Twilight (2008)
It's almost like they tried...
I understand that this is a movie for the people who have read the books. But that is no excuse for what I just saw.
I walked into the theater expecting the worst, hating myself. I saw the trailer a month ago and was underwhelmed. In fact, I was amazed that it was able to get even a 5.8. I only went to see the movie as a joke. But man, it is not very often that my expectations are exceeded as much as they were here.
It was terrible, for all the wrong reasons. The acting was decent, and Cedric Diggory (I don't know his real name, but it doesn't matter. This is what everyone is going to call him for the next few years anyways.) was actually pretty good most of the time. The lady vampire was angsty and annoying, but not to the point that it ruined the movie. The plot was pretty bad, but in better hands it could've worked. The scenery was pretty neat. The special effects were underdone but not absurd. And even that horrific camera work only accounted for about 10% of the pain (it was terrible, though. I understand zooming into the background and going out of focus is an accepted technique for transitions, but not several times throughout each scene.) No, people.
It was the dialogue.
I have never seen this amount of suck in a movie driven solely by dialogue. The script was melodramatic, boring and absurd. The narration was too obvious and unnatural. I left for 7 or 8 minutes in the middle to go to the bathroom/cry and when I came back, I had missed NOTHING. NOTHING. Things are supposed to happen in movies. If I had tried that during, say, the Dark Knight I would've walked back into the theater completely confused.
I say go see the movie just so you can experience watching something that can be so bad just because of the script.
I Am Legend (2007)
Don't worry. . . be happy. . .
You don't even know. I gave blood today, I've barely eaten, and I saw I Am Legend. I should've waited a day. Or two. Honestly, this film is like running for an hour and a half straight. It affected me more than any other movie I've ever seen. When the dog dies...I have never cried in any movie. Ever. Until today. I was literally on the brink of sobbing, and so was everybody else in the theater, or everybody else in the theater who had a soul. When Will Smith was talking to the mannequin in the movie store, again, brink of sobbing. I highly, HIGHLY recommend you see this movie, just eat something first. And try to catch an early morning showing. The only problem I have with this movie was the ending, after Will Smith died. When Anna found the survivor's colony. That was absolutely infuriating. I read the book, and one would think they'd at least try to make the ending even slightly similar to the book. I hope there's an alternate ending on the DVD. The reason I gave it a 10/10 even though the ending sucked was because I can simply stop the DVD there when I get it and never have to see that.
Canta Maria (2006)
Usually, I cant tell if an actor is bad if they speak a different language
Not so with this movie.
I went to see this Monday with my class. This is the first movie I have ever come close to falling asleep in, and the only reason I didn't was because it killed me to not know what they were saying, so I had to look at the screen for the subtitles.
The movie starts off with some people who we don't know shooting at "the bad guy" of the film. "The bad guy", as I will refer to him, was amusing to look at. he was always frowning, and he looked like he stumbled into the casting area, asking for money, so they decided to pick him.
I would go into the specifics of why this movie is terrible, but, frankly, i don't want to remember it. It might give me nightmares.
Casino Royale (2006)
Daniel Craig fits the role!
The movie started out like any other James Bond movie. There were some deaths, and we were introduced to the movie. The first sign of change came, though, when the song intro with the credits had (gasp!) no naked women! Not that that matters much to anyone else besides ten-year-olds, but it made most of the audience realize that this was most definitely not going to be the same, womanizing James Bond that we all know. We move into a fairly amazing chase scene, where Bond is chasing a man through a construction site. They end up on top of a crane. After that, the fight scene seems forced, though, because nothing can match a fight on top of a crane. That was one of the only low points in the entire movie. The rest was spectacular acting, witty humor, but with a surprising absence of any sex at all, except between Bond and the first woman we meet. The poker scene was intense, Vesper's death was moving, the car crash made us groan, and the torture scene wade us groan and cringe even more. But it kept us laughing, somehow. Finally though, at the end, after he shoots Mr. White in the leg, do we hear the great movie phrase that we have all been waiting for. "Bond, James Bond." Now, is when Daniel Craig finally becomes immortalized with Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, and Brosnan. And it seems as if hes been suited to the role for his entire life.
Ocean's Twelve (2004)
Better than the first
I don't understand how some people hate this movie. This was one of the few movies that i have ever seen where you have to watch it all the way through. The movie just moves. Unlike other movies, something is always happening. It has the same all star cast as the first one; a better plot line, in my opinion; and, most of all, it has the same heart as the first one. Unlike the new pirates of the Caribbean movie, for example (I liked that movie, it was just the first one that came to mind.) it just seems to have the same feel as the first one. Except this one is much funnier than Oceans 11. Some of the conversations that they had, such as the one between Rusty (Brad Pitt) and Danny (George Clooney) when Danny realized that he had been given a fake wake up call, and then when they got drunk, made me laugh for 5 minutes after the scene had already ended. Also, the movie is much more confusing than the last one, which i like, because that means that you can watch it several times over without getting bored of it. Because of these qualities, and because Eliot Gould had a bigger part, i can say that Oceans 12 was better than the first.
