Monsutâzu Ippaku Sanjô Hiryû Jigoku (2024)
Short and Sweet
This is a must watch for any One Piece fan, and even if you aren't, you will still enjoy it.
This is a short 25 minute special that gives us a glimpse into Zoro's (One Piece) ancestor, and Wano's legendary samurai, Ryuma. The story follows said samurai's quest to save a town from a fire breathing dragon.
The animation is phenomenal! The main fighting sequences were great but I wish they were a bit longer. It's obvious to me that the animation studio put a lot of time and effort into this short special.
Lastly, you can tell where Oda's inspiration for some of One Piece's characters came from. Zoro looks a lot like Ryuma, Nami looks somewhat like Flare, and Mihawk like Shirone.
Overall, this was great treat for a long time One Piece fan.
Yu yu hakusho (2023)
Enjoyable yet disappointing
As a standalone series, its actually pretty good. Unfortunately it is an adaptation of one of the most iconic Anime and one of personal favorites.
This adaptation has a darker feel to it and lacks a lot of the humor that the anime had. The former isn't a particular bad thing. Its more of a preference and in my opinion the darker tone works well with the live action.
Now, I knew changes were going to be made, including condensing the story to meet budget and time constraints. Sadly, the Dark Tournament was omitted entirely. Instead, the final fight with Toguro was merged with Yukina's rescue. It really is disappointing since the Dark Tournament is Yu Yu Hakusho's best arc. I was really hoping to see the fight between Chu and Yusuke. I think it would've been a better option to have Yukina's rescue as part of the Dark Tournament even if the latter wouldn't have been as grandiose as the Anime due to budget.
It doesn't seem like there will a second season, and if there happens to be one, I don't see how the Dark Tournament could be included.
Regardless of faults and disappointments, I still enjoyed the series.
