Weapons of Mass Distraction (1997)
Another one of those movies I just "happened" on late one night ...
Insomnia was acting up late one night and I started channel surfing and happened on this flick on Cinemax ... there was only about thirty minutes left of the movie but even at that point it SUCKED me right in.
It's a great flick to watch on a Sunday afternoon - watch it closely. Gabriel Byrne and Ben Kingsley are excellent. I think this was the first movie I saw Jason Lee appear in.
The multiple stories coinciding into one single story of rich scumbags tearing into other's lives for their own gain.
Illeana Douglas's character (and her husband) ... their story ... the secret histories of the rich scumbags ... a lot going on in this movie ...
HIGHLY recommend it.
Deadwood (2004)
Wow ... just wow
I don't know - nor do I care about it's 'historical accuracy' - it's not a documentary, as far as the language - don't ****ing care about that either , it's meant to be E N T E R T A I N M E N T. And this series truly is pure entertainment. I really didn't know if I would enjoy it after watching the first episode, but it has grown - exponentially.
Ian McShane is excellent as Al Swearengen. He has sculpted his character into something amazing that I tune into just to see what deed he's gonna pull next.
The writing, acting, and the production are some of the best I've ever seen in a 'series'.
And I really hate to say it, but I've found myself anticipating the next episode of Deadwood more than any of the other HBO Sunday night 'standards'.
Fire Birds (1990)
Merely a contractual obligation?
I am usually a BIG fan of Nicholas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones but ... who can I sue to get those 86 minutes of my life back?
Poor writing, lousy production, amateur effects and just plain TERRIBLE acting.
Mr. Cage, hopefully, was just fulfilling a contractual obligation, because he was surely NOT into this role.
I can't even recommend this flick to friends who particularly like to watch bad movies.
Please don't waste your time!!!!!
Almost Famous (2000)
I have to watch it each time it's on cable...
This movie grabbed me as soon as I started watching. I think I knew each character in the movie (figuratively that is). It's a great time machine ride back to the early-middle 70's. It's very well written, acted, directed and produced. And the soundtrack is amazing. Some of the best music of that era. I was of the same age as the character William Miller (way back) in 1973/74, and this flick feels so real.
And Kate Hudson, wow, she is truly intoxicating as her role of the 'Band-Aid', Penny Lane. Sweet and strong. If I were William Miller, I would have fallen for her too!
I highly recommend this movie.
