Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil (1991)
Really good slasher film.
I really love PROM NIGHT IV. It is a very dark film and is well shot with decent acting. The special effects are really quite good and I just find it really cool. It's my favourite of the series.
Halloween Kills (2021)
I enjoyed it.
Film takes place on the same night as the 2018 film much like the original HALLOWEEN II does and its beautifully shot. The film looks alot different from the 2018 film visually and I loved the flashback scenes and the Myers house sets. The gore, makeup and deaths were very well done. Some of it wasn't perfect and could of been better, but it's a crazy, full on film and I actually enjoyed it more than the 2018 film. I also loved all the nods to all the previous films in the series.
The Fog (1980)
Wonderful early John Carpenter classic.
The Fog is an amazing film. It is incredibly moody and atmospheric. Beautifully shot and has some great acting by its excellent cast. The look and feel of the film is wonderful and the score by Carpenter is fantastic and one of his best. I really love this film. And if you appreciate horror, you will love it too.
Friday the 13th (2009)
Slick and stylish but a really bad film.
This film is awful. Too much sex and nudity and the acting is atrocious. Amanda Righetti is an awful final girl. I wanted Jason to kill all of these hideous characters. The score is not memorable like the other, older films in the franchise and the film introduces new plot elements that just don't work. This is a remake of the first 4 'Friday' films and it is such a let down and missed opportunity. The filmmakers could have made an amazing film but instead they gave us this. This "reboot" makes "Jason Goes To Hell" look like a masterpiece. Really disappointed.
Child's Play 2 (1990)
Nothing special.
Chucky tracks Andy down and continues to stalk him.
Sequel is OK but nothing really special. The film's biggest flaw in my opinion is that the film has no likeable characters. The only semi-likeable character is Kyle but actress Christine Elise's performance is nothing special. If anything, she under acts. She just does not seem too phased at the events going on around her. If I was being stalked by a homicidal living doll I would have more emotion. The film's budget is healthy and the special effects are good and the film has an overlong but fun climax. It's just fair.
Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990)
Not as good as the first 3 films, but quite enjoyable.
Psycho IV explores Norman and his mother's twisted relationship.
I like this film quite a lot. A few things bothered me about it though. I didn't like how Joseph Stefano's script ignored Psycho II and III. If Stefano had watched those films he would have realised that the Mrs Spool story arc that was introduced in Psycho II was neatly wrapped up in Psycho III and he could have acknowledged it. Mrs. Spool killed Norman's father in a jealous rage. In this film it is revealed that he died from a reaction to bee stings. It wouldn't have been hard to acknowledge the previous films and I didn't like how he disrespected those film's by ignoring them when, frankly, they are better than Psycho IV. Also, there are a few other minor mistakes. I do really like the film though. Its really good watching Anthony Perkins, CCH Pounder and Olivia Hussey. And the film is entertaining. Psycho IV is a good film, but I like the first three films more. This is 50 times better than the awful 1998 remake though.
When a Stranger Calls (1979)
Really great and suspenseful horror thriller.
"When a Stranger Calls" has one of the best opening scenes in the history of horror films. The middle part of the film is slow but I throughly enjoyed this. Fred Walton is a marvellous film maker. This film's made for TV sequel is fantastic also.
Halloween (2007)
Oh my God...
Not the worst remake I have seen but a missed opportunity. The film is very vulgar and very different than the original HALLOWEEN. I did find it interesting but it could have been a lot better than it was. Thankfully HALLOWEEN (2018) started fresh and ignored this and it's sequel.
Halloween (2018)
Really good sequel and really well made.
HALLOWEEN is a really well made sequel to "Halloween". The film gets better with each viewing and has really grown on me. The film is exciting and features some great performances, especially by Jamie Lee Curtis. Michael is really brutal in this one and the film is quite moody and dark. I am really looking forward to the next two sequels. Its amazing how this film, "Halloween 11" is the highest grossing slasher film of all time and broke all these records. The filmmakers really got this film right and it is a huge improvement over the last few Halloween films . Probably the best sequel, although not my absolute favourite. I really love the relationship between Laurie and her granddaughter Allyson. The film is great.
Slumber Party Massacre III (1990)
Not a bad little slasher flick
I didn't expect much from this film and I really enjoyed it. I found it entertaining with some cool gore effects. Yes it is just a rehash of the first film, but has some twists and turns and I have seen far worse acting. The characters were quite likable also. And for a film with such a low budget, I thought the filmmakers did a really good job.
Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995)
A really good sequel.
"Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest" is a very good sequel in the series. It has good acting, a good script and is entertaining with some well executed death scenes. The film's biggest let down are the special effects in the climax.
I really like this film and it is a pretty decent entry in the "Children of the Corn" series.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Underrated. I love this macabre horror film.
I love Michael Myers, but I love the horror genre more. And this is a great horror film.
I really enjoy this film. It is moody and dark with a twisted plot and, although the story isn't perfect, it's pretty good in my opinion.
The only things that I didn't like were the romance (and sex scenes) between Dan (Tom Atkins) and Ellie (Stacey Nelkin), the Stonehenge element in the plot and the time difference for the Silver Shamrock commercial - different states have different time zones so Cochran's plan wouldn't have worked in killing every one.
The actors are passable in their roles, the cinematography is beautiful and atmospheric, the film has a few gruesome deaths and a knock-your-socks-off score. Also, I find it very entertaining.
Just watch it as "Season of the Witch" and not "Halloween III" and you may just enjoy it.
I love it. 🙂
Fiancé Killer (2018)
Predictable and dumb.
A deranged couple try to kill a young woman who has just come into her inheritance by having the man marry her and then kill her on their honeymoon.
