Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)
An Oscar for Sidney
If Lumet doesn't get an Oscar for this gripping thriller it would be a travesty. It is truly a masterpiece. This movie, on its surface, is about a heist gone wrong and that story is enough to warrant high praise, but the underlying tale about corrosive family relationships that lead to tragedy and destruction is Shakespearian in nature.
Everything from the screenplay, the pacing, the editing, to the acting is superb. Philip Hoffman is brilliant, but I must say that I was surprised at being, at least, equally impressed with Ethan Hawke. The rest of the cast, which includes the very talented, Marisa Tomei and the legendary Albert Finney, down to smallest of roles are as perfect an ensemble as you'll ever see in in film.
If you haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favor and go as soon as you can.
Swing (2003)
Infectiously Romantic
Saw this film Last monday at NY Film Festival. It has 2 very appealing leads and a solid cast. Its a romantic comedy that tugs at the heart strings and serves up some hot swing music. Its a winning combination that is definitely a chick movie and will also pull in the crowd hungry for nostalgia. What more could you ask for?

The Guru (2002)
This is a terrifc comedy folks not a disertation on Indian life. The audience(including all the Indians) loved it!!!!!!!
A very funny & intelligent movie that spoofs all stereotypes, American as well as Asian. A real good hearted, feel good movie with some wise insights into peoples' foibles. The cast, the songs & the dancing are awesome. Much better than so called romantic comedy "How to Lose A Man In Ten Days"
Just a Kiss (2002)
rewarding dark comedy....A must see!!!!!!!!!
Fisher Stevens directs a brilliant cast in a quirky dark comedy about the attraction and ultimately the pitfalls of infidelity. The clever use of animation along with the live action enhances the appeal of the film which a variation on the theme of the french movie "La Ronde" and the American take off of that picture "Moulin Rouge." Ron Eldard and Kryra Sedgwick are excellent as the protaganists in the movie but Marisa Tomei as the "Force of Darkness" is brilliant in every scene she's in. A must see!!!!!!!
King of the Jungle (2000)
a look into the heart of the urban jungle
Saw this movie on the 5th of Nov.. It's a look into the heart of the urban jungle with an outstanding cast operating on all cylinders. John Leguizamo gives a tour de force performance as a retarded young man trying to cope with overwhelming problems, including his mother's violent death.
Rosie Perez, Marisa Tomei and Anabella Sciorra are among an all star cast that breathe fire and passion into this intense drama.
In the Bedroom (2001)
a film of rare insight and emotional power
I saw this film at a screening in N.Y. and it just astonished me. The story was so powerful and the emotional nuances were so true. Rarely do American directors take the chances Todd Fields takes in this movie and more rarely do they pay off as they do here. A story of a family and a town rended by events that are cataclysmic yet personal. The cast headed by Sissy Spacek is superb. This is a must see
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
I didn't laugh very much at all
The movie was as silly as any I have ever seen. Actually, I didn't laugh at the situations in the film but rather found them to be embarrassing. It also seems to me that the film was really a copy of a lot of other romantic comedies without much intelligence. When are American film makers going to create something with a spark of originality.
