Ballerina (III) (2023)

Yes, the John Wick spin-off came early
9 October 2023
A dark revenge thriller with great characters. Loved Jeon Jong-seo as a badass killer who avenge her friend.

The plot is very simple, it's a revenge thriller but the vibrant cinematography and the killer soundtrack makes it so fresh and interesting to watch with amazing fight choreography. Well, there are not very much over the top action sequences, but it is done so well with the camera work, it looks pretty great.

The colour grading, visuals and the soundtrack are the major win for the film. It's rich in vibrant colours which makes the audience stick to the screen and the score is eccentric which makes the film even more energetic and the performance and the action is done right.

Jeon Jong-seo has been on a winning streak with Burning, The Call, Mona Lisa and now this... And seeing her in the leading action role was such a treat. Also, she proves revenge is best served cold.

From the very first scene in the film, the action is pretty well done and also the story is pretty good. It's not that we haven't seen these kinda story before but it's a entertaining one nevertheless.

Flora and Son (2023)
7/10
Flora and Son with ex-husband and long-distance boyfriend.
29 September 2023
Flora and Son is yet another feel-good musical comedy drama by John Carney. As a fan of Begin Again, I was excited to watch this new film by the same director. Also, Eve Hewson getting the recognition and breakout she deserves.

Eve Hewson finally lands a lead film role which really made me happy and she truly shines as Flora. She is really amazing as a frustrated young mother who sparks interest in music.

The songs and music were pretty good and it's a pretty feel-good film. Here, the direction continues to balance out Irish culture, music and a bit of romance. Eve Hewson and Joesph Gordon-Levitt have pretty nice chemistry with good dialogue interaction moments that builds up together.

However, the narrative, on the other hand could've been more creative or energetic. With some minor flaws, this film still is a nice little film which I enjoyed pretty much.

The Baadshah of Bollywood - SRK - King Khan
31 August 2023
I loved watching this film. Let's face it, we've all (Nepali and Indian) watched this film before and it still is as fun as it was back in the day.

Loved Baadshah when I was a kid and loved Baadshah now. The goofy detective, SRK as the title character is just so, so good. It's funny, entertaining and investing throughout. And the songs are so damn amazing. Abhijeet in all of the songs was phenomenal. Specially, Woh Ladki Jo, it's a standout songs among other equally great songs.

And Twinkle Khanna, she's so beautiful and so charming. I'd never saw her as a Bollywood sensation but from today onwards, I'll always see her as a diva. Such a beautiful actress and her work is as beautiful as she is. She's fantastic, she has owned every scene which she is in.

The film is so funny, it's a slapstick comedy which works in every aspects. There's comedy, there's crime and there is romance. The chemistry between SRK and Twinkle Khanna is amazing. Also the supporting characters, Johnny Lever, Amrish Puri, and others were great.

It's an out and out entertaining film which is just so damn fun with it's crime comedy elements.

A brilliant rewatch.

Such a beautiful and uplifting film.
4 August 2023
This short has a very positive and lifting message to give. This really touched my heart and the film is beautiful. The animation is great and the message is told greatly in such short runtime of 40 minutes which is pretty amazing. A relatable short with such a great message to tell.

The characters are well written that I got attached to instantly and it was nice to see them develop throughout the film. The story is well-paced and interesting to watch and the animation is fantastic. Also, the music is soothing to the ears, makes you emotional.

Really, many people need to watch this! A very uplifting and hopeful film.

I REALLY MISSED THESE KIND FILMS.
28 July 2023
There's some whores in this house.

The WAP must be the highlight of the film among others.

This is a great film. I have not watched a good raunchy comedy films in a while and this is one great entry to it. It is fun and funny at the same time. It definitely has The Hangover vibes with The Bridesmaids flavour to it and has several laugh out loud moments.

Also it is clever and not just stupid dumb funny. It has heart to it as well but most importantly it's really funny. The female buddy comedy worked and it worked really well.

With the added cultural aspects and some deeper character development, this is a thoughtful examination of identity, cultural connection, personal history and growth. It's also fairly raunchy and lets it's ladies cut loose, providing a great mix of heartfelt moments and raw comedy.

A trip descending into chaos has been done many times but it still works if it's done right. As mentioned, it is sure to give plenty of laughs. The performance are all really good, with some brilliant comic timing. The four leads complement each other well and have a great chemistry throughout which is so vital in a comedy.

