Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
Not completely bad?
Pros:
Authentic
Cinematic shots
Comedic relief
Cons:
Disorganized at times
Zac has many ditsy moments where I find myself amazed at his lack of basic knowledge when discussing things with guides/experts
Slighty pseudoscience-y
Itaewon Keullasseu (2020)
Korean Values and Work Ethic
We have two hardworking business men at the focal point of this story. One of wholesome culture and the other of brutality on the way to the top.
The overarching theme is great. However, I would like to say the main male character could have a little more depth. Yes, I understand his personality is written to be stoic but at some points he, for lack of a better description, seems autistic. This is fine of course, just weird as his character is sculpted to pure but his non-verbal dialogue is sometimes just 'off'.
Busanhaeng (2016)
Want a happy ending? This aint it chief
Or maybe it is depending on how optimistic you are...
I enjoy films like this-- where the bad guy is winning over and over again. I hate predictable storylines and I am glad to say this film had me on edge.
Also, can I also mention how amazing the tiny actress is? She is going places for sure! I cannot wait to follow the main actors and actress and see what other films they have starred in.
The CGI, although not a major detriment, took away my attention slightly and broke the wall between story and film but AGAIN not a complaint, just a mention.
8/10!
Sex Education (2019)
Refreshing, cute, and quirky
This show is unique. I usually dont like comedies but the real-world conflicts of teenagers these days plus asinine humor got to me.
Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (2020)
Compelling but unnecessary asides at times
I enjoyed watching, but the asides from Aaron's suppose highschool gay lover could have been cut. What is the point of the guy and his father discussing that the father is okay, abelit was reluctant at first, from the reality that is son is gay? Multiple clips from this convo provided nothing to the story.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Tarentino did it again
I just adore that fact you can tell it's a tarentino film if its whitty but hard hitting at the same time.
Midsommar (2019)
LSD
Felt like I was tripping again with the visuals. Love the camera work. Love the cast being upcoming actors and not established vets.
Gisaengchung (2019)
So many twists and turns I got whiplash
I thought I knew what was happening but it turns out I didnt even know what I didnt know.
Cinematography was so well done. Comedy relief at the exact moments it needed it. My stress levels at a max the entire last quarter I had to physically cover my gaping mouth with my hand.
Léon (1994)
Very much enjoyed
Loved the ideas just didnt like some of the acting from actors in some of the smaller roles, otherwise I was blown away.
Enjoyed the many twists
Good Time (2017)
Very Much Enjoyable Film
Unique storyline and great cast.
Loved the direction and dialogue.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Star Wars Episode II ft. Creepy Aniken
I watched this movie for the first time right after episode I (also watched for the first time).
Right off the bat, I think some scenes and dialogue were unnecessary-- especially the one where Ani is complaining about sand...
Graphics in some scenes were horrible.
I think Hayden Christensen did a poor job of portraying Aniken. I did not read the comics so maybe I am off for saying this is wrong, but I did not enjoy seeing his slightly creepy facial expressions during almost every scene, including the lovers scenes. Did not set the mood for me at all.
Am I also weird for saying the fight scenes were way too long? That may just be a preference of mine.
Overall it was an interesting story line but far out from what I expected this hyped up franchise to be.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Newb and not sure what to expect
I was and have never been a part of the 'star wars fandom' before or knew the background stories so I saw this with un-bias, fresh eyes.
This was the first movie I have seen of the series as I was told it was the first in chronological order.
First off, I would like to recommend closed captions. It is very hard to follow the names, species and places based in this non-fictional world without reading it as well.
About the film... I thought it was a very creative storyline. The graphics were okay for the time period it was made in (circa. 1999). The fictional hierarchy order of the lore was cool too once I understood it.
I did think that dialogue could have been improved as it was pretty dry and stoic. I also came across a few plot holes, inconsistencies, and "it just works that way" scenarios which is a pet peeve of mine.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
Honorable Homage
First off, what a great representation of Mr Rogers the person-- the same person as seen on TV. His cadence, his soft spoken speech, and his mannerisms were beautifully translated by Tom Hanks.
This delicate topic was discussed in a very unique with a non-biopic twist.
I thought the replicated graphics and stage set were amazing.
The one-minute "think about who created you" scene was true magic.
The Witcher (2019)
Witcher
Although I am only on episode 6 of this show, I feel that my watch time is significant enough to write this review.
I have three major statements:
1. The witcher character, himself, does not feel fully developed. There really isn't enough depth to him. Basically he is just a good guy who chases money and avoids killing kind monsters/people. Although this does seem like an exploitable aspect that potentially can have a lot of movement in emotion and experience, I do not feel that in the writing. Its a lot of "help me out and I will pay you" "no" "but i need help" and then the witcher inevitably ends up in the exact same scenario he just said no to contributing to.
2. What is up with the timeline? Now, although I did not have complete undivided attention while watching this show, I would find myself confused as the episodes progressed.
At one point the characters mention a time gap of 12 years that was completely unrecognized by me.
3. Some side story-lines were incomprehensible to me. I understand the show is based on a book series but for people who have not read the book, the show fails to make essential connections for the viewers.
