Rhythm on the Range (1936)
Fun and Decent Entertainment
This is one of my absolute favorites of Bing Crosby movies. It not only has an amusing and romantic story line, it features some great songs, like "I'm an Old Cowhand", which went on to be a huge hit. The movie also introduces a very young Roy Rogers (with a spot in the song segment of "I'm an Old Cowhand"), as well as Martha Raye and Bill Burns.
By today's standards, it may be considered outdated or corny. But for those who like decent movies with no violence, language, sexual or suggestive content, it is a great movie and I know they will enjoy it.
The Rookie (2002)
Big League
I thought that "The Rookie" was a great movie, proof that Hollywood and Disney actually CAN make decent, yet interesting, movies without a bunch of foul language and implicit scenes.
Dennis Quaid was convincing as an aging, yet talented pitcher, who upon a bet with his baseball team (the Owls), tries to get into professional playing. He finds that his fast ball is around 98 mph, faster than when he was younger.
I think that this movie leaves one with the thought that age does not have to dictate the ending of young hopes and dreams. That is a good thing. I rate this movie with an "A".