Overall, this film is an all and all comedy with some heart as well. Fun characters, lots of laughs, engaging plot, great performance all round. Definitely one to watch if you're looking for a good comedy.

Oppenheimer (I) (2023)
10/10
Deserves all the hype and all the accolades in the future! Oscars, here we come!
21 July 2023
A cinematic spectacle. Oppenheimer is yet another masterclass filmmaking and storytelling from non other than, Christopher Nolan and he has crafted one of the greatest biopics of all time.

In his own words, "J. Robert Oppenheimer, the most important person who ever lived". This film has exceptional storytelling and mad genius cinematography. Christopher Nolan is a very intelligent person himself, he has proven it since his first film, Following and have given such thought-provoking films like Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and Tenet. With this, Nolan has proven to be a master at filmmaking taking inspiration from the 2005 book, American Prometheus.

This film fires dialogue packed with historical information at a relentless pace and jumps to various times in Oppenheimer's life continuously (from his own perspective as well as Lewis Strauss' perspective) throughout it's 3 hour runtime. The star-studded cast gives phenomenal performance, even a small role has been done by the big name in Hollywood; this proves how big of a name is Nolan and how actors would do anything to work with him.

The career best performance from Cillian Murphy must be the highlight of the film but I was really surprised with the final act and how important of a role is of Mr. Downey Jr. The final hour of the film must be the most intense in the film about the atomic bomb. As it unravels, my heart was pounding out of my chest!

Aesthetically beautiful cinematography, exceptional performance and terrifying soundtracks.

I was stunned looking at the visuals. A great milestone for film industry, as a whole. This film will be remembered throughout, at least for it's visual milestone.

Suzume (2022)

Expected more from Shinkai
3 July 2023
Makoto Shinkai has been a leading director in Japanese anime films in the past few years or even the decades. His films are so beautiful to look and as it's visually and aesthetically pleasing, and this one is not different.

Suzume centers around a 17 year old girl who comes across a mysterious guy (Souta) who is looking for a door that could prevent disasters from happening, if closed in time.

With Suzume, Shinkai once again mixes the young love and natural disasters. The film had a very lovely animation like his previous films, however, with this film, I felt like I couldn't get into the fantasy element of the film like I did with "Your Name." or even "Weathering With You". This was one of my most anticipated film of this year Shinkai built such anticipation with his previous much acclaimed films. This film is good but, I guess I had too much expectation from this film. Suzume successfully captures the disaster element and the soundtrack and undoubtedly with it's stunning visuals but it fails to fully utilize an intriguing premise.

Visually stunning, and a striking soundtrack made this film a worthy watch even though Shinkai's formula of blending romance and natural disaster didn't quite worked for me this time as much as I didn't vibe with the fantasy element of the film. I think I'll have to give this film a second try as I really wanted to like it and it just didn't seem to do it for me like his other films.

While the film didn't catch me quite as much as Your Name. Did, I'd have to say I did enjoy the chaos of the premise and his storytelling.

One of the best cinematic experience I've ever had.
28 May 2023
This is one of the best action franchise (if not the best) of the recent years. I remember watching Chapter 2 and 3 in the theatres, I was at awe looking at the action sequences and also the visuals. This franchise had, hands down the best action choreography in Hollywood history. It's brutal, gory, thrilling and exciting.

And today watching Chapter 4 was no ordinary, this one had one of the best action sequences as expected but also the cinematography and soundtracks were top-notch. I loved every bit of it. Scott Adkins as 'Killa' reminded me of 'The Penguin' (Colin Farrell) in The Batman (2022), which was another brilliant cinematic experience I had last year. But this film, I was totally blown all the characters and the character study was top-notch.

I still think Chapter 2 is the best film in the franchise, but this film is definitely top-tier. Bill Skarsgård was good but Donnie Yen stole the show. Keanu Reeves is freaking awesome and this is by far his best performance yet. The action is crisp, well directed and is beautifully choreographed. And there is one scene which is so well shot and that is the highlight of the film for me and has a great impact on the film.

However, on the minus side, it drags a bit in the middle but it's just a minor subject. Can be ignored. Nevertheless, I was consistently entertained for the nearly three straight hours.

Kagbeni (2008)

Be careful what you wish for...
13 May 2023
The harsh beauty of the Himalayas serves as a backdrop to get another rendition of "The Monkey's Paw", a short story by W. W. Jacobs in the 2008 Nepali film, Kagbeni. It is the first digital film of Nepal, it has its own place in the history of Nepali Film Industry. And Bhushan Dahal made this film worth watching. First thing first, the story inherits some real tension from the original story which is beautifully complimented by the amazing performance from the lead actors. And it's the acting debut of the three leads: Saugat Malla, Deeya Maskey and Nima Rumba, which is brilliant; so natural and profound acting.

