X (2022)
A Slasher made for arthouse weirdos like me
The slasher genre has never really done it for me. Always felt corny with jump scares and repetitive story.
But with X it really felt like Ti West was making this movie for me. For the people who are over those clichés. He did the perfect blend of aesthetic with good acting and a pretty original motive for the killers.
He also threw in so many iconic lines that were teased at the very beginning and brought back at the very end.
Mia Goth is incredible for that double performance. Will definitely be watching everything she puts out from here.
The Batman (2022)
Batman was a Cowboy
Within the first 10 min I knew this was going to be an absolute banger. Matt Reeves knew exactly what he was doing, he knew exactly how to make "another superhero movie". Honestly Marvel could never pull something like this off at their current state.
Pattinson was perfect and I loved the young inexperienced Batman. His monologue/ diary did so much for me. When he said he doesn't know if being the batman was actually helping It really just made him so relatable. Batman is usually a cocky rich prick but this Bruce has never been so human. His relationship with Alfred is beautiful... going from your not my dad to ok yea you are my dad was beautiful. That being said he had so many amazing moments with every character and it really felt like every character had their moments.
Jeffrey Wright is an absolute king and killed it as Gordon. Like this guy knows how to act and delivers every line with perfect timing. My jaw was just on the floor every time they were interacting. Zoe Kravitz perfect casting and she knew the assignment every scene. Farrell was hilarious and unrecognizable. Just a masterful performance. John turturro also gave an amazing performance and tbh the entire cast was perfect. The only one who fell flat at moments was paul dano as the riddler idk what it was I think they were just reaching for a ledger like performance.
The sound, cinematography everything truly came together masterfully. It somehow felt like a noir, western, detective super hero movie. Batman was a damn cowboy, stepping out of the shadows with his boots and just striking fear into everyone. My god what a movie. Idk how they pulled it off.
The King's Man (2021)
Bad Story - Fun Movie
I didn't hate this movie. I had low expectations from the negative reviews and was really able to enjoy it.
The cast was actually really good, I always love the way the kings man interact with each other. The proper and witty dialogue always gets me to chuckle.
This franchise is so popular because the first movie has some super innovative fight choreography and cinematography which this one kind of lacked.
They were really trying to push this crazy story onto us when in reality we just want another church scene from the first movie.
I think there's still hope for this franchise. If they push focus onto the likable characters and try to build around them instead of throwing 10+ villains at us in one movie.
Le mépris (1963)
A beautiful tragedy
This movie made me feel some of the deepest pain and sadness. Everything about their relationship felt real and extremely relatable.
Every shot is perfection. The beauty of it all for a tragic story makes it even more heartbreaking.
This is my all time standard for french new wave. When I'm looking for a new film to watch I want it to be just like this.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Tough out here for horror
Bad movie? Yes. As bad as everyone is making it seem? No.
The movie try's to incorporate woke culture and relevant topics which was completely unnecessary and cringey, but I don't see how this movie is any different from recent slashers.
It got straight to the point and gave a really cool look at leather face. I mean this guy is extremely scary and they did a great job using his size to strike fear into the audience.
Besides him the only other character I found likeable was actually the native Texan who is probably a bad person but at least in the time of chaos tried to step up for the judgy "influencers"
Was also strange how the main girl looked like jodie foster. Was that intentional?
To end this off I really think slashers should try and go back to mostly practical effects with the occasional aid of cgi. If they want to keep these movies low budget and entertaining, maybe just get creative? Maybe idk what I'm talking about but these types of movies just do not have the same feel as their predecessors.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
My perfect romance
This movie will forever be "the vibe" for me. Every shot is so beautiful and somehow strikes up a nostalgic, peaceful feeling for me. Maybe its my love for summer and the feeling of falling in love but I seriously feel transported. I also just love that the antagonist in this movie is time or just forces of nature that you can't control. Romances can get corny with classic clichés but this movie stays very true to itself and explores more realistic scenarios.
Lets not forget that Timothee Chalamet gives the best performance We've ever seen on the big screen.
