Beautiful Creatures (2013)
Long and Boring
Yet another case of when a film fails to adopt a novel. When it has to over explain everything rather than showing it, or shows it then explains what has already shown. A movie should be able to stand on its own despite being based off of a novel or another medium. Some books are just not meant to be condensed into just one film.
Amusement (2008)
Awful
This movie has no ounce of logic, the story is cheesy, and the killer is trying to hard to be the next horror icon but ends up being cringey.
Swiped (2018)
Sexist to Both Men and Women
Does not even deserve a 1 star. Trash film. Don't torture yourself with this.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
A great Mexican Folklore. An Atrocious Hollywood Adaptationdaptation
For the record, I'm not against Hollywood horror movies based on foreign origins...but having it be made under the umbrella of the Conjuring Universe is a great disservice. Jumpscares that neither make you jump or scare you, characters experiencing the paranormal presence of la cucaracha but never talk about it (i hated the idiot daughter the most), missed opportunies like having the dead father come and save them in the end that could have made the story better, the list goes on and on.
There ARE great Hollywood horror films. But this is not one of them.
13 Graves (2019)
Good premise. Bad execution
Frank and Terry are off to send spineless Billy to the mob graveyard to dig his own grave after a failed assassination on his own mob boss mother. They get distracted, however, as a vagrant shows up telling them that he knows what's been going on in his woods and that they have a choice to either kill Billy or let him go. They shoot him instantly. Using the distraction, Billy flees and they give chase to finish the job and a bunch of supernatural stuff happens.
This film actually is pretty decent. The forest gives great atmosphere, the twist is good but one gripe i have was that all characters were unlikable. You're suppose to want to root for someone, especially, in a horror film, but you just want them all to die. Terry (bald dude) was my least character.
Also, somethings don't make sense or just have no common sense. In one scene when they were chasing Billy, he stays still by the tree not even hiding after seeing Terry. Stupid Terry is there within his periphery and he still doesn't see him? It takes a few seconds before he notices him and what does Terry do? He gives him a head start. Then when he's faraway enough that's when he tries to shoot Billy. Like whaaat? He then cusses in frustration after getting stuck in the mud. Dude, that was your fault for taking too long. Another scene is when they get back to the house after Frank gets his ankle injured so he urges Terry to get the car before it gets too dark. He lights up the candles that were at the table for him before leaving. That's right. All candles. Why not just leave the lighter for him and so he could light one candle at a time? You don't know how long he'd be stuck there. To add to the stupidity, Frank realizes he has the car keys with him all along so his partner has no way to start it. Well, these are just some of my frustrations on logic (or lack there of) for this film.
