Another letdown of a classic 80s movie
5 March 2021
Please stop creating sequals to 80s movies and making them woke... This had potential but its got the same deathknell that bill and ted had.

How is this different from Into the Wild?
1 March 2021
I dont get it. How is this different from Into the Wild and all of the 60's and 70's films about road exploration?

The movie that made me want to play basketball
28 February 2021
I saw this movie in the theater when I was 5? Needless to say I bugged my mom to put up a hoop above our garage the next day... The next 25 years... I played the game that Ive grown to love. This movie started that love affair oh so long ago. (That and Michael Jordan was everything to a kid who grew up in the 90s at the time).

Not one likeable character
27 February 2021
I decided to give this show a chance... Ive now come to the conclusion that Netflix is now like say time soap operas for angsty millennial and teenybopper women much like the lifetime and O network was when cable tv was a thing. If this show is a reflection of our future, Id hate to see how our society is in 20 years.

Star Wars = The Matrix Franchise
20 February 2021
When the hype surrounding Matrix was out... It was almost too high. The problem was we knew nothing of the Wachowskis and they have only realistically made 2-3 films. The series bombed and the middle and end storylines made absolutely no sense and had no point on getting on the screen. Millions were spent that could have went to better films. I feel that way with Star Wars. It has become more about consuming then the actual product and Im sure Disney execs will tell you that. They knew the product theyd get and sadly theyll milk it until the milk is dry. I dont expect any of the material they put out with this franchise to be any good. I knew it when it was sold to Disney. Maybe at some point... Disney will realize all the material they have needs to appeal to people and not just for consumption purposes. Otherwise great films will be something of the past. Star Wars sadly has become the face of what happened with the Matrix.

Made for 3D
14 February 2021
I really have a hard time with reviewers only seeing 2D versions of 3D movies. This is def. a 3D made movie so my recommendation is to only see it in that format. Like Gravity and Avatar... 3D movies get slammed when converted to 2D because the gimmick doesnt hold in 2D.

Very good. Lakeith Stansfeld is excellent
13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ive been looking forward to this film for quite a long time. Having met Freds mom and his brother Bill before he passed... I was direly anticipating this release... The only gripe I have is the ending shooting which was of course dramatized... Otherwise this movie is excellent... Lakeith Stansfeld deserves an award for his role. An insiders view of an informant who begins to care at the end.

Ah keyboard warriors trying to explain this film as supposed critics
30 January 2021
I dont trust IMDB reviewers or reviewers on the internet. Ok... I got that out of the way. I have had a hard time the last 2 decades when the internet really started taking strides into mainstream conscience and started dominating film criticism. When I see movies like Harry Potter or Wonder Woman getting rave reviews... It makes me wonder why. Then Ive read the idea that online film criticism makes its money through advertisements. Even the NYT, which in itself was one of the most respected film criticism pieces has fallen subject to the online advertisement debacle. Paul Schrader (who wrote Taxi Driver) is not from this era. He does not have to pander to get films made by saying he will do exactly as what the advertisers want. These days thats social commentary and social justice because hey! It sells! If you dont believe me... Look how much trump made during his presidency for social media and major media publications. He has single handedly destroyed any credibility those organizations have left by turning all the publications into national enquirers... With all this being said... Schraders film is political yes... But he looks at the transcendental issues going on in the world today. You dont have to take this as some political social justice alagory. It is a film about the spiritual realm and the existence of one during a major crisis. How it can impact the mental state of a very spiritual person. This is why it is hard to read some of these reviews... Because half of these people on here are young and impressionable and have been reading terrible reviewers who need to make an advertising buck.... And the NYT has a political agenda to change film based on the social commentary thats driving newer films forward... Sadly with this... Every film is going to be based on whether youre a democrat or a republican based on the content provided in the film... This is why you shouldnt read too many online film criticisms. Id find one with the plot and thats about it. Rotten tomatoes and IMDB and the rest of online film criticism has killed the artistic form of film forever.

I really wanted to like this but then I saw Ava Duvernays name in the credits
26 January 2021
I loved 99 homes... Such a good movie about class... This movie was so good and then the end was about race? why make the entire movie about race? why not just focus directly on the caste system like foretold instead of saying white peoples days are numbered... Then I saw Ava Duverynay was exec. producer... Then I realized why it became directly about race. And lastly I decided to give this a 3 stars because being poor or rich is not about race. Just look at the fiasco the democratic party has become. Dems and their tie ins to large tech and wallstreet despite being "inclusive" towards people of color... Yah right.

Excellent... Nice to see practical effects again
22 January 2021
Love the Astron 6 guys... Mimi was a bit annoying after a while but it was central to her character... We really need more practical effects guys and less CGI.

