A Man in Full (2024)
Idiotic Hollywood Tripe
Good lord, where to begin. Clearly this is another show written and conceived in California by people who have likely never set foot in Atlanta. Jeff Daniels likes to go on social media and lecture people on how they should vote, then he gives us his best Foghorn Leghorn impersonation in this confusing turd of a show. I'm a northerner, but have lived in Atlanta for 8 years. Nobody talks like this. Not remotely. We have big banks here. When they loan money, they don't pick fights with their biggest customers...especially if they are in financial distress. The cinematography is ok, acting poor, script poor, soundtrack poor. I made it through 2 episodes before assessing this to be a waste of my time.
Succession (2018)
Am I the only one?
Am I the only one who thinks this is a sophomoric show, badly written and acted? Every...and I mean every, episode has the same plot. The handful of characters sit around and scheme as to who takes control of the company. The kids are clearly too inept and immature to run a Chick Fil A, let alone a billion dollar organization. Each character is more unlikeable than the other...there is literally no one to root for. Tom and Greg occasionally provide some comic relief which is why I give it 4 stars. Also, Logan Roy is a great character and well acted. These characters remind me of the Clintons or Biden with their spoiled children.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Poor man's GOT
Don't expect Game of Thrones. If GOT were a Lexus, this is a Camry. It's essentially medieval Succession with the ugliest cast ever assembled. Seriously, the Targaryen are portrayed as a beautiful race. Paddy Considine looks like a Homer Simpson version of King Viserys. Matt Smith? Come on, I don't even need to say anything about Matt Smith. The faces on these guys are downright distracting. And just wait until you get to Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond. CGI could not make these characters more unappealing. And I haven't even mentioned Milly Alcock or Emma D'Arcy, both of whom are solid 4's out of 10.
Beyond the distracting homeliness factor, the show itself is a drag. Yeah we get it, everyone wants to claim the seat of power. A few side plots wold be helpful. Whenever the plot drags, they throw in a dragon scene. Wow, how innovative. Most people are mindless dopes and will watch and like the show regardless I assume.
Dark Winds (2022)
10 stars for series, 1 star for finale
Very nicely developed and shot series. The finale is bewildering and suffers from the dreaded "worst cops alive" syndrome. Very lazy to make the police inept and dumb for one episode only. Hint: If someone shoots at you, you can shoot back. If someone shoots you once, don't trust them 10 minutes later. If a partner is in danger, don't stand around for 15 minutes and discuss your relationship.
The College Tour (2020)
Diversity Equity & Inclusion
How many times can this be uttered per episode? I counted 6 in under 5 minutes while watching my school. Woke bs garbage. Stay away if you are looking for an unbiased portrayal of various colleges.
The Split (2018)
Miserable detestable people
A cringey soap opera featuring the most banal, self-centered, self-destructive people imaginable. The smarmy grinning "Christy" should be beaten with a club. He and Hannah are perfect for each other and upon death will join Satan in the pits of hell. Dreadful time waster of a show. Don't get sucked into the vortex.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
Cliched and predictable
Toxic masculinity strikes again! This is a long drawn out episode of Law and Order SVU. My review needs 150 characters so I'll write a bit more. Still not 150 characters I guess? Geez they really need to let people write pithy reviews. Good grief, still not 150?
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Absurd garbage for imbeciles
The most mediocre superhero crap that could be contrived in an effort to fleece small brained dummies. Literally unwatchable retread plot lines. Felt like it was thrown together overnight.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: A Dark Quiet Death (2020)
Major league effort
As nearly every review has already covered, I'm assuming someone has already locked up Katie McElhenney to a contract. To pack that much character development into ~ 30 minutes along with fluid storytelling...not something we are used to consuming. Well done from start to finish.
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021)
Law & Order Woke
Nice to see Stabler back and in form...fighting the biggest threat known to man, racism. You'll be happy to hear that the organized crime unit is very focused on equity. They may not be the best cops, but they are the most diverse for sure, which is what's really important. Although I did not see any trans characters as of yet, which leads me to believe there is some serious trans discrimination going on at NBC.
