Realistic Family Values and Counterparts
6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie, while slightly dramatic, exhibits many useful and positive ways that two people overcome social differences in order to be together. Ian and Toula just overall want to be happy and in love, which Ian's family does not mind, but Toula's family objects to just because Ian isn't Greek. This is something not seen as much or rather as frequently in society depending on where you live, but it does still happen. Ian and Toula are not that different, their cultures might be, but that should not and does not stop them from being together.

This is by far my favorite family movie, and has something for everyone to laugh at.

Who is her Father?
6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are a few issues I have with this movie. The biggest issue is that Sophie has spent her whole chasing this idea that only her father should walk her down the aisle and because she has never met him she decides to bring all three men who could potentially be her father to her island for the wedding, which is absurd. Instead of just trying to talk to Donna more, she takes it upon herself to create chaos.

Another issue I have is the idea that Sam, Harry and Bill all feel some sort of familial or rather parental connection to Sophie, without them even knowing se is looking for her father until towards the end of the movie. None of them reject the idea of being her father at all, not even in the slightest which is fairly unrealistic. The best part is that no one even asks for a paternity test to be done to prove who her actual father is. In the real world this would most likely be the first thing people have done and then go from there. There is no, we are family and I love you and want you to be part of my family even though we just met and know nothing about each other.

This movie is fun to watch, but gives people unrealistic ideas as to how you can go about finding your long lost parent, or father in this case.

Worth Separating a Family?
5 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The Parent Trap is a great, fun and exciting movie to watch as a family; however, it is incredibly important to note that from a sociological view on the role of the family in society, this movie is bad. The movie basically states that separating twins at birth just because you and your partner no longer work is the right thing to do, even though that means they will grow up without both their parents present, as well as their twin!

Hallie and Annie grow extremely close over their summer excursion at camp, and deciding to switch places just so the other can spend time with the parent they lived with is somewhat selfish, yet somewhat genius. Afterall, they truly did nothing wrong to deserve growing up without both their parents present in their lives.

I will say that this movie makes the relationships between everyone seem rather trivial and like just being blood related to someone means that you will automatically have a bond with them, but at least the movie makes everyone laugh and smile.

Addition of a Father
5 December 2019
This movie does a great job at allowing the audience to see a somewhat real but mainly fictional interpretation at what it could be like to reunite with a missing parental figure as an adult, or rather soon to be adult. Daphne and Henry do not have a great relationship right away, and it is important to note that just being blood related to someone, does not automatically make a deep and meaningful connection between you both.

Unrealistic Step Family
4 December 2019
This movie demonstrates an unrealistic perspective on what the life of a rather large step family would be like. The movie itself is funny and engaging, but quite unrealistic in the sense that it takes longer than a couple of weeks to get to know other people and bond with them, especially when those people are your new siblings and/ or new parental figure.
