Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Was I supposed to laugh?
Good idea, bad movie. Far from being a comedy. The lines were dreadful, the acting could have been much more better, the plot was insignificant and there was nothing to laugh about. People got used to laugh about silly things, American simple jokes, but THIS IS NOT HUMOUR. Olive is naive, the silly girl who wishes to be a model, like other one hundred thousand girls from America, and this is indeed a funny thing to laugh about: Americans make fun of themselves. Olive's family is mediocre, her parents can't come to an agreement and they argue in her presence (the ice-cream scene), making her desolated and confused. There is another funny thing: Olive's family should have known that she would have had slight chances to win the beauty contest because she was FAT and not so beautiful. And what was with all the striptease performance? Her parents weren't even curious to see what will she do at the talent competition? No! They didn't! They left that part to that dirty old grandfather to teach her, so of course what she did had to be something pervert and unapproriate for the Little Miss Sunshine!
Candy (2006)
Love will never survive in the life of drugs
Here is the story of a teen couple, who struggle to have a family and live life together. There are some violent scenes, which reflect the reality, and that is what makes the movie a fine drama. I watched it because I was curious to see Ledger acting as a drug-addict, and I think he did pretty well his job, and Abbie, too. It lasted a bit longer than I expected, all the action it was very extended and I got bored at the middle. I wouldn't watch this movie for a second time, but I've seen worse films than this one. It was educative in its way, and young teenagers will see the real life of drugs, which is not a joke, a dream, nothing fun, and obviously not to play with it, because it can ruin your life.
Hannibal (2001)
Great psychological movie
Ridley Scott's screening is obviously a great movie. Hannibal Lecter is a legendary character. I was fascinated about the relationship between Dr. Lecter and Agent Starling. It's strange how a killer, who eats his victims with such a serene face can have this attraction to Starling. Clarice Starling has a dilemma: on one hand she is the incorruptible FBI agent, who wants her job back - which means capturing Hannibal, and on the other hand she absolutely worships Dr. Lecter's intelligence: 'Tell me, Clarice, would you ever tell me "Stop" ? If you loved me.... "stop" ?' 'Not in a thousand years' Professional killers like Hannibal Lecter shall never be in FBI's hands, and Clarice Starling shall always love H.L. I would really enjoy a "Silence of the Lambs 3", of course with Anthony Hopkins starring Hannibal Lecter.
Killing Me Softly (2002)
Living intense...
Alice had lived a boring, full of routine life with a boyfriend with whom she felt quite "comfortable". That was, at least, until she met Adam. It's like she had waited for such a man to rescue her, to live an adventure, to do unusual things in unusual places. Adam is an extrovert man, but also mysterious....It's that mystery that leads Alice to investigate things related to his past, suspecting that he had done something undignified in his past. The whole movie is woven with intrigues, and the love/sex scenes are to be remembered. This movie is delicious, I watched all the details, and most of all I liked Heather Graham. She is so delicate, this role suited her very well.
Lolita (1997)
An eccentric, sensual, sinful love...
I think "Lolita" is an exceptional screening. You don't know who seduces who: Lolita seduces Humbert or vice versa. The attraction exists in both sides but for Lolita is just a game, she acts like if she met the love of her life, but she is only infatuated...Everything falls apart when Lolita is seduced by another man, and eventually she marries with a young man, lives in a poor house, and all her beauty disappears with the passing of the years... Lolita is an illusion, just a fallacious appearance of love. She is a devil, she tortures, she plays, she kills, she is a "nymphet". "Lolita" dramatizes the tragic consequences of Humbert's obsession with the young heroine. It is a controversial story, I admire Nabokov for his originality and courage to write about a impossible, prejudiced relationship.
