Dai si hing (2018)
Donnie Yen can do better than this.
This film has good intentions, but alas, fails in rightfully executing so.
Now, this film isn't a total disaster, thanks to a few things- the acting is quite enjoyable, even if it fails to excel its predecessors, the action is fine, though again, not exceptional in any way. The light, fun tone also helps the film from being something unredeemable(on the other hand, the film does have a problem with serious scenes). Unfortunately, there are more flaws than its positive traits. For instance, it has a severe issue with cliches. Or, to clarify, a dependency on cliches. The whole film is over cliched.
Honestly, the stars did quite a good job here. Donnie Yen is perfect in this role, as a unique teacher with an unorthodox teaching method, while his co-stars are good enough for the film.
Now, let's start with the characters-sorry-stereotypes. Now, tropes aren't bad, but when you use too many of them, it leaves a very, very bad taste in one's mouth(or eye). Now, the characters are far too unoriginal and ungenuine. Their arcs don't fare well either, as they're equally familiar. The plot? You get it. Honestly, I loved the feeling the film gives after the credits roll(this is a perfect example of a "feel-good" film), but the more I think about it, the more flawed does the film seems, with problems like CGI failure or cringy dialogue littered throughout the film.
Overall, this film would do fare better if the writers put a little more creativity into the script(or more Donnie Yen fighting, perhaps).
Enola Holmes (2020)
Well,well,what a pleasant surprise
Well, well, what a pleasant surprise(which means utter gibberish spelled backward).
Honestly, I wasn't expecting something this good. It's not exactly perfect, as there are a few issues with the script that I'll get into detail afterward. The film has some delightful performances, most notably-Enola Holmes herself. Millie Bobbie Brown is enjoying this role, as she delivers dynamic, compelling performance. Her character is well written, which also helps to enhance Millie Bobbie Brown's performance. The fourth-wall-breaking is surprisingly good, as it doesn't feel gimmicky or obnoxious.
Now, let's talk about the major flaw of this film. Ironically, it's also one of the mysteries that Enola Holmes was trying to solve-Her mother's disappearance.
Now, it seems like the film isn't quite interested in this plot, contrary to what the film wants us to think(or not). The characters constantly mention
how they have to "find their mother." which is supposed to, I guess, is to make the whole incident more urgent. Unfortunately, the film dumps the entire notion into the bin after the second half, when Enola decides to solve something more intriguing than her mother's disappearance. As a result, this storyline ends hastily and unsatisfyingly. The writers manage to answer none of the problems. Now, this wouldn't be such a big problem if they hadn't written it as one of the primary focuses of the film, but they did write it as one of the main plotlines of the film.
Overall, this film remains quite an enjoyable watch, despite its shortcomings.
Extra warning here-this is not a film for Sherlock Holmes fans, so don't go in expecting something similar.
Extraction (2020)
(sighs)come on.......
It seems to me that Netflix has made just another mediocre film.
Now, that's not to state that Extraction is a bad film. It's pretty enjoyable, the actors are quite good, and it has well-executed action. Unfortunately, the film's flaws drag it down, resulting in its forgetfulness and averageness.
Now, the film nails the emotional bits. These characters are likable just from the start of the film, thanks to the writers establishing our connection with them using a few effective scenes, and doubled with great performances from the actors, an array of great protagonists are created.
Unfortunately, the script fails in terms of originality, as the story follows familiar beats as other films, therefore diminishing the element of surprise. The film's side characters are often underdeveloped and underused, for example, Jake Tyler's boss. She gets more crucial to the story as it goes on, but it feels like the writers aren't interested in fleshing her out, as we get glimpses of her past, her relationship with the main protagonist, and more so, but these traits are ignored, leaving a caricature of a character.
Also, the action gets stale quite soon as it doesn't change throughout the whole film.
Finally, this film could be so much better, if it could focus more on either the characters or the action, instead of attempting to do both.
Bloodshot (2020)
Allright...
I got what I expected when I saw this film.
