Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Boring
It's ass, dude. Let's not even get into the bad dialogue or the over reliance on out-dated cg. What really matters to me is how BORING THIS STUPID MOVIE IS.
There a lot of cool ideas when it comes to the basic story beats, but they are all carried out in the most boring ways imaginable. I feel nothing for any of the characters.
And while the world is undeniably cool and the action has its fun moments; no scene is particularly interesting. Is it because the bad dialogue? The flat direction? Yeah. What else would it be?
Also, It feels nitpicky to say this, but HOW does Padmé fall for him? "I killed them all. And not just the men, but the women and children too. They're like animals. And I slaughtered them like animals."
Holy hell lady, THAT is what wets your well?
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Disappointed With The Character Writing
It had a decent start when it comes to setting up the characters' dynamics. They didn't feel as much like a family in this one. Plus, nobody other than Freddy has a discernible personality trait (I. E. a line said by one character could be said by a different character and there would be no change in the line's meaning or effect).
The story was incredibly predictable, but that doesn't bother me that much. I liked the first one because of characters, the tone, and the overall presentation. And while I'm happy to report the tone and overall presentation are the same (if not better in some cases), I am devastated to report that the characters were not as great as they once were (except for Freddy).
I could go on for a while about how disappointing the character arcs are, but I'll summarize it briefly: The seeds planted didn't feel right, but I was willing to shrug that off and roll with it. The seeds were not nurtured in any way. Sure there is a lot of cool stuff going on around it, but the seed was shafted. And then, somehow that seed was a tree. No gradual growth, like normal; just what once was a seed is now a tree. It's a nice tree, but being robbed of watching it naturally grow makes it less marvelous.
The Invitation (2022)
I sure did watch this
That's about the most I can say about this. It was in fact something I watched.
It fails at being a horror
It fails at being a romance
It could've been a passable mystery, but the trailer spoiled it.
It wasn't bombastic enough to be fun, but it wasn't well-written enough to justify its dullness.
At best it's a way to spend an evening. Although, personally, if it wasn't for the fact that I got to watch it for free (I work at a movie theater), then I would've been dissatisfied with my purchase.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Remember: This is the setup
Expect laughs, heart, and creativity, but don't expect a Ragnorak level movie.
Unfortunately Thor: Love and Thunder can't be as good as Ragnorak simply because of when it's being released. Thor: Love and Thunder is the first Thor movie in what is essentially the new 'phase 1' of Marvel. There is a lot that needs to be set up and unfortunately Thor: Love and Thunder has to do it's part in setting up that greater story.
All in all, it's an entertaining, well executed, movie that I walked out of in a good mood. Given what it has to accomplish in the overall Marvel narrative, I'd say that's an accomplishment. And with the ending that it has, I'm very excited to see what is set up in this movie payoff.