Kagbeni portraits the lifestyle and social images of northern rural part of Nepal. There are series of beautiful glittering images of Nepali culture and nature. The story is amazing and the cast, superb. Actually, the lead actor, Saugat Malla gives the most sensitive role and also this film feels like way ahead of it's time. I didn't expect Nima Rumba to perform so well as he is not a professional actor but a singer, which he proved me wrong.

This is a different film for the Nepali audience. The storyline and the acting fit perfectly and also it's story is not a typical Nepali film which we have been seeing since our childhood. I think this film is the first of it's kind at that time. From the very beginning, the film set a standard unlike any other Nepali films. And as the film progresses, I was stunned with how the film turned out. The characters are so believable (because of the Nepali society), so unpredictable and vulnerable at the same time.

Also, the message passed through the film is great.

Flawed but absolutely fun light-hearted action comedy
5 May 2023
I was putting something light rom-com for fun and honestly I quite enjoyed it and nowhere near bad. This isn't a great film but it is really fun to watch. The writing is good enough though some jokes fall flat.

The positive aspect of the film must definitely be the cast. You can tell they were having fun with it as well. Also the cinematography and editing was a big plus as well. Jennifer Lopez absolutely stole the whole show along with Josh Duhamel. Both were pretty good with their roles. Though there were some flat jokes, it was pretty funny and entertaining.

And the big loss was the argument between Lopez and Duhamel about the big wedding thing. It was so stupid and corny. It starts off a little meh but it turns out a fun action comedy.

It's an amusing premise: the Bride and Groom have to take out a band of pirates. A couple of standout moments were the kitchen and helicopter scenes. There are also a few good 'set up and pay off' scenarios that happened throughout the film.

Though this film isn't all great and has plotholes but at least it was entertaining throughout. The loose point was the argument, how it all started but where it goes is a win, I suppose.

I was looking for a light hearted action comedy, and I'm glad I got stumbled upon this even though it was flawed. Entertaining watch.

The biggest surprise of 2023 so far!
3 May 2023
Wasn't expecting I'd be this entertained throughout the film. It has the comedy, the action, the fantasy and the adventure, so it definitely surpassed my expectations. I'm not even slightly familiar with the game, Dungeons & Dragons, don't know the source material but I gotta tell, I really did enjoyed this film. Chris Pine is so good with his character, giving funny lines.

Although far from being a masterpiece, the fantasy film doesn't necessarily have to be in order to be an entertaining watch. There are some honestly amusing moments which is genuinely funny, self referential humour, sharp wit, continuous narrative pay-offs, effective utilisations of practical FX & ingeniously inventive.

The characters were pretty good. I was surprised with Justice Smith's performance as I was expecting way way less from him but turned out he really did a pretty great job. And also Bradley Cooper's cameo was unexpected and fun.

Very entertaining overall, great pacing, some laugh out loud moments. That's not to say it's perfect though; well, I'm not really familiar with the whole D&D world so I think there's a lack of world building and character development but the whole story was pretty great so these criticism falls into a small bit.

Fans of the Evil Dead films will love this film.
1 May 2023
There's enough blood and gore along with some scary stuff thrown to creep you out.

I watched it in the theatre on the 23rd and was quite surprised by the gore from the film. I didn't expect it to have this much violence and blood throughout the film. And also, I watched it in @fcubecinemas so it was a treat as they've shown the Rated-R version than the PG-13, which was shown in @qfxcinemas_official . So, I think I definitely made a great decision here.

About the setting, the Evil Dead film have left the woods and brings their bloodthirsty spirits to Los Angeles apartment with a single mother and her kids. I thought the setting for the film was well done. The whole atmosphere of the film was eerie and the the sound was pretty awesome.

I'd say I don't find these type of films scary, but I watched it with my girl and I can confirm that she certainly find it terrifying. She said she regret coming with me to watch the film cause of the violence and gore. She was at the edge of her seat, audibly gasping, screaming at certain points, covering her eyes and even pinching me hard. I'd say, this film definitely has the ability to deliver some tension.

The leads, everyone gave a great performance with their characters. The opening scene was decent with possibly one of the greatest film title cards in modern day horror. Alyssa Sutherland, who played the lead role, absolutely killed the role. The atmosphere was chilly and was a perfect vibe and also pays homage to the original film.

