The Three Musketeers (1993)
Pityfull!
I watch this "version" of the Three Musketeers, only last month, because I was rather reluctant to see one more of it: 1 - Because a movie from a French book, made in the US, requires utmost caution. 2 - Because I read the book at least 10 times between the age of 12 and the age of 50, each time with a renewed and even increased pleasure. I was right, I should have skip it. Sure we can read "it is not a true adaptation of the book, it is for fun, etc,...", but!!! The book is entertaining, fun, rich in humor, adventures, action, sweet moments!!!. Why should anybody re-write a perfect scenario, to make a grotesque story, with story, with ridiculous characters, who, thanks God, for the sake of France, were so opposite in the real History. I take only one example of what I say: a physical fight between the King of France, and Richelieu, on a small boat, ending in the fall of Richelieu in the water. I do not at all object on making funny movies about historical personages, showing them ridiculous, etc,.. but this movie refers to a book with a perfect story. OK give it another title; respect the author!!
Strangers with Candy (2005)
Very bad
Sorry for many comments I read; for me, this movie is the worst of everything: Lousy scenario and Direction Bad picture Ugly acting Senseless dialogs, etc, etc, etc. The main character is overdoing her acting, to the point of suggesting pity. Every 5 minutes we feel as if the author did not know what to write' Every minute we feel that the director was sleeping or absent from the set. The cameraman had difficulties in focusing on something worth to show. Should not those kinds of productions be forbidden in the profession, when we thing of the number of valuable movies which fail to be distributed?
To avoid by all means, or watch it after taking 3 Valium to be sure to miss it
Love & Suicide (2006)
i admire the movie...
it's very realistic, i was able to relate with it...though ,there is a little bit a need of enhancement with their acting career for both actresses who played as the mothers of these two girls... but it is understandable why them, since it's a low-budget film.it's quite obvious in their scenes, they seem hesitant and a bit rusty in their lines ............they always look like waiting for the punch -in lines...but I do praise the acting of these two main characters most especially Emily, she played well.
In general, i applauded the movie.......the simplicity of it's style but hard hitting message. For those anti-homosexuals, they might condemn the movie.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Comments on the movie as a movie
I will not comment on the subject developed by the book, then the movie, and which was supposed "to shake the foundations of Christianity". I will just say that I like very much the book, quite convincing, but I find the movie not as credible and the people who recommended its interdiction or boycott, should not fear the consequences of this film. I would prefer to comment on the cinematographic aspect:
- The picture is very disappointing: in spite of a few good settings, it is generally dark, messy with ill-chosen close-ups, lack of general view describing the action, etc,...
- The direction probably constricted by the will to respect strictly the book, and to avoid further critics on the subject, is rather dull, sometimes awkward, never even slightly close to any nomination for any award.
- Tom Hanks, an excellent actor, in every movie, looks stiff, distant, unconcerned. Audrey Tautou brings some life, an Paul Bettany and Jean Reno are very good, but the excellency goes to Sir Ian MacKellen definitely. All in all it remains still a movie to be seen, at least to imagine how much better it could have been.
When will be the movie from Angels and Demons?
Life or Something Like It (2002)
Not that bad
I like that movie: for the story, not so original but always working, for the hair of Angelina Jolie (she should stay that way), for the photography, and the way it is framed. However, in line with some comments, it's the type ofmovie where American producers and directors are not at ease, or notskilled to make (sorry for them). It would have been at the top, made by a Claude Lellouch, Bertrand Tavernier, Patrice Leconte, or even Begnino Begnini (as a real comedy) Angelina is credible as an egocentric ambitious but hollow young lady. Her boyfriend, Cal, is up to the task. Pete could have been more convincing, but I give a high grade to the "prophet". I retain the quotation "live every day as if it is your last day, because one day it will be" - Who said that? It remains a pleasant, but at times, dull movie.
