Knock Knock (2015)
Much Better Than the Reviews Here
Knock Knock kept me watching-glued to the screen eagerly & painfully waiting for what could possibly happen next. I had zero idea going into this movie what it was about. I knew it was an Eli Roth movie, so I was interested.
I think the bad reviews are coming from people expecting & wanting another 'Hostel'. Roth definitely still has that ability to make you feel as terrified & angry as the main character. I was shocked at the turn this one took- again showing us that humans are much scarier than any fictional being from the horror genre. When I watch a movie where all of the events are a possibility in the real world- it's always interesting.
The monsters in this movie are terrifying & it's easy to hate them by the end of the movie... I know I certainly did.
If you're in the mood for something with a new idea, not another torture porn horror flick (which I enjoy very much btw) that packs enough "dramatic horror" as anything else in this genre- then you will enjoy it. No special effects, no fake blood & guts. Instead, we see realistic events turning 1 man's life into hell. I recommend this movie. But if you want a ghost story or something to give you nightmares...maybe go for a different one. However this is well worth the run time.
The Final Cut (2004)
Enjoyable little flick
I just finished watching The Final Cut & it struck me as very sad but at the same time it was thought provoking, strange, interesting & entertaining. ((I think that people giving this movie such low scores & negative reviews didn't entirely get what the movie was saying.))This one made me go inward & look over my "best of me" moments that would compose my re-memory. I would pity the cutter responsible for my life. One thing that kept coming to mind was "would I want this implant?". My answer is yes I think I would- but only if it was in my control, not something for strangers to watch after I am gone. This would be a very handy tool for a person in early to mid stages of Alzeimer's disease. Maybe jogging memories would help the brain make sense of the present. Not sure. There are parts of my life that I would do anything to revisit. And of course there are parts that I wouldn't want to see ever again, but I'd never want them "cut" either, as all of it (the great & the horrible) make me who I am.
So, yes. I would love to have an implant, but only one for me that connects through something similar to Bluetooth & no one else can see my "content" but me. Then there is the question of...what happens if someone gets obsessed with their memories that they've forgotten (due to blacking out from drug use or something darker)? I could see that being an issue since many people tend to get stuck in the past without a visual/audio aid.
*Solid cast aside from Sorvino's character
*Interesting narrative with enough twists that this is not a formulaic sci-fi movie
*Nice direction & choice of music
* I recommend giving this one a watch & ignoring all of the negativity.
Safer at Home (2021)
Just Missed the Mark
I gave this more than 1 star because there was a bit of good acting & an interesting idea. As far as the story...it could have been really good. They were going in a decent direction then went waaaaaay off course. After 1/3 of this, I knew exactly what was going to happen. If you like watching random people freak out over & over about the same thing (on multiple screens) then you'll enjoy this. Otherwise, you can skip it! If you like highly predictable movies with awful endings...then go for it.
I'm not saying that it's the worst thing I've seen, but it was underwhelming & could've been a decent little suspense movie. I figured out where this was going & how it would end too soon. Why did I keep watching? I had some time to kill and wanted to make sure that I was right. Unfortunately I was.
Apparition (2019)
Snooze Fest
This movie had potential but unfortunately it just didn't meet minimum requirements. I haven't given up on a horror movie in a very long time. I really tried, I watched the attempted "tragic" back story that would predictably cause problems several years later when people start using a phone app to communicate w/the dead. (That was all in the trailer.) After 30min, things slowly begin to unfold, however with all of the suspension of disbelief that any fiction movie requires, unfortunately this just flopped. I waited for something to happen, but luckily I realized I'd been waiting too long & stopped trying.
If you're looking for a new horror movie, you can do MUCH better.
Havenhurst (2016)
Great idea for a horror movie...
...but terrible results. You can skip this & watch something better & you won't be sorry. Yes I wanted to like this movie because the story sounded interesting & potentially could make for a good movie. I was super let down, luckily b4 too much time passed.
* I rarely take the time to leave negative reviews- but I hope I can help someone that may get sucked into this flop in tint. Like I said, I really wanted to like this movie, but it was just boring.

Walk Away (2020)
My 1st 100% negative review/ITS THAT BAD
I've watched a million+ horror & thriller movies, none as bad as this. You get everything you need to know about the movie based on the trailer. It COULD'VE been decent (good even), however the way this movie unfolded was a regretful waste of film & time. I finished it hoping for a redeeming ending...but instead, as the credits rolled, I felt nothing but regret for wasting my time. I give 2 thumbs down & a rating of zero. This was a bomb for sure.
