (2002)
Incredible, I love how Saint Seiya evolved with time.
This chapter is very good in story, art, fights and characters, the soundtrack is intense, emotional and amazing. I think the only critic I have is that some characters who are introduced as important end up being ignored or just abandoned, having a poor closing and a poor development: in fact, I think that these characters either shouldn't be used or if used, used properly, it feels like they're there just because they have to appear in the show, their actions are forgettable and their relevance to the story is very poor. By the other hands, the main characters get the attention, development and the respect they deserve. I really wish I had more of some characters.
Ender's Game (2013)
Amazing!
The impression I got is that a very complex, big story had to be condensed in one movie. In my opinion, it did a great job. I find the movie's pace very good, the relations between the characters are very realistic and the psychological drama is very well built. I felt there were some important parts that were eclipsed along the movie that eventually just get mentioned, I wish those parts were there but I fear it could have made the movie too long. Maybe if this big story had been separated in 2 or 3 movies, elements that were excluded could have been developed more, but it's hard to say, I really love this movie the way it is and I really wanted to see more titles, the story is very good and the characters' ideals are very well portrayed.
Click (2006)
Funny with an interesting, surprising story.
It's very common to see comedy movies focusing too much on the jokes and forgetting about the story, but in this movie, the jokes make the experience through the story richer and funnier. I had fun watching it, the movie doesn't just made me laugh but it also made me think about my life, about my choices, about how important is to live each day of your life, knowing every moment is part of it, and that we also are responsible for making our moments good. What matters is the journey after all. Of course there are some jokes that could be offensive to some, and I agree certain stereotypes do get tiring, but it's a comedy movie, it doesn't take itself seriously all the time.
Superhero Movie (2008)
I really liked this move, it made me laugh and the story is interesting.
In my opinion, it's a very well made parody of many classic superhero titles. Of course you won't get the references if you never watched a Spiderman movie, an X-Men movie or a Batman movie, but if you at least know those franchises, then the references will make the movie a lot richer.
The jokes are funny, the acting is funny, the movie doesn't take itself seriously and it's light, things are supposed to be exaggerated and comical and it's great that way. It's a movie for you to relax and....just laugh and have some fun.
Shazam! (2019)
Light, fun and inspiring.
Shazam has everything a superhero movie needs, captivating characters, good fights, scary moments, story and an original style. To me, the protagonist breaks the cliche in many aspects, making the movie experience different from the classic approach superhero movies normally have. We get to see the growth of the main characters, the supporting ones aren't there just for show, they actively influence the story and the interactions between them is very realistic.
If I had to improve something, it would be the CGI in certain moments and, in my view, the way the protagonist's personality seems to change when he uses his powers, I guess that wasn't supposed to sound that way. The acting is great, the movie explores very important subjects like family, friendship, responsibility and acceptance in a very genuine way, I loved it. To me, it's a movie to be watched and re watched many times, it will always be fun and light.
Naruto: Shippûden (2007)
An inspiring anime with amazing characters.
I'll synthesize: too many fillers.
Naruto Shippuden is an amazing anime, the Naruto franchise is amazing per se, it managed to build an incredible world, inspiring characters, complex plots and sub plots while being dramatic, funny, interesting, sad and surprising.
It could have been more objective though. Many important events of the story get interrupted by fillers, minor stories that run away from the main story. I have seen animes with good fillers, however, in Naruto Shippuden, they are, in my opinion, boring, introducing many characters who aren't well developed, bringing fights that just make the protagonists run in circles, with basically zero development in the meantime. When I say the problem is fillers...I really mean it, too many fillers, fillers beyond comprehension. Some events in the anime took over one year to unfold in real life as the episodes were exhibited, specially during the Ninja War arc, there were too many long sequences of battles that didn't add anything to the story, the quality of the animation fell and many important characters were simply forgotten. As episodes passed, the main story is more and more focused only in Naruto and Sasuke, and the other characters who were being developed and advancing in their journey got "suspended". Also, the story seem to have abandoned some of its own messages along the go. It's a very fun to watch, inspiring anime, the fans will have a lot of content to enjoy, from episodes to video games, it's one of my favorites and I think it will always be.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
I don't know what happened.
I love Harry Potter movies, but I don't know what happened to this one. The first Fantastic Beasts movie was amazing, I love it, however, this one seems like an endless intermission between big events of the past and big upcoming events. The moments and facts we want to see either didn't happen yet or are just mentioned in the past, in a quick flashback or mention. Some references are really out of place and...the characters seem to go nowhere, walking in circles. When watching, I got confused about where the characters were and who was talking about who, and I'm a Harry Potter fan. In my opinion, someone who didn't read the books or who isn't a very observant Harry Potter fan will get very lost watching this movie. Also, the movie starts skipping some events I think that would have been interesting to be seen on screen, like, a lot of things happened between the first movie and this one, but we only get mentions loose along the movie. The characters are very interesting, the acting is great and so is the CGI, the creatures are perfect and all the magic is very realistic, but in general, I found the movie too dark. I understand the importance of light and colors to build different environments, however, there were parts all the darkness made the movie experience poorer for me, in my opinion. Most Harry Potter fans will like it because of the magic world, the creatures, the spells, however, I found this movie really slow and they seem to try to bring up many separate storylines at the same time and...they don't connect very well, I felt like I was watching bits of different stories put together into a movie. As an intermission between great events, as the part of a big sequence of episodes, it's an okay movie, but I think it had so much potential to be greater. I love this franchise but just mentioning important references and characters won't make people like it, there are so many great characters there that could be invested in, have their background stories explored for real, with the proper development, but all we get are fragments and references. Okay, I understand that this movie is just a part of a sequence of episodes and it's not a "climax part" of main story, however, it doesn't work well on it's own.
I really want this franchise to get all the love, quality and respect it deserves.
One Punch Man: Wanpanman (2015)
Funny, full of action and different
Normally the hero has to start from square one in order to gain more power to achieve their objectives while being full of energy and well, One Punch Man's premise is just the opposite. This cliche-break makes the anime really interesting, in season 1 the animation is very good, the characters are very interesting, the anime is funny and there are so many captivating sub plots that every episode is fun and rewarding in its own way. However, in season 2 the animation got worse, the storyline got super slow and the anime sort of "lost a bit of life" in my opinion. I don't know what happened, I just know it's not as funny, there are many boring sequences, some texture and sound effects lost quality. I really love this anime, I think it deserves more. I hope the upcoming seasons will recover the quality season 1 has.
Dokutâ Sutôn (2019)
Amazing anime with science in the spotlight!
The animation, the music, the direction, the voice acting, the characters, everything is amazing about this anime. The plot is very intelligent, it definitely inspires people to study or get curious about science, the characters are captivating and the protagonist is very original when comparing to the typical brave, reckless energetic stereotypes.
It gives the sensation you get when you play a survival game where you need to build everything bit by bit. As the story advances, things will connecting like a puzzle and the emotion it emanates is amazing. This anime manages to be funny when it has to be and very serious when it has to be. Intelligence is the main weapon here and the characters who have more social skills, information and determination will definitely have a big advantage in the Doctor Stone world.
