Love, Simon (2018)

I laughed AND cried, but just a little

Love, Simon was a pleasant surprise. When my girlfriend asked me out to go see it I was skeptical to say the least. I figured I'd nap at some point during the movie. But that was not the case, I liked Simon almost immediately. All the actors were brilliant and believable and the drama teacher and vice principal were hilarious, though I will say the way they speak with the kids probably wouldn't fly in real life, a teacher should be able to speak with their student as frankly as they did but it's not the world we live.

The movie as a whole was uplifting and happy. I wish I could really put into words how I felt after watching the movie...hopeful, I guess, I don't know, it was a positive feeling I can tell you that. I'll definitely watch it again when it comes to Netflix.

I Can Understand Why People Do Not Like It

I thought the movie was enjoyable, it has a nice concise story and solid direction and acting. It is not your traditional horror movie, in fact I would hesitate calling it a horror film at all, but there is a sense of mounting dread that starts from almost the opening scene. It is more about the human condition rather than what has put these people in the position they are in. And do not expect any kind of conclusion to the story when watching, the ending is ambiguous.

It Could Have Been Good

The movie is just too long. The story was interesting but by the time it got to the heart of what was going on, I just didn't care and ready for it to be over. It's sort of Lynchian in that a lot is going on and you really have to pay attention but it wasn't engaging enough for me. Sometimes with indy films the acting and directing aren't up to standard, this isn't the case with Dead Billy the acting and directing were really good. I enjoyed Lauren Myers very much, which is why I gave the film a 6.
