Why didn't they stay with: "There can be only one"?
12 January 2024
I was warned not to see this movie by a co-workter. Thank-you Beth. When a movie is disavowed by their creators you know it's bad. I learned while attending a Klan convention. The first told the story nicely. The reason for such a rating for such a lousey movie was Virginia Madsen's assets. I will say that Michael Ironside is one of the most underrated actors when it comes to playing villians. All I can ask is: "why" Why make such a movie?" Plot made no sense and Clancy Brown (who's Kurgan character is one of the greatest villians on the silver screen) was smart to deline a part in the film. Dumb movie.

The Judge (I) (1986–1993)

Very Hokey....
27 November 2023
You had family court cases that were unbelieveable. There was one case in which an elderly man is caught in a undercover vice sting with an explaination he was there for a legitimate massage while another defendant a district attorney has an lame excuse. The attorney was played by the actor who played Elizabeth Shue's father in the Karate Kid. Well the parlor was bugged and you hear the elderly man complaing about his condition while the attorney brags why he's there. Another case had a pizza delivery person accuse an African Amercan youth of robbing him. It turns out he was playing pool and was hustled. He remarks to the Judge: "Well I won the first game I thought I had a chance to win my money back."

Of course the cherry on the top was a child custody case where the father filed suit for custody of his daughter because his ex-spouse and her husband is taking her to Elvis conventions claiming she has the ability to "channel" the "King". If you looked up the definiton of "Trailor Park People" you'd see their picture. As for the "channeler" it was sooo fake. My father really enjoyed it though.

Underrated.

Gary Cole as Jack Killian was a masterpiece performance. As a night host on a radio he develed in subjects like A. I. D. S. before it became fashionable. It was also a pioneer in the subject of Asian hate crimes when.his friend. Billy Po is subject to a hate crime. Jack Killian's views seem to clash with his bosses especially the one Lisa Eilbacher.

Being woke before woke was a topic during the political for District Attorney when Killian voiced support for one candidate he was asked what do we know about his policies towards the homeless. Hello the job of a district attorney is to charge and prosecute criminals/

It was so had the series lasted after only three seasons.

Could this be done in today's climate?
16 November 2023
All lot of sterotypical cliches about the South. My question is, could they pull it off in today's woke culture? Richard Paul's performance as Mayor Teddy Burnside "Your Mayor By a Landslide" stole the show. We see how cultures clash in the newly post civil rights movement. Victor French's performance helped him break away from the meancing bad guy typecast. Getting back to Richard Paul, to see him play such a buffon of a character then watch how he performed on a game show was a one hundred and eighty degrees from his T. V. character. As in my title I believe the reason why you don't find on TVLAND or METV or other channels is because of the political incorrectness.

Better than I thought.

Warning: Spoilers
I always said don't let the critics decide what movie you want to watch.

My local newspaper gave "An Officer and a Gentleman" two starts. It turned out to be a wonderful romance and while I watched I predicted Louis Gossett Jr. Would win the "Best Supporting Actor Oscar" for his performance as Sargent Foley. 'Nuff Said.

Growing up in South Florida I saw first hand how important family was in the Latin Family structure. This was one thing I liked about the movie. What I didn't care for was the wokeness. What drew me to the movie was Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes. I am a big fan of his work on Cobra Kai and he doesn't miss a beat. Graduating from college he comes home ready to take on the world only to be disappointed landing a job at a hotel where he gets fired. Here he meets Jenny Kord played by Bruna Marquezine the "Black Sheep" of the Kord family neice of Victoria Kord played by Susan Sarandon. The actor who blew me away was Adriana Berraza's character "Nana" who goes from a typical grandma to "Rambolina". There were some hiccups but the movie is worth seeing. I believes it does deserve the sequel that the hint after the credit shows.

Interesting movie....
15 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My rating is five and a half stars for the movie and three and a half for Ashley Judd. Framed for murdering her husband she's sent to prison. Her anchor while serving her sentence are the conversations with her son. When after several attempts to contact her BFF who she asked to adopt him and care for him so he wouldn't to go into the foster care system. She manages to locate her friend who has re-located out of Washington state. Her friend played by the underrated.actress Anabeth Gish hems and haws telling her she planned to bring her son up next week to visit. While talking to her son he says with excitement: "Hi Daddy!" shocked by the fact she has been betrayed she plots her revenge with the advice of a fellow inmate who was disbarred after committing murder.