7500 (2019)
What happens when a plane full of pansies gets hijacked?
Pure limp wristed drivel. Watching Levitt apologize to the foreign terrorists while they slit the passengers throats is emblematic of our soft society. Roll the plane! Kill the terrorist in the cabin vs letting him open the door! Cringeworthy performances and script.
Six Feet Under (2001)
A Show about nothing
So fitting that this is a show about death, that whenever my wife turns it on I want to slit my wrists. It's a dreadful show about nothing. Just a soap opera centered around unlikeable people with no positive attributes. The worst part is that there are may seasons, so I'll have to deal with my wife binging this snooze fest for quite some time before I can rid this virus from my life forever. The men are uniformly weak, whiny, and helpless while the women are overbearing and psychotic. Truly an awful show...I can't understand how someone could like it frankly. I hear the homely mother's voice in my nightmares. She speaks like a child but looks like she walked on the set from Little House on the Prairie. Since the loss of her husband, she defines herself by latching on to whatever loser man can stand the sight (and sound) of her for more than 12 seconds.
I will say that I was extremely pleased with the death of the brother Nathan. He is the whiniest, saddest, beta male ever to walk the earth. Only in California can these people exist. Worst show I think I have ever seen, with the possible exception of "Lost".
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Unwatchable
Made it through 45 min before hitting the eject button. Please let's stop pretending that Kristen Wiig is hot. She's a solid 4 out of 10 on her best day. Weak script, overlong, boring.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Expecting Avengers?
The brainless superhero crowd will undoubtedly be disappointed in this Clooney Sci-fi. Today's audiences are looking for nonstop CGI battles where you can be punched in the face 100 times but seemingly never get hurt. These movies are lazy and remedial but perfectly emblematic of our society.
Midnight Sky is not perfect. I would have liked more background on the mission, technology, how long it takes to reach Jupiter, etc. the catastrophe on earth is purposely vague. True Sci Fi is always about thinking big. What is our role here? Did Clooney waste his life by devoting all his time to work? What is in store for Iris and her family on Jupiter's moon? If you find yourself thinking about some of these questions after you've finished, then the mission of the film has been accomplished.
Plan Coeur: The Lockdown Plan (2020)
Cringeworthy delight!
Everyone can appreciate a well-written, well-acted, nicely-shot piece of entertainment. Conversely, nobody likes poorly-written work, especially in today's age of entertainment on demand. However! When something jumps the shark to so bad, so nails-on-chalkboard horrible, it becomes enjoyable again. It's like eating a spicy pepper or sucking on a lemon, it's not exactly pleasurable, but you do it anyway because it provides some level of enjoyment.
Enter "the Lockdown Plan". Every stereotype about annoying young people gets amplified by a factor of 100. Each of the girls are more detestable than the other. The star of the show becomes obsessed with global warming, not showering, and bakes cakes for the caregivers. Secretly everyone was hoping to see her choke on a cake. Search your feelings, you know it to be true. In another scene, she throws her menstrual blood on her boyfriend's face in the name of again, global warming. And we are supposed to believe he stays with her, lol.
The married friend live streams her utterly ordinary life via Instagram, in some sad desperation for low-level celebrity. All while her caregiver husband works to put food on the plate. Another friend is so frightened of COVID that she seals her apartment in plastic and refuses to open the door for her brother. Yet miraculously, several scenes later, decides to offer her services by driving caregivers to and from work in her enclosed petri dish mini cooper.
This is on the same level as "Eat Pray Love" in terms of sheer vapid, narcissistic, drivel. As someone who works with, and mentors many young adults, it's rare to find ones who live up to these repugnant stereotypes. They are by large, good pragmatic people and polar opposites of the dimwitted twits depicted in this dumpster fire (which I thoroughly enjoyed).
