Strange World (2019)
Underated Show, Some Unbelievable Stories
Ok so I haven't seen his documentary, but I will say I LOVE the style and format and the production value of this show. His voice over is PERFECT and the camera angles are AMAZING and I was truly enjoying that aspect of this show. The topics are great but some of the ghost hunting was a little too cheesy and really seemed just done for show. If you really want to investigate paranormal, bring in some real scientists and ghost "experts" and don't just trust a stupid REM pod (especially around production equipment and radios). But other than that, the mystery of it all, the amazing camera and voice over work and even the soundtrack makes me think reality version of Stranger Things / Mr. Robot style and that's pretty epic. I'd love to see more but maybe leave the ghost stuff up to the others.
Destination Fear (2019)
All Other Reviewers Must Be Highschoolers
Ok so I've read the other reviews and I swear they are all high schoolers that watch the YouTube ghost hunting children do their thing... yes its not technically a "paranormal" show but it's definitely not an evaluation or study of fear unless there is a scientist in the background that doesn't talk or say anything about the results. So what you have here is a bunch of high schooler type children running around and screaming, fun at first but extremely annoying after 1 episode. For those of you who actually enjoy paranormal investigating, this show is pretty lack luster. REM pods are going off when they use the radios, they all scream contaminating the evidence, so from the paranormal side credibility is all lost. Entertainment wise its ok, but then again unless you love the children on YouTube who go around with K2's screaming and acting like brats, then you really won't enjoy this show one bit.
Ghost Hunters (2004)
Decent Re-Start
So to the other reviewers out there, this show stuck pretty darn close to the original format and has the original production team / company so enough with the hate. Don't compare this to other shows out now, yes Ghost Adventures finds way more "evidence" but we all know orbs are just dust or bugs so please. I think Grant is an amazing orator who is intelligent in this field and understands where it needs to go. This is the first show I have seen them use data loggers in this way and actually using them to display and analyze data over time! Ghost Lab attempted this but didn't exactly go into the full analysis mode as these guys do. Yes it can be a little boring at times but that's the nature of the beast and they specifically try not to jump or run (which I'm not fully in agreement with) to prove their professionality but in reality that's what makes these shows interesting is the human reactions that the audience will most likely have in the same situation. Keep up the good work A&E, this and the Pennhurst Ghost Hunt show has literally hit it out of the park for me and I am hoping to see way more. Ghost Nation on the other hand, well read my review on that and you will see my thoughts.
Advice: Keep using the data loggers and showing the values and graphs like no other group has done in the past. Keep going to the interesting places and avoid the private homes (which are boring). If you want to help people use more of Kristen as a psychologist (if she really is) and explain that these things are mostly in the human mind. And please don't act like there is no way of being attached by or oppressed by an entity, evil is out there whether you believe it or not and this can get dangerous if you open yourself up too much.
Ghost Nation (2019)
Sad Counter to A&E's Ghost Hunters
Ghost Hunters started the genre in the US and has enabled all paranormal programming to be where it is today. So thank you Jason and Grant for this and for your original show. Ghost Nation however, is, in my opinion, a sorry attempt to counter A&E's Ghost Hunters because everyone couldn't agree to play along nicely. And for this, I think Ghost Nation is failing miserably. From a production standpoint the voiceovers are done terribly and they either need new microphones or a better audio mixer / editor. Even the audio in the live scenes seems re-recorded or staged and totally makes the show come off as unbelievable. Even on a subconscious level when you are not actively trying to focus on it the fact that the audio is so bad draws negative attention to itself. The cheesy ghost graphics are what really irk me and although they look "cool" and props should go to the graphic artist, they just take you out of the reality aspect that this show is supposed to embody.
The private homes are "great" for "helping people" but in all reality helping people in the paranormal world should rely more on psychologists and not ghost hunters. As an entertainment value, prisons, hospitals, buildings, castles and tunnels are WAY more visually interesting and that's what TV is all about in the first place. Yes Ghost Adventures is way over the top and is getting too "dark" in recent seasons but those guys are entertaining to watch, have personalities and aren't afraid to jump when they get startled (like 99.9% of the human populations regardless if you believe in the paranormal or not). If you are going to be "serious" ghost hunters then at least attempt to actually document something with scientific equipment and instead of not using equipment you don't agree with explain why and how you can improve it. I just got done watching "Worlds Biggest Ghost Hunt" on A&E and that group actually gets it! Debunking the fad equipment and building methods to use it in new ways to rule out interference is just common sense, that's what these guys need to be doing. In many ways that show embodied the old Ghost Hunters we have all come to love and even pushed the boundary further.
At the end of the day, this show in particular is a total dud, but if they work out the format and make it more entertaining it can get better, maybe. For now I'm sticking with A&E's Ghost Hunters with the original format and production crew since they are way closer to the original that this show is.
Advice: explore new places or places that are visually appealing, watching a ghost hunt of a private home may be exciting in person but not from the TV. The history you guys find is so loosely tied to the site its just grasping at straws, if you can't find anything please don't even use it. The non-night vision shots are kind of silly and again takes you out of the reality aspect and into the drama / acted out scene realm which again ruins the reality mood. If you aren't using IR then hunt in the day to avoid using visible light on the cameras. Please Jason stop acting so pompous toward Ghost Hunters, they had higher premiere numbers and overall higher ratings than your current show so don't judge too quickly and respect all in the field equally.
World's Biggest Ghost Hunt: Pennhurst Asylum (2019)
An Terrifying and Educational Adventure
I LOVED this show so much not only because it was terrifyingly real, but because we learned a new method to paranormal investigating. Being an investigator myself I am always looking for new ways to use my equipment and it seems as if no new techniques have come out in forever. I can never trust random devices like REM pods for this exact reason and now that we have a way to rule out that interference, literally all other instances where they have gone off are discounted to me in my opinion. FINALLY we have a group of people who not only know what the heck they are talking about but actually have education and professions to back them up (unlike some... cough cough.. plumber and contractors out there). I am so looking forward to learning more about the paranormal from the science side and this just makes me want to go out and try all these methods myself! Thanks A&E!
