Unidentified (2006)
This movie was a surprise
This movie is loosely marketed as a possible indie sci-fi film about UFO's. The website did not mention that this film is basically a recruiting movie for Christianity. I could not find out much information about this film before seeing it in the theater. The cast is a collection of lesser-known/unknown actors. The official website for this film has a mysterious theme to it, but little hard information is available. This film will appeal to Christians, more than sci-fi fans. The movie focuses on it's main characters, and their own inner struggles to accept the faith and belief in Christianity, as an explanation for the strange events that are happening around them. These events seem to be "classic UFO encounters" on the surface, but the writers of this film choose to take the storyline in a different direction. The "UFO encounters" turn out to be possible "direct contacts" from demonic spirits who tell the "victims" there will be a great "cleansing" coming. One of the main characters of the story is a Christian who tries to convince the victims, and some of his coworkers, that they need to accept Christ as their Savior. The story idea is intriguing, and I happen to be a Christian who is also a sci-fi fan, but this movie is a low-budget attempt at scaring unwitting moviegoers into rethinking their own beliefs. The acting falls flat on it's face, and the movie is mostly dialog with plenty of references to all-too-familiar rhetoric. This movie should be openly marketed as a Christian film. I don't appreciate the deceptive tactics of trying to package this film as a "sci-fi / UFO" movie. It has more in common with the "Left Behind" series. With that said, I do think it is always a great idea to get the WORD of God out there to the people any way you can. The world is a scary, evil place, and we all need to have a personal relationship with Christ. I rated this movie a 6, because it is basically a crummy movie with an important "message". The "message" is the redeeming factor for this movie, otherwise, it would get a 2.