Although the film held my interest, it was predictable and dumb at times and had some bad performances.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
This is an excellent film.
While not perfect, "Halloween-H2O: 20 Years Later is a wonderful sequel in the HALLOWEEN series.
Michael Myers finds Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) after 20 years and goes after her and her son John (Josh Hartnet). It is then up to Laurie to face her biggest fears and stop him once and for all.
"H2O" has a great opening scene and an action packed climax. The film's budget is the largest of any HALLOWEEN film to date and because of this, the film has some epic scenes. I know that some music from the SCREAM series was used, but the soundtrack, in my opinion, is great and different from the other films in the series. The performances are really strong and the film has some suspenseful moments.
I really love this film and it is sad that the following sequel "Halloween: Resurrection" is nowhere near as satisfying.
The film isn't perfect and I would have loved it if the action packed climax was longer as the film's running time is quite short. And I wish that the film had only used one mask for Michael Myers. But the positives far outweigh the negatives.
A great film that "saved" the series and made Michael Myers a pop culture phenomenon. And it is fantastic to have Jamie Lee Curtis back in the role that made her famous.
Love, love, love.
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
For a really rushed production, this film is really well made.
Set ten years after "Jason Lives", Jason Voorhees is accidentally resurrected and freed from his chains by Tina Shepard (Lar Park-Lincoln) - a telekinetic teenager, who then has to battle and use her special powers to stop him.
Released in 1988, this film is a lot of fun and is very well made.
Jason- with and without his hockey mask, looks excellent - really great make-up design for the character and the best looking out of the whole series. The special effects, gore and mechanical, are very effective considering the film's modest budget. The actors do decent, passable jobs with their roles (especially Lar Park-Lincoln). The film is edited well. The photography, camera work and lighting is very well done and the score/sound design is excellent. John Carl Beuchler really did a fantastic job with this one. I know that this film was heavily butchered by the MPAA, but, like I said, it is edited well and I didn't find the toned down death sequences too distracting. "The New Blood" has an action packed climax and I found the film to be really satisfying.
This is a very exciting and excellent "Friday the 13th" film. One of my favourites in the series.
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
Probably the best Friday film.
Jason is accidentally resurrected by Tommy Jarvis and returns to Camp Crystal Lake to slaughter more young counselors. It is up to Tommy to stop him.
This "Friday" sequel has a witty, humorous and intelligent script with likable characters. It is different from the other films in this series and is a great film and is a lot of fun. It is very entertaining and exciting.
Director Tom Mclaughlin did a fantastic job with this sequel.
Probably the best "Friday" film. Its a blast.
Disturbing Behavior (1998)
Really fast paced teen thriller.
I love this late 90s teen thriller. The film is extremely fast paced and entertaining but not confusing at all. I love the small town/Island setting and it is beautifully shot. Also, the actors do a decent job. A really fun movie.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
It's just not very good.
I own this movie but don't watch it very often as it's just not very good. It took them 15 years to make this movie and this is what we got. To say I was very disappointed is an understatement.
Also the movie is filled with plot holes and has beyond awful acting. I don't watch these movies for the acting but come on. They could have assembled a better cast.
One of my least favourites in both series.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
The most sleazy "Friday the 13th". And it is a lot of fun. This is great.
I know that most "Friday" fans think that this movie isn't the best, but I think it's so much fun and very enjoyable. "A New Beginning" contains much more nudity than the other films in the series and also plenty of creative death scenes. I love Jason, but I really enjoy the story of this one. Its different. Also, the film is crazy and hilarious at times.
Try and watch this film with an open mind and you may like it. It is an outrageous 80's slasher sequel and one of my favourites in the "Friday" series.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Has a few things I liked. But could have been so much better.
Halloween: Resurrection is not a great Halloween film but has a few qualities. The score/sound design is excellent. I loved how the film makers built the Myers house as a set and made it look like the original house. The opening with Laurie didn't make much sense, but I found it enjoyable and it is, by far, the best part of the movie. Michael and his mask were a big improvement over H2O as were the death sequences. I liked that it took place in Haddonfeild. Also the budget and production values were good also.
But that's about it for the film's qualities. Now for the bad...
Hated Busta Rhymes' acting and character. The webcam plot wasn't that good. I would have much preferred Michael going after Laurie's son John and the characters weren't very likable or developed enough (including the main character Sara).
I do enjoy the film a little but it could have been so much better.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
I have loved this film for 20 years and will always love it.
I love The Theatrical Cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. It is very stylish and different from the others. I love the film's sound design/score, editing, acting/characters and the look and feel of the film. It really felt like Halloween in Haddonfield. I also really enjoyed the special effects/gore effects. They were really well done and Michael was at his most brutal. The Theatrical Cut really made an effort to be scary. The film is dark and scarier than The Producers Cut (which I also love). I see alot more positive reviews of this film on imdb these days which is good to see that this film is more appreciated than it used to be. Even though the production was extremely troubled, cursed if you like, the production values are very, very good. The Theatrical Cut is my favourite Halloween film.
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)
This is actually very fun.
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is a fun sequel and a good addition to the franchise. The film is entertaining and the death sequences are well done. The acting is also quite good. I really enjoyed this film.
Scream 4 (2011)
I prefer the original trilogy.
Scream and Scream 2 are the best films in the series and I love Scream 3. But unfortunately Scream 4 lacks something for me. There was no suspense, it had the worst opening of the series, the killer(s) and their motives were lame and unbelievable and the final hospital scene was badly tacked on and extremely far fetched. It was violent and brutal at times but not as good as the first trilogy.