Not a fan of the reedit.
16 January 2021
I can see that there a lot of holes in the production... But the new blu ray adds modern footage and cgi blood... It just took me out of the film and looks like a bad Ed Wood or George Lucas remake... Also they sped up the edits... Why?! Not to mention the soundtrack they chose... Why they allowed this company to do the restoration of this movie is beyond me. John Rhys Davies is the only bright spot through the whole movie.

7.8 rating when Ive seen wayyyy better films
10 January 2021
To be honest this is a very avg movie with a very important story... That doesnt mean its a great movie. Ive seen movies that have a 6.0 or 6.5 rating on imdb that are far superior and more craftly made... This is my problem with IMDB ratings. Theyre mostly reviewed by young people without a clue on what makes a good movie (e.g. camera work, acting, music, pacing, and yes a story that has some sense of philosophy behind it). This would be a better documentary to be honest.

I turned it off halfway trough...
30 December 2020
Ok so George Floyd was horrible... and Ive never liked cops... But the way this was designed in the second half... I felt it was a tad bit racist. I get that there has been a little leeway in terms of certain things... But has there really? Or are we more concerned with our own race and how its portrayed in society? The black mirror folks dropped the ball with this one... Sadly with identity politics at an all time high I dont see this ending anytime soon... Even with Trump out of office... And all it does is segregate society even more. Now do we need that?

Nolan is getting better with age.
27 December 2020
Outside of the length and the over action... I liked this a lot more than Inception and his overrated trash interstellar... Very fast paced and dialogue but awesome structure... Dunkirk is Nolan's best and second will either be this or the prestige... He should do a giallo or film noir next... He would give movies like Chinatown a run for their money.

Not enough music
4 December 2020
Ok... The movie as a whole if youre exploring the world of becoming deaf... amazing. As a music lover though this was a disappointment. After the first twenty minutes it turns into this search for being. I gave this six stars as a result and I love that Derek Cianfrance who did my favorite movie of the last ten years Place Beyond the Pines helped produce this.

Really dont like this movie
27 November 2020
Honestly Hollywood has sunk to a new low with this movie... Depicting Yale and success as the best thing in this movie was a horrid message. This is why America continues to suffer and Americans are brainwashed... Because instead of attacking the insitutions that make Americans want to be rich... They continually attack poor people and show the luxuries of being rich (like they dont have problems)... This is honestly why families like these continually suffer and why they get called names... Tired of Yuppie programming esp. coming from Hollywood asshats who have more problems than regular people. When was the last time we actually saw a movie depicting regular people who are happy in these situations? and not poor people being continually put down as broken people.

worthy effort...
21 November 2020
Not bad but based on a lie... Mank did not write citizen kane but only portions of it... Welles wrote most of the screenplay and then a movie critic said he didnt... Cant stand famous filmmakers names being dragged in the mud for fake reality... Sort of like errol flynn and his supposed ties to nazi germany.

A movie for moody millennials
20 November 2020
Basically these kids are emo... nothing else sums it up. They also are narcassistic and moody like the millennial generation. IMDB is full of millennial reviewers so yes this gets an 8.0... We need new critics who understand film criticism.

Why nuclear energy needs to be ignored for saving the planet
19 November 2020
Bill Gates needs to rewatch this movie and rethink nuclear energy as a solvent for the climate change crisis... Still prevalent for this time period as much as the china syndrome was it its own.

Wow... So bad... Please stop remaking 80s movies
16 November 2020
The writing for all of these remakes from 80s movies is so bad... I liked about 10 minutes of this movie but the daughters storyline... totally not needed... AT ALL. I really begin to wonder that even if they were boys... It would have made any difference... It is just bad.

The only comic book movie I like
31 October 2020
Not a fan of comic book movies at all... Anyone wearing a cape has super hero abilities = no thanks... This however is so bad that it is good. Also love the fact that both cage and peter fonda are in this movie.

Takes too many liberties
22 October 2020
I studied the Chicago 10 (8) and now 7 in college because I was obsessed with Abbie Hoffman for many years. While Richard Linklaters animated film is vastly superior because it uses the actual court transcripts and doesnt dramatize it... I never liked Sorkins writing either because the dialogue is way too unrealistic and biting. It seems like he doesnt know how to write rubin and hoffman either (and put more focus on Hayden (even though Hayden is not a good dude)) Also the focus on the lawyer was not really needed... The whole trial was based on the defendents and not him... Too many liberties for one of the most important trials after the 1950s. And honestly after social network... I kind of gave up on Sorkin. How can anyone react that fast? It's too literal.
