Ich bin dein Mensch (2021)
What if your perfect match is a robot ?
What do you do,as a hard to please woman, when the, perfeçt match comes along in the form of an attractive robot ? Sounds corny? Well in this case it isn't. Some valuable existential questions are being wrapped in a seamless, well flowing plot with just the perfect actors. It has a lot of layers and raises a lot of intelligent (no pun intended when A. I.is center stage) questions and the answers you'll come up with are at times scary. Cause this fiction isn't too far off reality. Congratulations, Maria Schroeder, this is a gem !
Waves (2019)
Strong start weakened by second half
I found the first part of the movie really captivating, intense, credible and very well acted. When the focus switches to the second teen in the families the whole plot becomes very mellow (still very well acted though but diminishing the overall impact).
Gisaengchung (2019)
Interesting mix of genres
It's hard to define the genre of this movie. It starts as a subtle and enjoyable comedy before veering into overdone goriness. Reminded me of Chinese cinema of the 70ies. The theme of the movie is quite interesting and seems to be preoccupying more Korean directors (cfr. Burning from Chang-dong Lee) : the abusive crossing of social class lines... Too bad for the ending. My rating would have been higher would that have been subtle too. Still the movie is good and enjoyable.