Judd's character leans her former friend died mysteriously and her ex and son has disappeared again. Finally confrontng the dirtbag he starts apologizing saying he only did it because they were in the hole financially and he didn't have the courage to committ.suicide. First of all that's a bunch of hog wash. In my brief time selling insurance to my knowledge no policy would pay off for a suicide.

Tommy Lee Jones puts in another stellar performane as a half-way house manager who fell from grace. He reprises his role as a bulldogish lawman.

An underated Speilberg movie.
16 July 2023
This is a wonderful "What If..."movie. This this the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories is from the point of view as per young John Watson. We see young Holmes displaying his awesome skills. Holmes does have a way of rubbing people the wrong way with his arrogance. Especially with a paticular chap named "Dudley" played wonderfully by Earl Rhodes. Watson and Holmes quickly form a friendship the former played by. Alan Cox while the latter by. Nicholas Rowe. Probaby the best performance is played by. Anthony Higgins as Professor Rathe.

The plot revolves around the mysterious deaths of men who die after suffering from mysterious induced hallucinations. The trail leads to a mysterious cult. This is a little far fetched but makes for great entertainment. While watching the movie after seeing it several times before something told me to continue watchin. The ending will blow you away.

Distancing herself from the Hunger Games...
7 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've posted several times that I thought Jennifer Lawrence is the finest young actress since Jody Foster. Ms. Lawrence portays an engenue who is hired by a pair of "helicopter" parents to make a man out of their sheltered son. I have to admit I didn't recognized Matthew Broderick as the Dad. What developes is a friendship which allows both parties to recognize their short comings and to conquer them. In addition they develope a friendship.

Ms. Lawrence channels her inner Katniss Everdeen when some idiots tries to steal her and her dates personal items. You also get to learn her pain. Facing the loss of her home because the dramatic increase in her taxes she resorts to drastic measures. I.have to admit I almost got up and walked out but the skinny dipping scene added two points for Ms. Lawrence or her body double's performance.

Great series
3 July 2023
Too bad this series only had fewer than fifty episodes. In a time where women were expected to be homemakers and obey their husbands Frankie was different. A former dispatch rider during World War I she uses her skills in ntellegence plus those she learned as a grifter to good use. Cases involving real life people such as CoCo Channel. Agatha Christie, and Ernest Hemmingway plus characters that are similar but not named directly. Frankie works with her partners Trudy, a Morals officer Mary from the Toronto Police department, and Mary who works in the coroners office but has more talent than her male counter parts.

The culturaly diverse characters makes thing interesting.

Judge Judy with a Southern accent.
31 March 2023
While I enjoyed the movie thought they went overboard with the country cliches. Reba McEntire was fantastic no nonsense judge. She resides a case over a "spoiled brat" and receives suggestion from the highers ups to let things go. Obviously she doesn't. Then she has to deal with her estrange father and his decling health. Her sister profession is shady. She comes across some courtroom coruption and in the end she ends up with an assistant. As from I gather from other revies I hope there are more movies if not a series. Like I said Judge Judy with a Southern accent. The was nice chemistry with the two actresses playing sister.

Very disapointing
28 March 2023
I found this movie very disaponting. I couldn't understand what Albert Finney was saying half of the time. The cast was an All-Star group with some Academy Award and future Academy Award winners in the ensamble. Agatha Christie is the O Henry to the murder mystery as the late Roddy Piper was famous of saying: "Just when you know the answers I change the questions." To me when it comes to Hercule Poirot I think of David Suchet.

The plot was taken from the famous Lindberg kidnapping case. When we finally learned "Who Done It" I felt it was anti-climatic. Jacqueline Bisset it a timeless beauty. M.

Some questions answered.
9 March 2023
I was pleasantly surprised with the first two Creed movies however, I always had a question: "What happened with Doni's half-siblings? We now have the answered. Adonis Creed enjoyed a successful career in boxing and successfully stepped away and is enjoying his family as well as running his gym and now as a promoter. Then enters his old running mate who was a very talented boxer until a run n with the law derailed his plans.