There's certainly plenty of gore. Apparently 6500 litres of blood was used to make the film and when you see it, you won't be left wondering where it all went. For what it was, I have to say I had a pretty good time with it.

Beef (2023– )

Could've easily been a film instead
1 May 2023
This show is overhyped and overrated.

Though each episodes were like 35 minutes long, a 90 minutes film would've been quite enough, imo. Also, I don't even see the point of the series.

The series starts a bit strong, I guess, lags in the middle and implodes at the end.

It's a mess. Way too stretched out. Flat, boring. The leads were good but the story was not great enough to be a series. It was really too stretched. The first episode was good, not great, like okay and after that it's just nothingness going around for another 9 episodes. There was no proper beef, it's just 'nothing' happening for way too much time

After the first episode, I was just watching the rest to finish it. I was longing the series to finish.

All about Triptii Dimri
23 January 2023
A hard hitting social issue highlited with the help of a folklore that is set in the 1800's in Bengal. The cinematography was pretty beautiful and the use of red colour is aesthetic. Sometimes, it feels like they've used a bit too much of the colour but it's still spectacular. There are no unexpected jump scares, no loud BGM but the story tackles with issues like child marriage, gender inequality, domestic and sexual violence, which itself makes the tale disturbing.

The story was quite predictable from the beginning but still Bulbbul manages to engage the audience throughout. Definitely it has a weak climax but Triptii Dimri gave a very intriguing and powerful performance and she shines in the end. This is not your typical horror film but a beautiful folklore with amazing location, direction, colour, costume, set design and a great visual experience.

BONKERS
19 January 2023
This series finished with the bang. I really enjoyed the series. Binged the whole series in 2 days and it's pretty good. I really loved the three protagonists, they were really badasses kicking them pimp's asses.

What I love about this series the most?

The runtime and of course the pacing. With these genres of series, they are pretty long; long episodes like 45 - 50 minutes or with many episodes in each seasons. Well, this series has just 8 episodes each in 3 seasons and approximately 30 minutes, which makes it so easy to binge-watch.

Also, the characters are phenomenal. I really loved each characters, whether they are the chicas or the pimp's. They're all great. Sometimes, the characters can be too much or even silly but overall, they are pretty great. The writing is also exceptional as they are consistent unlike 'La Casa de Papel' as La Casa started pretty awesome but with the later seasons, it became unnecessary and unwatchable. But this was so consistent at offering audience what they expect. I didn't expect much from the series, and I was pretty satisfied with it.

Season 1 was great, it had tons of action and the storyline was straight forward which was very much enjoyable. However, I felt there was a bit fluctuations in Season 2 but it wasn't that much of a problem as it was still good but a bit complex. But, Season 3 made the whole series worth it. It was clever, fun and most importantly entertaining.

All the three leads, Coral, Wendy and Gina were awesome though I liked Wendy a little bit more as she was great in her role. And also, I found some common grounds with Coral and Macarena, from Vìs a Vìs (another Aléx Piña series) with the looks, motive and personality.

Overall, Sky Rojo is an action-packed, entertaining series which is not free from some faults but not big enough to make it bad but is very entertaining and a wild ride throughout.

It's just dumb!
10 January 2023
I knew this was going to be bad but I had never imagined it to be this stupid.

Predictable from the very start and felt like an unnecessary sequel. What the actual garbage. Waste of time, effort and talent. The film was stylish and all but it lacks the main ingredient to be watchable, the story. The whole film was pointless and it felt like it was going nowhere. And also I could even tell who the murderer was before the murder even happened. So, yeah that's messed up.

The dialogue were kinda poor and I read that there was Ethan Hawke in the film, I didn't even noticed where he was. Spotted Hugh Grant though.

Totally unnecessary sequel. And also it's getting a third part already.

What a performer!
10 January 2023
I don't usually listen to Taylor Swift, but this stadium tour was awesome. I envy all those people who were in the audience.

My girl was really excited to show me this concert film that she'd watched, lord knows how many times. Loved how she was looking at me while watching it 😅🤣.

Taylor Swift is just so astonishing and mesmerising. The performance were just awesome and the storytelling was beautiful. A global star. The opening act, "...Ready for It?" was the finest from the concert along with "Bad Blood" and "Look What You Made Me Do". These three songs were the peak of the show. Truly phenomenal 💯

Watching this made me realize how many bangers she has over the years. And also how many of her songs I've heard and I really enjoyed this concert. Her interactions with the fans are just so lovely. And the crowd was list, one of the best crowd. She definitely knows how to handle the audience. And kudos to the whole team and the band.

