Oy! (2009)
A "tragic"(for viewers) love story
Siddarth who has been playing lover boy roles movie after movie which is possibly because of the debacle of Aata(2007) in which he paid role with action side. To be honest he excels in his roles and his movies can be watched only for him. But Oy! is a story which is entirely based on a very weak storyline which is borrowed by Eric Segal's LoveStory as the director generously points out in a disclaimer at the start of the movie. Siddarth plays Uday a spoilt rich youngster who enjoys life to fullest and never worries about his responsibilities and future. So contrastingly is our female lead Sandhya(Shamili) who seems to be entirely opposite to hero. They meet each other in a pub n a new year party Our hero falls for her and in one year the characters change and the movie reaches climax :). What happens in this year is to be seen on screen, There has to be a strong screenplay and emotional quotient by director in these types of stories but the director falls short in both, Performances are good, The silly comedy track of Sunil,Ali and Bharath is not needed it is a torture more than a comedy though Sunil and Pradeep Rawat gives some lighter moments in second half. Music,Background score and Cinematography is top class and those are the only things good for in the movie. This is probably a movie for you if you are deeply in love and to all those singles(like me) out there just ignore it.
Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam (2009)
A feel good musical journey!!!!!
Movies like this are hard to come by in Telugu cinema, So every single movies like this could be called 'Trendsetters'. KIKK scores points by being non clichéd(When compared to other Telugu movies at least). Siddu(Siddarth) is a only child of broken parents who falls in love with Geetha(Tamanna) a traditional girl and has to reunite his parents to get the permission from Geetha's father Subrahmanyam(Nazeer) to marry her.
Siddarth plays another beautiful character and does so very well, Tamanna is unglamorous in her role and good. Prakash Raj and other supporting cast are also good in their roles. But truly the crew of the film are really scorers, Cinematography is excellent, Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is damn good and converts this movie into a musical. Screenplay and direction is also good, Dialogues are really humorous.
Ghajini (2008)
Ghajini=Indian Memento
Many are talking actually complaining that Ghajini is a bad copy of Memento but they have to understand that normal Indian guy can't understand Memento for nuts due to its 'reverse chronological' order screenplay and Ghajini is not completely based on it. What makes Ghajini actually click is the performances Aamir has given one of his best performance playing a revenge driven psychological patient is not so easy has some people have been writing him off. Asin is just natural and good in her role. Jiah Khan has little screen space when compared to her counterpart in Tamil version. Many junior artists have been imported from south and they are good. Screenplay is gripping and audiences would cheer for the hero when he bashes up goons in the most violent fashion. cinematography is excellent. Music by A R Rahman is as usual superb and he has given good background score too. Even if you have watched the Tamil/Telugu version watch this one for Aamir Khan,Changed(and Better) climax, and of course technical excellence of the movie.
Golmaal Returns (2008)
Well it does return!!!!!!!!
First things first don't go inside the hall expecting the first part in any aspect you would be disappointed. OK now i have made my statement now to the review.
The movie starts of with a typical meaningless song in the titles which every bollywood director puts if he is short of songs in the movie this type the song is not at all good and the entire crowd of extras does everything to torture you...then finally the movie starts then you would have to face a rather dull 30 minutes before starting off with the comedy train which is simply cool.As usual there is a little bit of suspense in this movie but it is not at all good and as easily predictable as the next ball of Brett Lee in Indian pitches. Then there are few scenes which makes u laugh out loud like Kareena's histrionics thinking ajay(her husband)is dead,Entire Tushaar Kapoor's mute show which makes u think he is career best when he is playing the character 'lucky'.Arshad Warsi is wasted in his role except for his little dance jig in the intermission cut which is hilarious. Background score is simply superb spoofing ekta kapoor's soaps.
Now to the downturns Music is rather very bad and the only songs which are good are from the first part. There could have been more script related comedy like the first part.Oaky if you want to enjoy your day choose this movie,If you are in mood for something more thought provoking choose Mr.Bhandarkars 'Fashion' instead.
Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008)
A fresh film that you could even smell it!!!!!!!!!!
A movie which displays the Love and Friendship in the way it is just hard to come by in bollywood and here Abaas Tyrewala comes up with a wonderful script and screenplay and the audience will have to just sit back and enjoy the magic getting unfolded on the screen. The movie has many One liners which hits the chord with the Young and Old of the audiences.A.R.Rahman with the music is simply flawless as usual.Imran Khan is sure to be the next lover boy in Bollywood he simple effortlessly gives the performance of his lifetime you think that He is born for this role,Genelia rocks and gives an mind blowing performance after Bommarillu.Editing could have been little bit good.
Coming to the story Jai and Aditi are very good friends and the journey in which they find love for each other is the movie. Its completely filled with numerous sub plots which doesn't live you with a dull moment. The entire proving of Jai as an true Rathor is fantastic.Cameos by Paresh Rawal,Sohail and Arbaaz Khan is just as ans icing on the cake.
Go watch it otherwise you will miss things in life........
Bujjigaadu: Made in Chennai (2008)
Clearly not bad as people tell!!!!!!!
Many people told that the movie is dumb to me and i honestly entered the theater thinking how bad can this movie be. But the movie surprised me in every aspect Cinematography is excellent,Acting by all the actors is up to the mark,Music is average but if you see the songs it will impress you much. Coming to the story Bujji(Prabhas) and Chitti(Trisha)are best of friends when they are children and due to some very silly problem Chitti tells Bujji not to meet her for 12 years then they get separated.Cut to present time Bujji is a small time goon in Chennai and the intro scene is excellent. Then when he decides to come back to Vizag in search of Chitti trouble starts and he is in the world of Mafia the rest is to be seen in the screen.Comedy by Sunil is relieving,Ali shows a bad show again in some Gay comedy scenes,Mohanbabu gives a terrific performance.Eventhouh the movie is just average and story nonexistent the movie is watchable for the one liners go watch it in your free time.
Parugu (2008)
Not even close to Bommarillu
Let me first give you an scenario A movie having the makers of success rate close to 100%,Director who has previously given masterpiece called 'Bommarillu',Actor who oozes out energy and is loving to all.You will obviously expect a firecracker of the film and even i had expected the same thing from this movie but i was severely disappointed.
Krishna(Allu Arjun) is a happy go lucky guy who just loafs around the city partying hard with his friends. Some 300 miles away in the house of some village head his girl runs away on her marriage with her lover.Somehow normally dumb heroines dad thinks like the kid who is about to crack IIT-JEE and prisons all the friends of the guy who robbed of his daughter. Then after few very much bad scenes our hero starts loving the village heads second daughter then rest of the film is about how he impresses her. Story is very much thin and above average screenplay supplements it bit.Direction is nothing to write home about.Less said the better about Music. Very bad movie if you keep expectations and go to watch.Just watch it has a timepass movie.
Kantri (2008)
Oh! Here comes slimmed sensation!!!!!
First things first, this movie is the usual Mass-Masala fare you see in telugu. But what is the difference is there any? Fortunately Yes!!!!! The movie is technically Brilliant and N.T.R has given his soul out for the movie which didn't need it.The screenplay is meager,Direction okayish. But the dialogues are so good that you would think again and again if it is Trivikram who has written this. But Director has at least made that thing well. Coming to plot Kranthi(N.T.R) is a Orphan with the heart of gold who works for P.R(Prakash Raj) and does more than petty things for him.As the story progresses its revealed that Kranthi is none other than son of P.R which reminds you of the movie Munna. Then Kranthi after many Scenes agrees P.R has his dad(Reasons best known to him)even though the ending twist justifies little bit of his thoughts not entirely though.Entire love track between N.T.R and Hansika is completely Nonsense and the luck thing of heroine is directly lifted from Hollywood flick 'Just My Luck'even though the ending twist is lifted from 'Bluffmaster.Tanisha is simply there for a song and few meaningless scenes.Music is excellent and even the Background score is good. If you watch the Movie in big screen its visually appealing But not at all a must watch.