Now released after serval years he looks up his old friend. While reminescing the "good old days" Doni's friend mention he wants to get back in the ring. Doni feeling obligated wants to help his friend. He tried to get his friend a job as a sparing partner but his friend's anger blows it. He wants a title shot now.

While working things out for his next extravanganza the challenger is assaulted via Tonya Harding style. Forcing a similar situation with Apollo Creed and Rocky. Doni then realizes the he now must put the genie back in the bottle. I would have given the movie a higher rating if not for the ending.

Rizzoli & Isles (2010–2016)

Never make an .assumption well you know the rest.
3 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I first heard of the series I though a "Poor Person's Bones". As the title of my review states. I watched an episode and boy was I incorrect. Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles have a fantastic chemistry between them despite totally different backgrounds and tastes. Yet there are no more loyal friends. You have a great supporting cast from Jordan Bridges, Lorraine Bracco, and Animal House's D-Day Bruce McGill.

With cases varying from biological fathers to framing a main character for murder each case has their own unique style. One thing I have to say that I was very disapointing series finale. Let's hope Jane Rizzoli and Laura Isles can return as a special Lifetime movie.

Violent Night (2022)

What to you get when you combine Bad Santa, Home Alone, Die Hard, Die Hard II, and Greedy?
11 January 2023
I have to admit that there were "Laugh ot loud" moments, and touching moments. Violent Night is the story of a little girl who all she really wants for Christmas is to have her parents get back together again. Her father is a member of a one percent of the one percent family. In order to keep up appearances he convinces his estranged wife to come to the family mansion to spend Christmas. There waiting is the family matriarch wonderfully played by Beverly D'Angelo, alcholic sister played by. Edi Patterson with her boy toy and her Hunter Biden in the making played by. Alexander Elliot. But the show stopper Scrooge played masterfully by. John Leguizamo who has the ability to play such vasy characters as "Bennie Blanco" in Carlito's Way, to the chop shop owner in John Wick and John Wick 2.

You have a similar plot as n Die Hard and Die Hard II to the slapstick of Home Alone to Bad Santa, the family intrigue of Greedy. David Harbour protrayal of a burned out Santa is understated. Of course you have the plot twist as in Die HardII. I imagine there might be a sequel in the mix.

The darkside of the "Golden Age of Hollywood".
26 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I see that this movie is being considered a bomb. I can see why considering the movie runs for three hours. I was blessed with a private showing. Actually I was the only one in theater. While the movie was slow it was interesting. The movie revolves around three main characters: Manny Torres played by Diego Calva, Manny's quick thinking helps saves the day and puts him on the radar of the brass and his star rises to the title of being in charge of MGM's Latin America divison and eventually being the handler of the newest star Nellie LaRoy played beautifully by Margo Robbie. Then we have actor Jack Conrad silent superstar who like many of his fellow stars of that era had difficulty transfering to "talkies".

Under Jack Conrad's tuteledge Manny starts rising in Hollywood. While working security for a producer's party he meets Nellie La Roy and a failed romance begins. Nellie La Roy doesn't lack confidence about her becoming a star. When a starlet is unable to show up for tomorrow's shoot it's the standard being in the "right place at the right time". When the call: "Action!" Ms La Roy blows everyone away with her brassiness and turning into innocence.

Jack Conrad is trying to adjust but when he loses the one person who isn't to tell him the truth it's all down hill from there.

Suddenly no only does Ms. La Roy developes some vices she foolighly places her trust in her father (wonderfully played by Eric Roberts) her fortune from making movies is squandered. She comes to Manny for help and he of course helps. Needless to say the outcome isn't "They lived happily ever after."

Shout out to Jean Smart for her "Hedda Hopper" chatacter as well as Toby Maguire as the sleazy gangster. Depite the box office both Margo Robbie and Brad Pitt should be nominated for a Best Oscar performance with the former should be the winner.