Qala (2022)
9/10
Soothing for both eyes and ears.
10 January 2023
Great character study from Anvita Dutt yet again with Triptii Dimri. And she is literally the star in this psychological drama. Well written screenplay and stunning performance is what makes Qala a pleasant watch. With beautiful set design, costumes, music, cinematography, visual style and direction, this film takes the audience to its own realm.

Qala explores an unexpected theme bounded by metaphors and symbolism pointing to the vulnerability of a woman to make a career in showbiz. Envy, guilt, trauma are some of the key motifs of the film. It is a slow-burn that masterfully expresses it's message through entrancing images that capture the emotions of various characters. Every scene just oozes out art and beauty with a strong topic of mental illness in mind. The ending was quite mind-blowing, I must say.

Qala is like a poetry in motion. A dark psychological musical drama that puts the important issue of mental health to the fore. The music is the heart of the film with beautiful songs all over but "Ghodey Pe Sawaar" and "Shauq" must be my favourite. The songs feels like classic and even the sound quality brings nostalgic tone from the old Bollywood.

Yes, the resemblance to Black Swan was there, but this is original to every aspect. Powerful performance and superb story brought to life.

Both Anvita Dutt and Triptii Dimri will have a brilliant career ahead. Hoping they'd collaborate again in the future. Brilliant duo.

Whiplash (2014)

There is always a replacement.
10 January 2023
An unrivalled depiction of the obsessive passion trope. Whiplash is powerful, captivating, exhausting and disturbing.

The pursuit of greatness is not always pretty. The sound is also thrilling in its intense authenticity, and really add to the impact of the pulse-racing Jazz soundtrack. There is in particular unbelievable drum playing that serves as a fond reminder of iconic drum players of the classic Jazz Age, the final drum solo is long but exhilaratingly played and a huge part of why the ending sends up a storm as much as it does.

JK Simmons gave a stellar performance as a music teacher in the best Jazz school, trying desperately to find and develop the next jazz legend. From the moment he appears he demands the screen, literately.

Writer-director Damien Chazelle does a stunning job of keeping us on the edge of our seats wondering when or if a climatic breakdown will occur.

Copenhagen Cowboy (2022–2023)
6/10
Could've been a 2 hour film.
10 January 2023
Ambitious miniseries with beautiful shots throughout and atmospheric lighting. The neon lights, production value and overly long silences were the highlights of the series. I was pulled into a strange world where I absolutely couldn't tell where it was going. The first two episodes require patience, however once you are into the story, Copenhagen Cowboy is something new and engaging.

The colours and cinematography are beautiful in a harsh environment. It's slow - sometimes very slow - but once you enter the meditative state, it makes sense. Though it has dark storytelling and violent characters, there's ample of hope and kindness involved as well.

The technical brilliance in the direction, cinematography and score can't really be denied. The reliance on specific shots - static camera, 360 degree pans, slow zoom is highly effective and everything is calculated to build maximum tension.

However, I feel like, it could easily have been a 2 hour film instead of a miniseries as it would've been fast paced and wouldn't even miss any story elements.

Violence against women is injurious to health.
12 August 2022
The struggle to hold on to an abusive relationship is so well crafted in the story. Darlings is a good dark comedy with good screenplay and which isn't a remake of any source. The performances by the cast were brilliant, Alia Bhatt as an innocent naive housewife married to a sadistic violent husband and her mother, Shefali Shah is very good.

Alia and Shefali makes a great pair as mother-daughter. Also, this film present a perspective on domestic violence without mocking it and taking it seriously and making it as a comedy. The topic is very important and the impotance is shown and proved. The film is so well written and is well executed. Darlings is a nice refreshing take on domestic violence.

Very entertaining and fun film with a good message. However, I felt the film could've been a bit shorter. Some scenes are over the top which could've been wrapped up in 90 - 100 minutes. Overall, it is a very good attempt and proves successful in so many level and is better than lots of recent Bollywood flicks.

A film that DCEU deserve.
10 August 2021
This film is totally entertaining. From the beginning till the very end. It's a fun watch. The characters are really great. Each one of the characters are so well written and are great in their way. In the previous Suicide Squad, the film was totally carried by Harley Quinn only, but this film, each character are so well written and brilliantly portrayed. It's funny, action packed and whole lotta fun. Really enjoyed it a lot. The action scene is also well choreographed and brilliantly executed while the comedy is genius. Peacemaker is just hilarious. Loved every characters. Ratcatcher 2 is one amazing character. Her relationship with Bloodsport is really good.

