The Menu (2022)
6/10
Worth watching, but not as clever as expected
15 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is good, well acted by both lead actors. The story flows well, and the setting is great.

The problem is that the story never delivers on it's actual message.

The chef said there will be a difference between the staff and guests, and in the end there was none. The dialogue all builds up to this great collapse of the devide, which is The Menu's great outcome, yet it did not deliver any difference between working class and the rich. Both groups died seemingly willingly and in the exact same way.

The story just fizzled in the end with no lesson or feeling of guilt or vindication.

The back story of the chef is so shallow, and the reveal behind the silver door is a let down.

The more I write and think about it the less I like the movie actually.

Weird and awkward
22 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Although the movie is good, the movie is awkward in every aspect. The timing of shots can sometimes be just too long, jokes are made at unexpected times, camera angles are just a bit off. All in all it makes for an awkward movie experience. Add the "kid friendly" animal with childish cute actions, but 15 F-bombs by the rest of the cast, and the whole movie gets even wierder.

This is not a movie for kids, even though it is advertised as a cute animal story. Age restriction is only 13, which is a blatant lie, and traumatised my 13 year old. It should be rated no lower than 16. Its only due to the propeganda involved that the critics rate it highly and allow the lower rating.

Animal "rape", animal killing, and torture is not for any 13 year old to enjoy. Even though its only cgi, it has an emotional attachment, and the animals depicted are way more inteligent than any real animal alive on earth. No real animal will lift a electric fence and ask another animal to save their young. In conclusion, this is an unsettling movie, thats not enjoyable to watch.

Pure movie, no political statements for a change
9 June 2022
Everything about this movie is enjoyable. Its not perfect, and not the best movie ever, but it sure made for my number one movie experience ever. The action sequences is some of the best in movie history, and I believe it can only be fully appreciated and experienced in IMAX.

I especially loved the fact that the movie did not try to force any political statements or sentiments onto us. No woke agendas, and even the enemy remained nameless and faceless.

Pointless story with no resolution
6 May 2022
Maybe if you enjoy some strangers home movie, you might enjoy this.

I pushed through the pointless child acts to the end, hoping for some payoff, but there was none. No joy, no hope, no pain, nothing.

I wanted the movie to be something, anything, but its just nothing.... Pointless.

Technically its great and beautifully done, but this can be said about a piece of art. Only this movie is like staring at a piece of art in a strangers house for 2 hours while they are away, only to get home and realize you have the same art at home.

I think it just received too much praise for what it is.

Just boring.
19 April 2022
I had no emotional attachment to any of the characters. Boring songs sang at random places. And every song ends with a crescendo. Why?

Good acting, but just such a boring story. I had to really force myself to watch to the end.

I tried, really, I tried

This is what a primary school play would look like if it was turned into a movie.

I tried finding something good in it, and the best I could do was that the salad in the beginning of the movie looked delicious.

Pretentious obvious mockery
5 November 2021
Watched it hoping for something good. Found a girl that swears non-stop. Writers trying to make her look and seem masculine by making her crude and obnoxious. Propaganda at its best.

I can not understand how it is rated as pg13 on Netflix. Probably because they want to force this propoganda down our kids throats.

Not a bad movie, just buthurt reviewers
1 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The reviews on here all seem to be written by the same group of people. All of them seem buthurt in some way against the producer or director of the movie.

Yes there is nothing special about the movie, but it makes for good watchable entertainment. Gritty and real at some points, but really stupid in others. For me it seems like the stupid and silly parts all come from scenes that is not part of the original graphic novel. The acting wasnt bad, and the action was good. The plot was captivating enough to keep us all watching to the end.

Silly and stupid things in the movie is: using diesel to burn the guy and then it explodes like a bomb. Driving a truck through concrete slabs and metal gates like a hot knife through butter.

Shooting each other with rifles right next to each other from two pickups, and no one gets hit by bullets.

Truck is shot at by machine guns and not one bullet penetrates the cabin.

They could have removed Sharlto Copley's character and story line from the movie as it added nothing.

In the end this movie is tons better than The Tomorrow War in all levels.

Dont expect anything
5 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good start to the movie, thats all. As soon as captain marvel enters the plot, the whole movie falls apart. Dialog becomes meaningless. Characters become bland. The plot goes haywire and loses all direction.

For the rest of the movie you keep asking, "Why?" Why take the female to the most secure place humans have left?

Why have zero guards to keep it sedated.

Why did her dad have to take the serum back?

And a few hundred more questions.

There is zero emotional connection to the characters. And zero intrigue with the plot. Even my kids laughed at the story and acting.

The CGI monsters were cool, but the CGI Teslas were not.

Extremely irritating and unnecessary
29 February 2020
After seeing so many good reviews from online sources, I thought I had to watch this. I am sorry I spent time doing so. The sound track kills the movie for sure. It is loud, intrusive and instead of adding to the intensity, rather irritates the viewer. Add people talking over each other all the time to the anoying soundtrack and you have one big noise. I kept turning the sound down on my home theater system until I had to stop the movie. It actually gave me a headache. Sandler was good in the movie, but during the dramatic crying scenes, I just could not believe his sadness or humiliation. It felt like he was little Nicky as an adult. I did finish watching it, and it left me sad, annoyed and irritated. It is a movie my wife would call "unnecessary" and this time I have to agree with her.