Nice country boy in the big city show.
11 December 2022
This was a down to earth show that had a religous theme to it. Clint Cassidy went East for what he thought was the love of his life. His experience with the police having a rifle in his gun rack for the first of a cultural shock. Then his experience in a chi chi coffe house was another. He then clashes with an uptight doctor when it comes to treatig patients,

He then starts a flitatatious relationship with. Nurse Nancy Nichol. When the pratice elects to sell to a medical coglomerate Dr. Clint is exiled. Finally after proving the new administator was cooking the books things get back to normal. With issues such as an young man who is suddenly orphaned being able to find a home to fighting the beauracy of the insurance industry Doc finds away to prevail. Then when it was decided to cancelled the show they rushed through the conclusion. I was so angry I wrote the network a letter of protest for the first time ever.

Too P.C. ish
3 December 2022
The movie was nice. Got to be introduced to some new characters. Gordon Bombay fresh off of his "Minnasota Miricle" is recruited by a major sporting goods company to be the U. S. A. Juniors head coach. Now normally the roster would be an assorted individuals instead of being comprised of most of his former team. In addition he has players from such hockey places as Texas, Florida, and a former figure skater. The skater from Florida is a speed demon but hasn't learn to control it. The young man from Texas is a prodigy in puck handling, funny though I don't recall hocky being big in Texas. The figure skater does nice piroettes. There is a promising "enforcer" who will for a bond and become the team's "Bash Brothers".

Gordon tried to revive his dream of the NHL but thanks to a cheap shot the delays that. It seems the movie's bad guys are from the hockey power house Iceland. Even then the PC police were too scared about the Russians. Iceland is coached by former NHL player. "Wolf" wonderfully played by.: Carstan Norgard known for his borderline tatics on the ice. I don't know about you but I never heard of Trinidad and Tobago as a hockey power. It's he typical scenario of the coach looses focus and regains it in time to win back his team.

A ""Poor man's Love Cruise Maiden Voyage"
30 October 2022
For full disclourse I worked for Windjammer Barefoot Cruises for nineteen years and Capitain Stuart Larkum was a friend of mine. I will admit there were somethings done well but it wasn't working. Love Cruise Maiden had the misfortune of trying to premire on 9-11. This threw off the schedule and due to the appreoching MLB playoffs had to rush the episodes. It seemed like at a certian point they lost focus and had to improvise.

The good points of the show were giving power to the genders and when it came time to choose they would have throw in some "ringers." The concept if you were chosen you disembark at that port of call. I didn't care for the Capitain meeting with bartender and activitys mate of the goings on. The bartender should have not tried to be a female "Isaac."

She's a brain inside of a body of a gameshow hostess.
15 August 2022
This line is similar to a line in the classic rom-com "Say Anything" but it best describes Temperence Brennan. As attractive as Emily DeChannel is when she was in her "Bones" it at least tripled it. Joy Keenan was a child of parents who were outside the law. Givibg her the name Temperence Breenan in order to protect her and her brother from law enforcement and riminal alike. When her brother abandons her leaving her to the mercy of the foster care system until she's rescued by her grandparents. In order cope she developes shelds that if someone starts to get too close she pushes them away.

Enter Sealy Booth a degenerate gambler blue collar guy. Theese total opposites clash but has their partnership evolves they gradually grow closer denying that the two have feelings for each other. With the help of wildchild Angela Montenagro and others and after a tragic death they realize how much they care for each other. Other events occure to put their relationship to a test. What I found lacking were the sudden disapearance of "Bones" brother and Booth's mother and his step sibilings.

Boycott
4 August 2022
For the record I am boycotting Disney because of their insistence of shoving the LGBTQ agenda down children under a certian ages throat.

My objection is casting choces. The Norse Gods represented Noweigans and at that time were fair skinned. While Tessa Thompson is a fabulous actor casting her as Valkyrie to show diversity is lame. Now I know there will be protests over this but Iron Fist's girlfriend was African-American if she were portrayed by an Caucasian actor I would be the first to protest. Same for the character Sunspot who was bi-racial. Can you imagine they do a move about "Luke Cage Hero for Hire" and Dolph Lundgren was cast as the lead? Stoopid*

*Misspelled on purpose.

The story of Charlie Chaplin from his rise from poverty to worldwide stardom.

A complex man who had his shortcomings. During he McCarthy era Chaplin's views were well known. Why he didn't become a citizen of the United States who knows. He had the wisdom to see the threat Nazi Germany would become despite the ridicule of the Hollywood elites. A true comic genius.
