11.22.63: The Rabbit Hole (2016)
Great Adaptation of Stephen King Novel
Some Stephen King book adaptations don't always do well on-screen, but I was immediately pulled into this mini-series, and as someone who had also read the novel prior to watching, thought it was done very well. Stephen King has a knack for telling a really good story--the kind you can't put down--so when it is successfully put onto tv or movie screens, you wind up with something really special.
This first episode was engaging from the start. Great acting--it is a shame about James Franco; he is a great actor, handsome, charismatic. It's too bad his personal issues kind of ruined things for him. Chris Cooper is great as Al. And Josh Duhamel is excellent as the psychotic Frank Dunning.
There are 8 episodes in the series, with various writers and directors attached to each one, so I look forward to seeing if future episodes shine as brightly as this first one does.
Prisoners (2013)
Solidly Entertaining
This movie is the dark and gritty tale of a man who's daughter and friend are kidnapped, and the lengths he is willing to go to in order to find her. The plot and script were great. There are some slow scenes, but overall, this movie is action packed and will have you on the edge of your seat. There are many twists and turns that keep you guessing as to what is really going on. Gyllenhaal, who plays the intense Detective Loki, and Jackman, who plays the father, named Keller Dover, both had solid and believable performances, as well as the rest of the actors portraying the grieving families. And the ending was great! I love a good ending.
Disconnect (2012)
Pleasantly surprised!
This is a great movie. The acting is wonderful (Jason Bateman especially), as well as the dialogue and story-the last part of the movie had me on the edge of my seat. It is a unique movie, and very memorable. I'd definitely recommend it!
Beautiful Girls (1996)
Would have been a good movie, but...
The grown man flirting with a little girl was very disturbing. The movie just became creepy and inappropriate to me because of the relationship between the characters played by Natalie Portman and Timothy Hutton. I am surprised that this doesn't bother more people.
Destination Wedding (2018)
Give it a chance!
First, I will just warn that my review may contain mild spoilers, and second, I will venture a guess that many viewers will have the urge to stop this movie part-way through. But don't! Trust me.
Basically, there are only two people in this movie. Other cast members are pretty much just background, which means you will be listening only to the banter and cynical chatter between Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves for an hour and a half.
At first, that can be a turn off, and I felt myself feeling a little disappointed as I realized that this was the direction the film would be taking. But I gave it a chance, and was glad I did. I mean, come on, Keanu is amazing in pretty much any roll, and Winona is endearing and lovable, as she self deprecates and tries to literally breathe life back into house plants.
I laughed a lot during this movie, and the end left me with a satisfied smile on my face, making me glad I had finished it.