In the beginning, it seems like the film was going to be just one of those ''the wife gets killed, and the badass husband kills the bad guys'' genre film. Yet, Bloodshot manages to topple the audience's expectations by a brilliant twist, and by doing so, completely change the direction of the movie while giving the first half of the film a new layer to it. It seems like the film's going to be great, right?Hmmm...nope.
Now, even though the first half was fine, it wasn't great overall. The characterization is awful, which this goes for every character in the film, as the characters range from stereotype to complete absence. Take the guy who used to be blind until the company helped him build a new digital eye. He has no reason in being in this film, as his presence is unnoticeable, he has no personality whatsoever, and his demise feels lackluster. Same for other characters. The hacker is a walking Deus ex Machina with a bit of personality. The love interest is the love interest.
The story also loses its ingenuity after the twist, as it decides to rely on overused tropes and cliches to push the rest of the story forward.
Overall, this is a film that could leave its fate of mediocrity if the writers would spend more time developing the characters and the second half of the story.
Busanhaeng (2016)
The perfect zombie film we've been waiting for.
THIS IS CAT!!!!!
Anyway,intro's done.
Train to Busan(why is it called Busanhaeng?),is a film that effectively establishes an emotional connection with the viewers, with great character arcs,a tense and well-constructed plot, masterful acting by the protagonists,well-done morality and social commentary, all building up to one of the best finales of the decade.
Of course, one can't overlook the perfectly shot action, with zombies that are actually, antagonists and aren't overshadowed by the humans(equally brilliant).
Overall this is a film that entertains and tears you up at the same time, while
maintaining thrilling and tense throughout the whole film, without falling into the pitfalls of it's predecessors.
Yip Man 4 (2019)
Well,a finale that's okay.
Now,the creators didn't jump the shark at the end...but they were quite close.
The action is still well done, the actors still gave us a great performance, and it delivered a great ending to Up man's journey. On the other hand, the story is weak and cliched, the whole drama is melodramatic and emotionally manipulative, and the social issues feel somehow forced.Fortunately, the pros and the cons nuance each other,so the result turns out to be a slightly above average film.7/10
The Avengers (2012)
A perfect blockbuster-nothing else.
This film succeeds on many levels, the perfect use of CGI,the fair use of characters(superheroes)introduced in previous films, the fun and quirky tone, the quick pacing, great action and humor, all these traits build up to make The Avengers one of the best,decade-defining blockbusters. And thaaaaaat's all.It doesn't try anything particularly bold, like getting an R rating, mixing other genres,or asking questions that aren't superficial or simple.Sooooo...7/10.
Baekdusan (2019)
Korean/Hollywood Blockbuster.
THIS IS THE CAT!!!!!
Anyway,intro's done.Let's begin.
This...is quite simple to review. It is a blockbuster.
To be precise,a blockbuster is a film type that is mostly followed by several characteristics-
-huge budgets
-huge financial gain
-heavy use of CGI and special effects
-famous actors and actress
-basic,rudimentary,unoriginal storylines
-morally pure protagonists.
-pg-13
-positive endings
-large action sequences
Basically,this film has it all.
Hunter Killer (2018)
An average,enjoyable film.
The good,the bad,and the mediocre.
The good
The acting fits the the movie, the movie is well-paced.
The bad
It lacks logic and sense, and leans towards impossible luck.
The mediocre
Well, the story and the action fit this.
Overall it is a enjoyable film, yet easily forgettable.
Super 8 (2011)
nolstalgic and fun,but highly unoriginal.
This film is pretty good in several aspects:the story good, the acting is good, the whole homage to the 80s is also good.
But......it's too unoriginal. You've seen the twists, you know the direction of the movie, and it isn't jam-packed with enough 80s refrences to cash in solely on the nolstalgic.
Overall, this film is a enjoyable film without anything innovative.
Gisaengchung (2019)
A short review of Parasite.
To be short, this is a greatly directed, perfectly shot masterpiece with well-crafted characters that strike a balance between nastiness and sympathetic, and can be interpreted both ways;pitch dark humor that is both ironic and clever and fits the main theme, which perfectly blends horror with a satirical tone.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Good,but flawed film.
