Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
Fantastic except for ending
The movie was excellent, absolutely excellent, except for the last 20 minutes. These two guys survived a brutal war only to risk death by stealing a few eggs? The main character is going to allow two trucks to just drive by while his friend is fatally wounded? Main character was stabbed literally 5 seconds before the ceasefire? Whats up with the 30-second still shot of the main character's face at the end? I realize they had to stick to source material, so a lot of my gripe about the ending is a critique of the source material (not the movie)...but come on, these events/choices just seemed so farfetched compared to the rest of the film. They absolutely didn't ruin the film (overall it's fantastic and everyone should watch it)...I just found them annoying and avoidable. With that said, this is a must see!
What Is a Woman? (2022)
Fantastic!
From a documentary perspective (ignoring political beliefs), this is a fantastic film. A must-watch for everyone who's curious about what is happening to gender in America.
In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
EXCELLENT Horror Film
Plot/Storyline is excellent, pacing is great, acting (specifically Sam Neill) is superb...all around one of my favorite horror movies that's still relatively unknown. Fantastic horror movie, highly recommended!
Asylum of Fear (2018)
How is this a 5.9?
Are we watching two different movies here? This movie getting a 5.9 is LAUGHABLE. The reviews had to come mostly from people involved with the making of the film. It's a terrible movie.
Scream (2022)
HOW TF DOES THIS HAVE A 6.5??!!!
This movie is awful. Aggressively, unabashedly awful. It's like a couple of Freshman theater majors with a high-dolllar camera filmed their semester project and it was somehow picked up by Paramount. I turned it halfway through after reaching my breaking point. DO NOT WATCH!!
The Possession of Michael King (2014)
Sound ruins the movie
OMG, the most annoying movie I've ever watched in my life, due 100% to the alternating sound level. This film could have been really good and scary if not for the ridiculous changes in sound volume. They try to scare you with this loud ringing that the character hears as he becomes possessed, but they absolutely ruined the experience by having the ringing be 10x louder than the rest of the movie. So, the entire movie, you're having to turn the volume up and down and up and down and up and down. It's the worst thing I've ever watched single-handedly due to the moron Audio director who thought this would be a cool "trick".
The Last Samurai (2003)
To all the negative review's
Anyone writing a negative review citing "historical inaccuracy" or "too cheesy" is just daft, and a consequence of their own ridiculous expectations. Nobody watches a Tom Cruise movie expecting a documentary. Nobody watches a Tom Cruise film to see him die in the first ten minutes. This is a movie meant to entertain, and it does that from start to finish. Wonderful performances all-around, particularly from Watanabe. If you havent watched this movie, you need to. And if you're trying to learn about Samurai or Japanese culture, then pick up a textbook. Don't blame the movie for your own ignorance.
Ying xiong (2002)
Best movie I've watched in a long time
This film blew me away. Everything down to the use of color, the music, the special effects...all perfectly executed. Superb acting, superb plot, superb directing & cinematography. This is going into my Top 20 favorite movies of all time. A MUST SEE!
Blazing Saddles (1974)
One of the funniest movies you'll ever watch.
You can't make a movie like this today. Not because it doesnt condemn racism (it does), but because it doesn't have that woke, virtue-signaling SJW crap dripping off its jokes like slime. I seriously hurt for society when gems like this movie can't be appreciated as satire. Don't let anyone tell you different...this movie is smart, its hilarious, it has a moral vector, and it is rewatchable. One of the funniest movies you will ever see by one of the best directors to ever grace Hollywood.
Needful Things (1993)
Underrated
Very underrated movie. It doesn't waste a lot of time with subplots or unnecessary filler. The acting is fantastic. And while it may not be a 10 (I do that to offset the 1s), it is a really good movie.
The Devils (1971)
Boorrrrrriiinnnng
Straight-up snooze fest. I've been to funerals that had more excitement.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Absolutely terrible
This is supposed to be a horror series. It is anything but horror. They went out of their way to omit horror from this series. Absolutely dreadful acting (I think it was done on purpose?), the writing was juvenile and overly cheesy, and the storyline was boring.
I loved the Haunting of Hill House. This is the worst follow-up I've ever seen on a TV series. This is way worse than True Detective Season 2, or Westworld Season 2. Such a shame that a show with this much potential could be reduced to this rubbish.
À l'intérieur (2007)
Who the hell is rating this movie??
WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?? This was one of the worst movies I've seen in the past two years. Everything about this movie is just ridiculous and over-the-top. It started ok but quickly devolved into an eye-rolling cringefest as unbelievable act after unbelievable act rolled across the screen. The climax sucked, the ending sucked, the storyline sucked... Just a complete suckfest. The people rating this movie must be the mouth-breathers who love Transformers. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, THIS MOVIE IS AWFUL IN EVERY WAY.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Best superhero movie out there
I'm not much into comic-book/superhero movies. They just aren't my thing. So when I say that Thor:Ragnarok is a fantastic movie, know that it's an unbiased assessment. This movie is very fun with lots of action and humor, the acting is fantastic, the pacing is great, etc. I can't really say anything negative about it.
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
Great horror movie.. don't believe naysayers
I've watched alot of horror movies in my life. Horror movies from every era and spanning every subgenre. While Thirteen Ghosts is by no means the best, it is not near as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be. The scares were there, the visuals were there, the acting was meh, the storyline was there. The movie didn't get mired down with an unnecessary, drawn-out side plot and didn't involve alot of fluff (something that plagues alot of horror movies). The look of the ghosts was fantastic. Overall, it makes a great late Saturday night movie.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Michael Bay is just awful
I've never been in the military. I don't know the facts about Benghazi. My review is simply from a movie critic standpoint (I'm no critic, just a fan of film). This movie was atrocious. The dialogue was childish and pandering. The special effects were typical Michael Bay...explosions and action that still didn't feel like action. The acting was poor and unbelievable. I just don't understand why this movie is getting such high ratings, but I imagine it's from people who sympathize with the para-military operators whose lives were lost. And there's nothing wrong with that...I sympathize too. My beef has nothing to do with the story itself, but it has everything to do with the filmmaking. If you're 12 yrs old or younger, you may like this movie. Anything older and you're going to want to avoid it.
Busanhaeng (2016)
AWESOME Horror Moviey
This film does the zombie subgenre right! The acting, directing, cinematography, pacing...all of it was nearly perfect. Everyone I've introduced this movie to ended up loving it. This isn't a slow-burner, where you end up waiting until the second half to get action. Within the first 30 minutes, you're on the edge of your seat. I've rewatched this movie about 3-4 times and never seem to get tired of it.
If you're a fan of horror movies, do not pass this one up.
Gisaengchung (2019)
This film is fantastic
I don't write long reviews, and I'm not going to here. All you need to know is that this film is one of the best I've seen in a long, long time. Acting was superb, directing was world-class, plot was near perfect. Seriously, go watch this movie right now.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Ok, but didn't need the excessive language
I'm an adult. Words don't hurt me, nor do they offend me. But this movie uses excessive language that actually detracts from the storyline. The writers tried so hard to be edgy that they threw in "F" about 40 times where it wasn't needed. I'm fine with using language that would be considered fitting for the situation, but I've watched Tarantino movies that didn't have this much cursing. It starts becoming a nuisance about halfway through, and that's why the movie didn't get a 7/10 from me.
The Loudest Voice (2019)
Boring and Beyond Bias
I usually don't care what "slant" a film/show takes. We all have opinions and we all want people to know them. But this show goes beyond slanted and into the realm of downright misleading. You will not get a remotely accurate portrayal of Fox or Ailes in this show. Instead, it's a microphone for leftist directors and actors who have an agenda..and that agenda is not making a good show. As for the show itself, It's too slow-paced to keep anyone's attention. The only people who like this show are those who agree with it's politics and care nothing about the actual content. For those of you who will simply write my review off as conservative trolling, I propose this: let's have Sean Hannity make a show about Ted Turner and see if you still have the same amount of enthusiasm.
The Houses October Built (2014)
Surprisingly good...6.5/10
So I gave this a 10/10 to make up for some unfairly low scores that this movie has gotten. I'm reality, it's a ~6.5/10. I've seen about every horror movie under the sun, and this one is actually pretty decent. It's the classic "shaky camera group of young cocky adults ask seek out extreme scares but get something far worse in return" but the creep factor is surprisingly good. Definitely makes you wish it was Halloween. If you're looking for a no-thrills horror movie, check this one out.
Alone in the Dark (2005)
WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!
I ask you, what have we as humans done right enough to earn such a divine actor-actress duo as Christian Slater and Tara Reid? These two godsends decided to treat the world when they came together to create this Tour-de-Force. The medium of television is removed as you are transported to a world unlike any other, created by visionary Uwe Bill. Feasting on man's most core fears, the scares are authentic and nightmarish in nature. In short, this star-studded theatrical delivers magic from start to finish.
Just kidding, it's an absolute turd of a movie.