The screenplay and direction are really good. And the soundtrack and score is brilliant. Every character is brilliantly portrayed. King Shark is adorably deadly. Amazing characters.

The character, Bloodsport is similar to Deadshot but better in every possible way. Bloodsport > Deadshot.

This is what the other film should have been in the first place. Would have loved to watch this in the theatres, but still enjoyed it at home.

Would be great to make a sequel to the film. This is real fun. Every second of the film was entertaining.

DCEU best film so far. It has the whole pack. It is filled with action, comedy, brilliant characters. Thoroughly enjoyed.

I MET A GIRL YESTERDAY. HER NAME WAS NEVRA ELMAS.
8 July 2021
This is an excellent series. This is the first Turkish series I've ever watched and this is just awesome. From the very first episode till the last, it is one gripping series with the excellent writing. The writing in the series is phenomenal... one perfect crime drama with brilliant story, great screenplay, great direction, amazing cinematography, class soundtrack and top-notch acting by all the cast members. The framing, cuts end edits, the music, colours; all of them complement and support the setting beautifully. The performance from the whole cast is just flawless.

In the whole series, I loved the character 'Nevra Elmas' perfectly portrayed by "Cansu Dere". She is one good person and a good cop; She's dedicated, intelligent, vulnerable and most importantly, a proper badass. Obviously, 'Agâh Beyoglu' portrayed by "Haluk Bilginer" is phenomenal. He is impeccable in his role. The regular cat and mouse chase is made really captivating with is brilliant writing. Sahsiyet is fresh and original. The motive of the series is just superb. The storytelling is brilliant and I really loved how the series unfolds the mystery that has been maintaining from the first episode. And the last episode does justice for the whole series. It is a highly original and inventive story, which builds to a deeply affecting conclusion.

The series is filled with emotions and a fascinating storytelling from Hakan Günday directed by Onur Saylak. The character development is great, and very good reflection of the society. It has well deserved cinematography, appeal, timing, and pace. It is slow at times, and yet thoughtful and decisive. Above all, the last two episodes had a dreadful atmosphere, and i think, that was something which sums up to all the reasons the firsts ten episodes left an impression on me.

Air Doll (2009)
10/10
Having a heart was heartbreaking.
8 June 2021
Air Doll is a rather sad and delicate story about loneliness, the loss of innocence, urban alienation, and what it means to be a human. This film is a realistic fantasy. Air Doll attempts to illustrate to the viewer the loneliness that exists in an urban environment such as Tokyo.

It is beautifully filmed and well acted both lighthearted at times and quite dark at others. Bae Doona's character of the doll, Nozomi, is the highlight of the film. She plays the character perfectly, often condensing many emotions into one and displaying all of the quirkiness of a doll that has recently discovered life.

As a result, 'Air Doll' is very philosophical and dark, maybe a bit exceedingly so. One of the best film I watched this year.

It seems, life is constructed in a way that no one can fulfill it alone.

8 June 2021
A phenomenal surprise. This is original, creative and humorous. The costume design is just brilliant. This film kinda reminded me of the film, "The Devil Wears Prada", however this is even better and Cruella's character reminded me of Harley Quinn. This is an amazing origin story for Cruella. This is a really good "birth of a villian" kinda film. The writing is really good and the story is original.

Cruella is brilliantly written, acted and portrayed. Emma Stone is just phenomenal, it is imo, Emma Stone's best performance till date. She is a perfect fit for the role. Loved her portrayal of Cruella and also Emma Thompson is really good as well. The blending and chemistry between these two women is so obvious as is the fun they must have both had in performing their respective roles. This was dark, gritty, everything you wouldn't expect from Disney.

The direction is noteworthy. Loved the cinematography in the film and the soundtrack is on point. The costume designs are the best thing in the film. They are beautiful, different and are the feast to the eyes. The setting and the atmosphere of the film is marvellous. Truly enjoyable and entertaining from the beginning till the very end. The young Estella is also brilliant. Dazzling visual feast. The cast is perfect. Everyone in the supporting roles are also good in their respective roles.

Cruella is a surprisingly brilliant and visually captivating film that is sure to be a wild ride for all who wish to see how the renowned puppy killer got her name and fame.

8.5/10.