This is pretty great...it is one of the most underrated films I've ever seen. The acting is great(Ewan Mcgregor and Rebecca Fergusson both nailed their characters),the visuals were astonishing good and beautifully unnerving, the story isn't lazy nor cliched, and it pays homage to the original movie/novel while building a story of its own.Perfect!
Now,the film's main problem is that it drags towards the end and loses some steam in the middle.Fortunately, the ending is quite good.
Murder Mystery (2019)
A bit cliched but still funny.
This film leans more to comedy instead of murder mystery,so,for those looking for something like Knives Out,this isn't it.
This s a pretty good(or funny) parody of the murder mystery genres. It also heavily relies on the chemistry between the two leads, which is pretty good, and the plot is also good enough to keep you thinking.
However, some of the characters are wasted, some are are stereotypical(all, besides from the main leads),some parts of the story aren't logical.
Anyway, this film is very watchable, but for those who crave harder mysteries, don't watch this.
Captain Marvel (2019)
This is not a bad movie.
A lot of people don't like it .Okay,I get it.The main protagonist's powers are just a cheap plot device, the character doesn't have a good development(the movie can be split into two parts-no powers and powers),the action is cheesy, but that is not the point of the movie.Captain Marvel is a 90s buddy cop comedy! The villains aren't supposed to be another Thanos, they're just Hollywood villains. So,if you want to watch something serious, don't watch this.Watch this when your asking for entertainment.
Interstellar (2014)
A modern classic.
This is one of the best sci-fi movies ever.
The visuals in this films are breathtaking, epic and emotional, and with the epic soundtrack, they create an atmosphere that sucks you in like a black hole, and doesn't let you go until the end.
The characters are also well created, and the actors portraying them are at the top of their game here.Every scene is not wasted, and the emotions feel so raw that you can experience them yourself.
The plot is very interesting, with the help of Kip Thorne(the scientist that helped Nolan),makes the plot even more better.
The whole story is all about humanity, tenacity, and hope. It is a visually impressing film with deep messages and great acting.Nolan has done it again.

The Dark Knight (2008)
Masterpiece
This is one of the best and influenced superhero films out there. In fact,it defined the early DCU movie styles.(not a good thing)
This film is fulled with top-notch acting (especially Heath Ledger),great action scenes(and more interesting),and dark moral questions.
The joker represents terrorism, and the whole movie surrounds a question-how easy is it to influence people. The whole revolves around ethical questions.Joker is trying to proof his his idea that Gotham is rotten. Not only the villains, but the citizens, too. The point is,he wins. The both sides of the ship didn't blow each other up isn't because they're good,it is the sheer pressure the person who blows up the other ship will face.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
An flawed popcorn masterpiece.
This is an epic,or,an war epic.It probably one of the most epic films ever made.It is not perfect, but still one of the best movies ever.
Just as every marvel(the good ones) movie,it borrows a special genre. In this case, the war epic.It is magnificent to watch, with one of the best CGI effects people have ever seen. So,the flaw isn't the visuals. The character developments have been established by earlier films, and this film only deepens them. So,the characters aren't the problem, either. The biggest problem of this film is the plot.
The more convoluted a plot gets, the more frequently a plot hole appears. This film juggles a lot of plots,so naturally,a few plot holes appears.
Fortunately, this doesn't change the fact that this was a visual masterpiece.Unfortunately ,this sets up a high standard for cinematic universe finales. And the DCU.Let's just wish some film will achieve such greatness in the near future.
Stranger Things (2016)
Completely nolstalgic.(and hell of blender)
This is an interesting show.It feels like a 80s mash. No,the plot is not generic. That is not one of its strengths(it is a mash of movies). The strength is that it mashes movies and makes it good.It uses the all the good stuff in the eighties and mixes them together into a blender. And it is a hell of a blender.
Dark (2017)
Hell of a fictional "twist"er.
Like a fictional twister, everything blows you away. The acting is superb, the CGI is good, but what makes this show different from other shows is the twists.
Just as any good show,it has a tight structure, likeable characters, the point of the show is the twists. In the show, the whole story is based on twists and a few mysteries(plus a few bodies). So,watching the show, get prepared to be blown away(to Kansas)
