The Rig (2023)
Leaves you wanting to throw yourself off an oil rig
This is one of the worse things I've watched in a long time. There's several well known British TV actors in this and it left me wondering how they ever read the script and thought a part in this was a good idea,
Dated special effects and pedestrian direction coupled to a lame duck (and at times absurd) storyline made me wish I too was stuck on an oil rig with no communications just to prevent me from stumbling across this drivel on Prime.
Apparently, some ancient organism has come up from deep underground via an oil well. However, it probably got bored like the audience and decided to go back underground for another 150 million years as that was a less dull alternative than a second series of this rubbish.
Fisherman's Friends (2019)
Sunday night TV
A film that never gets above the level of a Sunday night tv drama that's been made into a movie. It was pleasant enough I think, though I remember little if it. If it wasn't singing fisherman, it could be singing army wives or Susan Boyle's. Formulaic.
Playing the Field (1998)
90s nostalgia
A watchable 1990's drama with a cast of whom many went on to be regularly featured on UK television in the following decades.
The series capitalised on the 'ladette' culture prevalent in Britain in the late 90's, which (perhaps paradoxically) tried to show women challenging stereotypes of the female gender by being, well, a stereotype of men.
The plot revolves around the rise of a women's football team who (despite regularly consuming enough lager to fell a silverback gorilla) appear to rise through the ranks of the game, whilst leading turbulent lives which would have left Brian Clough in his prime considering a change of career.
