Echo in the Canyon (2018)
Superb - Easily A Top Candidate For Music Docs
Brilliant in that the merging of younger artists capturing the spirit of the times, meshing seamlessly with the cast througout, alongside perfect song selections, arrangements and performances.
In recent years, hands down a top flight music documentary and the way it was done makes it really unique, showing that older music that actually meant something, can transcend generations. No Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber to be found for the kiddies.
Saw this in the theater, seen it 3 times and own the vinyl.
Now they should produce one for the NY/singer-songwriter period.
Congrats to Jakob Dylan and all those who participated. Highlights include contributions from Beck, Norah Jones, Cat Power, Fiona Apple, Jade Castrinos and heavy hitters from Crosby to Michelle Phillips, Stills, Ringo, Jackson Browne also provide some insight of the incredible era.
Empire of Light (2022)
Really Good Film
You know with Mendes/Deakins you're getting the best, but Colman and Ward steal the show. I am perplexed by the lower reviews here with all the hot garbage that is released in cinema these days. God forbid a human being story is told as opposed to another explosion/action film or super hero movie. This one has incredible acting, storytelling and has obvious pertinent themes that ring as true today (unfortunately) as they would have 40 years ago. Mendes is up for best Director, Colman for best Actor and Ward for best supporting and it's easily in the running for
film of the year. If you want glitz and flash with trendy crap, look elsewhere.
Four Games in Fall (2020)
The Real Cheater is Roger Goodell/Owners
You had to follow this framejob day to day and not listen to ESPN to be able to get to the truth and this documentary does a great job documenting the chronology of the events, mainly with the science used and the legal angle that's covered, ironically by a Jets fan, who admits the Patriots were in fact framed with a known lie by Roger Goodell and the NFL lawyers. A friend of mine is a Patriots fan and knew they were being framed. But this objective documentary is detailed and ties up the loose ends Roger Goodell hoped you'd never find out about because it shows what the NFL front offices are all about, which is money and ego, not the science or truth.
